Just not feeling it. UIC looking to rebound from 3 poor quality games. They have the confidence to beat the Beacons.

I don't remember the game in 1966 at Hilltop because I was only 4 years & 10 months old. But I have a feeling I was at the game. Unfortunately my older brother doesn't remember it either and he was 7 years old. He thinks he might have had practice for a 2nd grade Easter program.




My prediction for the 2024 game is

Several Bretscher's had Valpo swim records from the 70s, Connie's sons or nephews I believe. I also worked for her grandson or great nephew (he swam at Ohio State)  as a coach at a a small college in Vermont from 2014-2017, he mentioned their Valpo legacy several times!

Connie was married to Arnie Felton for about 40 years.  He was the valpo university dentist back in the day.

Rev Paul bretscher was married to Juanita for about 40 years.

Pail was the pastor at Immanuel Lutheran church and taught some theology courses.   

It was their kids who set the pool records.  Another son is a radio host in Columbus Ohio,  and is the PA guy for the buckeyes using a stage name.

Paul and Juanita had 10 kids.  They all went to valpo. 

Connie was a teacher at Immanuel fir years, and gave piano lessons...including to my two kids, 30 years ago.

Paul and Connie married about 20 years ago.

I'm not sure where you got Pastor Bretscher's first wife's name and the mother of his kids but it was Marguerite.

This week the university has begun its demolition of Strongbow's restaurant. I have fond memories of that place.

A small but important step toward securing the university's future.

So the comedy club experiment was a failure.  :-(

Another disappointing 5 to 10 point loss with poor shooting, many turnovers and poor defense.


I really wish this team would prove me wrong but I see them falling into a pattern that I challenge the coaching staff to change.

Both Trine and St. Francis are good small school programs.

The only reason Trine has been any good is because it was started by Coach Dale Carlson who coached the Thunder through 2002 before going elsewhere.

I'm not sure where he went but I'm sure he was very successful.

I can think of one poster who just threw up a little in the back of his throat.

I'm afraid it's another nail in the coffin of Mary Evans time at Valpo.


There is some talent there that needs a head coach that can mold them into a winner and bring in some of that head coach's own pieces.

I think it's time for Palm to exist the starting line up. His minutes are diminishing and we're struggling to get going out of the gate. I feel we should start with our best foot forward and he isn't wearing the shoes.

Let's see how this new team/coaching staff responds after letting the Cougar game get away from them.

I do believe the coaching staff is trying to get it through to this Valpo team how to pull out late game wins but it hasn't gotten through to them yet. It does take a maturity, a maturity that players like Alec Peters, Rowdy Broekhoff, Bryce Drew, etc. had from the beginning of their college careers that this Valpo team doesn't have as of yet.

NMSU just beat Auburn.  Nice to know we contributed to building their improved 2023 season.   

Must have been Valpo's punting that challenged NMSU.

What's wrong with having a bit of fun?

The market has come roaring back in 2023. The S&P is up 20% YTD.  It has nearly gained back all the 2022 losses. I sure didn't see that coming in the face of high interest rates on fixed investments. 

Perhaps an extra distribution in 2024 can help bridge us to a better enrollment.

So this coming presidential election will have a great impact on VU too.

While Valpo was playing CSU, Samford was hosting Belmont.  Here's their recap of that win:


The Samford men's basketball team earned its ninth-straight win in a thrilling 99-93 win over Belmont Saturday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.

The nine-game win streak marks the longest for Samford since the 1998-99 team won 13-straight contests. Samford improved to 9-2 with the win. Belmont fell to 8-4 with the setback.

Just contested enough on a Tuesday afternoon with us working group at work to be another close loss.

Are you saying that Powell is falling into the "excuse trap" pressers that Lottich was imfamous for?

Could Powell be getting over frustrated with the results because he really has never had to do these kinds of press conferences over and over?

Lilly has issued major grants to Ball State, Purdue, and other Indiana universities for community partnership endeavors.

A little surprised/disappointed not to see Valpo on the list. I had thought we were close with the Lilly Foundation?

Also Lilly is close to both Purdue & Butler which have pharmacy schools that provide pharmacy students that become registered pharmacists in Indiana & researchers for the Lilly Corporation. If you go into any pharmacy in Central Indiana you'll most likely find a Purdue or Butler pharmacy student working as a trainee or brand new pharmacist as an intern.

TX, ya got that straight on.  Over the last decade we have had three great punters that have gotten u# out of holes that our offense had put us in  standing O for Mattes, Niesner and Wood.

Even Brad "Appreciates a good Beacon" Pitt was standing for our punters.

It's probably the most unpredictable game in Div 1 this season . Could easily go 30 points in either direction depending on who truly gets hot.

We shall see how much Palm and Sepp we get tomorrow
