Sports Talk / Re: NCAA College Basketball Talk
October 20, 2017, 03:34:56 PM
I'm sorry, I can't help myself.  You guys are upset at Marshall yet Valpo fan after Valpo fan have ripped the Horizon league after leaving. Very Interesting. And the comments about Oakland and the post season, yes we were 0=2 as a 1 seed and a 2 seed. If I remember Valpo was 0-2 as a 1 seed and a 2 seed the last two years. In fact if you really look at it, Valpo won 5 out of 6 championships and only went to the NCAA tourney twice. How do any of you feel good about tearing into Oakland when u have the exact same record. Plus, your two NCAA trips you won the tournament at home. Didn't you lose to a ten seed.  Now, really, I'm not ripping you, I'm asking how you can make those statements when your team did no better.  Does it make you feel better to say that stuff.

And there you prove my point , I compared it to academic  fraud, but no one wants to talk about that. Right.  (Take the path of the kid who drank, but we won't discipline him until we play a non d-1 because that will teach him good Christian values.)And it was far reaching too. People here know more about it then your own fans. The kid at Clemson will miss games next year because of it. You got lucky because the "others"involved  had graduated.  But I'm sure you think the NCAA has something against Valpo. Yea, they do, you won a championship with a group of guys that cheated in a class. It's ok though. The teams in this league are jealous of you. Ok. You will Answer this by trying to tear down Oakland. That will make you feel good about your little world. Like that matters. Also your right, I don't rep the other Oakland fans. Nothing about this is about Oakland to me.
#3
I was wrong.  More like forth graders.  Your answer is to rip Oakland.  So clever.  This has nothing to do with Oakland and everything to do with u guys leaving our league and we can't exist without you.  Just pointing out the facts. But you guys are good at avoiding them.  And don't give me its "our message board".  You were good not great.
#4
Well stated.  Sounds like HL schools are just jealous of the way Valpo has dominated since joining the league.

The bad and good of the HL replacing Valpo with IUPUI:

Bad = The HL will surely become a perennial 1-bid league that will be 15+ in the RPI and rarely, if ever, win a game in the NCAA tourney.

Good = The HL will be more balanced, with the remaining teams now having a chance to win the league and actually make an NCAA tourney appearance on occasion.

You guys really are a bunch of 6th graders. The league is soooooooo jealous of you. But lets not let the facts get in the way of making yourself feel so good about you.

THE BAD
Fact:  Since 1998 the only team in the Horizon League to get an at Large Bid is Butler. UMMMM that's 20 years
Fact:  Since Valpo joined the Horizon league the number of at large bids Valpo has received  0
Fact:  The number of at large bids for Valpo all time    0
Fact: The average seed in NCAA tournament since Valpo joined the Horizon for any team not named Butler  (14.1)
Fact   In Valpo's 2 NCAA trips they were a 13 and a 14 seed
Fact   Amount of games Valpo won in NCAA tournament while in Horizon league   0

The Good ( with the remaining teams now having a chance to win the league and actually make an NCAA tourney appearance on occasion. )

Fact. Valpo in it's 11 years in Horizon went to 2 NCAA's. That means you went to NCAA'S 18% of the time

Did I mention Valpo never won an NCAA game   oh I did

So you say we are jealous and the league will rarely, if ever win an NCAA game because you left when You never won any???????
Everyone else has a chance now that your taking your 18% winning rate to a new league. That makes sense.

Truth is, no one gives a care your leaving, yes, mad about the team replacing you because you were a very good program.  But what did you really do to help the league. Your BEST team ever, a team that could have won NCAA games didn't even make it to the NCAA. You were a pretty date but in the end that's all you were.

And now a new coach, you lost a pro, and the team with out him scored 42 points in the tournament. I think your future is more in doubt then the status of the Horizon league.

It will be interesting to read this board 5 years from now. You might want to go over to the Oral Roberts board. Is that your future. They left a league they were winning and you remember how obnoxious they were back in the day. Might be you. Good luck.

And don't rip Oakland on this. This has nothing to do with Oakland. Our first 4 years in the Horizon we are 45-23 with a championship an a NIT win. Your first four years in the Horizon you were 50% with a CIT bid. And guess what, your leaving just made it easier on us.

Valpo Basketball / Re: Transfers

Maybe we want him to help us learn how to commit academic fraud or possibly he can teach Kampe how to have a player arrested spend a night in jail and not have to miss any games.

Valpo Basketball / Re: 2017-18 VU Schedule
May 28, 2017, 09:01:18 AM
Hey 64 is the real reason you don't want to play us is that we've beat you 9 of the last 14 we've played, ( a sweep this year would have made it 11/16)  or that Lexus Williams will be our starting point guard next year.
Good luck in your new world. I'm setting the over under at 24 months on a long thread on here as to why Valpo needs a new league because the Valley sucks and its holding you down.  10 bucks.  Any takers

Valpo Basketball / Re: Just a question
February 27, 2017, 07:39:47 PM
If I came on here to rub it in it I would have been direct. I asked a simple question. That's all. We have always gone to a neautral site, Tulsa-south Dakota- where we couldn't even get 400 fans so I know what your talking about, it's why I asked the question.  We could debate what players did and didn't do all we want but none of us really know if anyone cheated, assulted or what ever. I will answer the one question though, two years ago the best swimmer on our nationally ranked team, a Australian kid who would swim in olympics for them turned in a paper someone else wrote. He was dismissed from school for a semester which meant he couldn't swim in the NCAA's. he transferred and is now swimming for someone else. They are kids, they do wrong things for what ever reason, pressure, lazy, entitled, isn't it the schools job to educate them and help them learn to overcome their mistakes. Our school has great success stories, your school has great success stories. It's why we are fans.

Valpo Basketball / Re: Just a question

It was just an honest question cheesehead but your response was predictable. Yea, we would probably take Allen, in fact I heard Kampe has ask the NCAA if your academic cheater could get another year because we want him, and after T. Walker got thrown out of our game for kicking one of our players in the no-no I heard Kampe went to your locker room and told him to transfer to Oakland because he would fit in, and then when your Freshman center got arrested he called to find out if he was interested in Oakland because he could take the same substance abuse classes that Kampe had Stevie Clark take.

As to M, yea your right. I would have no trouble playing this in Chicago, but if it was decided this summer, in a year we think we are going to be very good, I'm sure our fan base would be upset.

Valpo Basketball / Just a question
February 27, 2017, 03:20:15 AM
Do you believe you have a better chance to win the HLT at Joe Lewis Arena or the Orena. So you would have had to come to the Detroit area this year anyway.  Would you rather have it at the Joe or in the O. Oakland has everyone back but one and has a NBA level player joining the team next year, so it is very possible they will be number 1 seed next year too. If that is the case and I say "if". Then 2 of the first 3 years of this contract you would be saved of having to come to the Orena.  Just wondering your thoughts now that your not the number 1 seed

You mean like your guy who got arrested on the night before a game for MIP and yet he's still playing. Yea. I get what your saying.
#11
You guys make it so hard to keep ones mouth shut. Criminal, Clark got busted for weed.  Twice. Funny it's legal in 1/3 of the country but he's a criminal. Yet your guy Cheats. Academic Fraud.  But that's OK.  Let him play right. Because no one on your team has ever smoked weed.  Word going around is NCAA is involved.  No one on Oaklands board has tried to embarrass your kid, no ones called him out. But you live that private school Christian life. I guess it makes you feel better, or makes Valpo look better even though he kick your butt,  to call Stevie, a kid you have never meant, a criminal.  What are you gong to say when your  school has to vacate wins, or even worse, vacate a championship.. that's ok, have at it, it's a message board, you can hide in anonymity

Oakland is also 8-1 on the road

Can't be a money loser for the Horizon League. Olympia is paying the league 200,000k, each year. 1 million over 5 years. The tournament lost money last year at Valpo. Maybe this is just about money. Olympia is the one who will lose money, not the league.
#15
Opened at Valpo -1. Already up to 2.5.  All the money going on valpo
#16
Valpo can't recruit a kid from Detroit and say....You get to come home for the HL tourney every year.  Oakland starts 4 kids from Detroit now and everyone of those kids was there before the announcement.  :-[
#17
And why do I have to be an idiot.  Kampes recruited for 40 years, he starts 4 kids from Detroit and the tourney has never been in Detroit. You think Palenbizo came to Oakland over Valpo because of the tourney?

Sorry, ok I'm an old guy and not good at this link stuff, but the point is some guy comes on here with an agenda and says crap that isn't true and people pile on.

On The Horizon / To HC
December 28, 2015, 11:45:41 AM
At the Michigan State game I was sitting with a group of MSU fans who asked why Kampe leaves the free throw line empty. So I emailed him and asked why, I also told him that a Valpo fan thinks it's because he wants to prove he's smarter then everyone else. Here is his response. I am interested in yours;

Dave,

First let me say I am no genius, nor do I even think like most good coaches. I'm just trying to give my team it's best chance to win. The Valpo guy is wrong about my motive, yet he might be right in that I'm not very smart. The reason I leave the free throw line open is:

1. We make free throws at about 76%. So that's 24 misses out of 100 shots.
2. We historically rebound missed free throws at about 15%.  The national average is a little less. So out of the 24 misses we would rebound 4 of them.
3. So doing the math WE shoot 24 free throws a game so that's about 6 misses a game, which means we would rebound about 1 to 1.5 per game or we are giving up about 2 to 3 points a game if we converted the rebound.
4. On the defensive end, when our defense is set we give up about 0.8 points per possession (by set I mean all 5 are back and in position and the ball is being inbounded – dead ball situation.)
5. Our defensive points per possession in transition (missed or made shot) is about 1.08 ppp.
6. Not lining up ensures we are not committing fouls going for offensive rebounds.
7. This allows us to rest which is necessary to the amount of minutes some guys get and the pace at which we play.
Late in games if we are down, I will fill the lanes on a FT

Not sure you can defend me with this logic, but.........

64 is full of crap. I heard the same interview. I challenge anyone on this board to listen to it and tell me 64 is not telling a lie. Kampe still says it's not an advantage. All he does is promote the event. He wasn't even asked if it is an advantage. Message boards might be one of the few places some wack job with an agenda can make a false statement and you so called educated people pile right on.  I guess time will tell if it is or not, but give me a break.

Valpo Basketball / Re: How To Increase RPI Today
December 27, 2015, 12:18:04 PM
FYI, Kampe's responds to the Izzo quote of He'll be mad if ..... "Tom hasn't seen Valpo!"  Also, Yes Stlvalpofan.... a big enough rivalry that 21,000 fans were at the game, set a record for the largest NCAA crowd ever at the Palace and there have been many big games there over the years including finial 8 games. Even Lebron didn't draw that crowd. Should Oakland have won, maybe, the ball rolled around the rim and fell out. It goes in we have a chance at an at large bid. Did we get cheated, a little, but we were playing #1 with Big Ten refs. No one here doesn't think that Valpo is still the favorite. U are. But this is the best Oakland team I've ever seen and we have had some really good ones. A shame it has to be the same year you guys might have your best too. (I guess that's a good question....is this your best ever????)

Hey 2014 again you just don't read very well. Where did I say that pow had anything to do with it. PERCEPTION. I said..... he won 6 of the last 11. If your kid had done that you guys would be up in arms. I'm sure you will fire back some sort of "you know better, or your so smart. You are like my wife, you have to be right and you need the last word. With her I choose to be happy rather then right, with you.....nevermind
#25
No, that guy is not me. I really don't care about the awards, but really, what fan base doesn't want their kids to receive awards. If Williams had won there would be the same noise going on over here as there is at Oakland. It's what happens everywhere. Going into the last 48 hours any of 3 teams could have hosted, Valpo, CSU or Oakland so saying that a 4th place team shouldn't get awards is kind of short sited on your part. CSU is the 4th seed and has 2 guys on the first team, so why wouldn't fans that love Petros think he got jobbed. Why would you even worry about it. HC is still mad Drew didn't get the COY one year. What difference is that then allowing Oakland fans the same rose colored glasses. Bottom line, Valpo won, congrats, you had a great season, and your players were very deserving of any and all awards they got. Hayes was freshman of the week 6 of the last 11 weeks of the season. Tell me if T Walker had been 6 of the last 11 you guys wouldn't be up in arms over Bass getting the award. Me, I would have voted for Walker because I don't think you guys would have won the championship if he had gotten injured or couldn't play, as compared to Bass who had some nice games.  We all look at it from our own perspective, enjoy your season and let the Grizz fans feel jobbed.
