There are at least 43 changes to Men's Division I basketball coaches:

This is almost 1 in 8 schools getting a new head coach.  This seems high, but I can't remember how many changes there were in past years.  I was surprised that Lamar hired Pat Knight.  Maybe he'll do well at Lamar.  I'm also surprised that IUPUI has not announced a new coach, it has been more than three weeks.

After George Hill of the Spurs endorsed the assistant Todd Howard for the IUPUI job I thought it was a sure thing that Howard would get the job.

But then I remembered the problems IUPUI had with their previous womens basketball coach and I think their AD Mike Morre is just being as open and diligent with the decision making process as possible.

Well, I'll say this...Lickliter is probably the best of the bunch, but he's a rental for a few years. His kid will be a junior at Marian University this coming season, so that at least buys you two years. After that, who knows. I also find it hard to believe that a former head coach from Oregon State is going to stay at IUPUI for more than 3 or 4 years. Provided the IUPUI assistant is clean, I'd be looking to hire him long term. If Howard wants it, he should get it.

Let's face it, IUPUI is a tough, tough sell. It's in the shadow of Butler and they play in a middle school gym. Hunter wouldn't even show recruits the gym (his words out of his mouth). They get no love from the press in Indy (less than Valpo does up north), and the administration is indifferent and aloof when it comes to the basketball team. About the only advantage they have is you don't have to leave Indy to recruit and get some really good talent (if they can get them into school).
