Thoughts are with that community, and hope that Peters' family is ok as well.

Yes, prayers for Peters' family, friends, and neighbors. Images of destruction coming from Alec's hometown are devastating.

Update: First word is that Alec's family is okay and helping their neighbors.

Excellent news!

That is a good selection...  However, I do have to say I like the experience of going back to the bookstore to purchase...   (excellent store in a pinch -thanks)

I'm biased because I used to work there, but that's where I've always gone for all my VU needs.

Anybody have an update on the game? I can't get the OU video feed to work. (And I'm also distracted by football on TV and the severe weather racing through the Midwest.)

i grew up in st louis listening to mike and jack buck, and they made a pretty decent pair. but as shannon's seeming interest level has declined, i've grown to enjoy john rooney. he's definitely the better of the pair in the cardinals booth right now.

the fact that this video was even made still infuriates me. do we really have nothing better to do while choking a huge lead against detroit than make some stupid knockoff of a stupid video?

The vibe I got from twitter was that state funding is far from a done deal.

i saw some stuff about it last week when i was in chicago/valpo for commissioning and yes, the public money is very much under fire. however, it wouldn't surprise me if it ends up happening because the city's goal is to completely renovate the mccormick place area. and the overall tone of the project seems to be fairly popular.

i find it intriguing that some of these incidents happened during practices, yet alec brown is refuting them. at the very least, it should give a moment of pause before we rush to judgment. it could be that brown is afraid of retribution, but if it's true that wouldn't matter because wardle wouldn't be around for the upcoming season anyway.

I was thinking the Marquis de Queensberry, although marquess is the English spelling (marquis the French).  A couple people keep writing "marquis" when they mean "marquee", kind of like how some people have glandular issues that cause them to lie prostate ;)  (Nice job on the last one, bro!)

The way to do this now is to announce the move and complete the move all in one summer.
One motion, right off!  (Seinfeld)

yeah, definitely jacked that up, and apparently managed to slightly hijack the thread. my apologies.  :-[

i admit, i'm intrigued by this whole thing. in its marquis sport, basketball, the valley is a step up from the horizon. one league has been a multibid league for several years, while the other has needed an upset in the final to stand a chance of it. and that was before butler left. let's be real - the league took a step back when butler left.

if we are seriously considering such a move (which i think could be a good one), i really think it needs to be paired up with long-term investments towards improvements of all facilities: baseball, softball, swimming, track/field, move soccer over to brown field permanently, basketball, volleyball.

I only suppose John Thompson III wasn't available.

I would take $1.2 million to live in IN versus $3.5 million in CA any day of the week.  You have the large cost of living difference to start with, so your current salary is probably closer to $2.5-$2.8 million in CA dollars.  Also, it is such a dirty, nasty state to travel through, outside of the ocean views.  They have no money to maintain their highways, so there is trash everywhere!  I lived in Orange County for a few years when I was in elementary school, and it was great back then.  I went back last year for my cousin's wedding, and was disgusted by everything I saw from Los Angeles to San Diego

It gets better as you go north on the pch. Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo are actually decent places. But with the high cost of living and taxes, I don't think I could live there long term. But I certainly didn't mind the five months I was stationed at Vandenberg.

I'm pretty sure shaka smart just signed a long term deal a vcu. I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon.

That has little to do with it.  A coach's contract protects them if they get fired, but if they choose to leave, there's rarely any significant buyout for leaving early.  Even if there is, the hiring school will typically cover that.

Smart is now the hot name at Minnesota since their AD was previously at VCU.

My point was that he's got a good thing going (minus the Michigan game) in Richmond, and coupled with the raise he got, it wouldn't surprise me if he stays at vcu for at least a few more years.

I think UCLA AD Dan Guerrero is targetting Chaka Smart.

Now UCLA and USC are looking for new coaches.  I wonder if the Beach and Loyola Marymount are next....

They can bring in Phil Jackson, Will Ferrell, Ryan Seacrest, Lindsay Lohan, ....

I'm pretty sure shaka smart just signed a long term deal a vcu. I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon.

Not once this season has anyone brought up anything about Bryce mismanaging timeouts.

wrong. it's been lamented about a fair few times, less so on the boards, but more frequently in game chats. specifically finding ourselves in situations where we only have 1 left around the 10 minute mark, or burning 3 in the first half. there's got to be better ways to weather the storm than burn 3 timeouts in a 5 minute span. intentionally slow the pace down and make sure everyone understands before ever getting into those situations that sometimes you're going to have to take a second to collect yourself individually. it can be done.

Virginia Comm.           88

VCU was throwing alley-oops and using a full court press while up 40.  That's how!

Real classy.

They did play eleven guys at least ten minutes a piece...

shaka did call off the dogs somewhat about halfway through the second half. if akron couldn't close the gap beyond that point, that's on them.
