I just want to come out in first five minutes of each half and play competitively. We competed with Drake at home. After yesterday - rebound, defense, rebound.

The number of times we've given up way too many Offensive Rebounds is a little surprising for this season.

This team is improving. MoSt will be ripe for picking after beating Drake. Don't let up for any reason.

One bodybag/buy game is OK for the experience and the cash flow.  Two (especially both in the MvFC) is really tough on the record, the players and the psyche. But it is one more paycheck, I guess. We did this in 2022 with ISUr and then added New Mexico State as a bonus at the end, but that was not two FCS schollies in a row. Then you add in both IWU and a NEC school (schollies as well, but no cash for these) — is any other PFL program as masochistic as this?

But we have  :deadhorse: this a few times before, and it is what it is. If Valpo wants football, it's do what ya gotta do.
Just speculation here, but maybe our current administration is considering a move to MVFC and buy games with ND or Purdue in our future??$!?

Can we continue to play well, especially on offense?  We really need a good defensive game.

We will need a miracle to win 5. With some continued good play we have a chance to win 4. Most likely 2-3 wins.

I'm going with 4-3

I could possibly see us beating Mo St & Evansville but out of Belmont, No Iowa
So Illinois, Drake, & Indiana State which two do you think we'll realistically beat?
I think we have a chance at home against Belmont and N Iowa. This may be more hope than think we win. Of the next 7, we have a chance in these games, especially at home.

Great win!  Way to stay in game, then push ahead in final minutes.

Why the heck is Cooper passing up wide open 3's to get it to Stafford, when he sees that Stafford is 1/11 today?  There is a certain point where you just need to realize that he doesn't have it today, and someone else needs to take that open shot.  He was wide open and passed it up...
Yeah, right now feed Weatherspoon!

Nice dead tv space during that timeout

Whatever we are doing to prepare for beginning of games needs to be looked into - we can't give  up a 10 point lead early in the first this often

Another winnable game. Can we have a good offensive game at the same time as a decent defensive game?  We need to show the MVC we are improving.

Didn't watch game. Our defense needs to be better - 62.5% from 3 pt land and 50.9% overall FG % allowed?!?  So close.

Well, why don't we make it six in a row against Evansville!

This team is learning how to win. Play well on both ends of the court, and for 40 minutes.

Great road win in MVC. Need to continue playing like this.

Time to start a new streak.

Schwieger needs to recognize that mismatch and take it to the hoop

Refresh my memory. When were we last ahead at the half in an MVC game?
From PO on X(formerly Twitter): First halftime lead @ValpoBasketball has had in a #MVCHoops game since leading Illinois State 42-38 on Feb. 11, 2023. That was also Valpo's last Valley win.

When a player such as this guy comes in, is he coming in for the spring semester and therefore participating in off season workouts or is this a "fall" guy?
Looks like he is a grad transfer - I would expect him enrolled now.

I'd like to think we continue the good play from Saturday, but for 40 minutes. Time to start a home win streak.

In this game I was struck by the contradiction in statistics between VU dominating the rebounds by a margin of 44-33 (15-8 in offensive boards); yet, Valpo's interior guys took very few shots and the team was beaten 38-28 on points in the paint. That is where the game was lost. Schwieger and Sepp each only attempted 4 shots the whole game while playing 58 minutes. I appreciate that DeAveiro has improved his game; however, something is wrong when he takes 13 shots, making only 3, while those higher percentage interior guys combined for only 8 shots (making 6). It is not like the inside shots were being blocked. Valpo actually led in blocked shots by a 7-2 margin.

The same thing happened in the Bradley game. Darius took 12 shots while Schwieger and Sepp combined for only 6 in 54 minutes (Ojiboye took 0 shots in the 13 minutes he subbed for those two), and Valpo lost on points in the paint by a margin of 32-18. Admittedly, Bradley has better interior players than UIC, and Bradley out-rebounded Valpo. However, the unbalance of shot selection needs to be addressed. In these two games, VU has lost on points in the paint by a 70-46 margin!
I didn't watch the Bradley game, but looking at box score I was surprised by Schwieger's stat line of 21 minutes, no points and no rebounds. I understand he is a freshman, but this was very different than his first several games. Sepp has really improved since his few games when he didn't play. The ball needs to go through Stafford and  Schwieger, who either create, or find open shot opportunities IMHO

David81 - nice, but you are drinking too much brown and gold koolaid. They won't win a game in the MVC tourney.
The way we've played the last seven games we'll be lucky to win two games. If we can get back to the GB to Drake stretch, and improve as the season progresses, we have a chance to be competitive in home games and some on road. As 12th seed, we'd be playing Missouri St, Northern Iowa or Bradley. Play a great game and we could win one in Arch Madness. Very unlikely, though.

I thought we'd be more competitive in MVC play by now. Tough few months ahead for the fans.

Over/Under for remaining wins should be 3.5. I'll take the over. Barrett and Palm need to embrace their limited minutes each half and go nuts defensively, gain some confidence, and hit their 2-3 shots per game.
