Very sorry to hear it.  He always seemed to be a fine young man.  Prayers for him...

It's been on the TV news in Indy.

Here's the story in the Indy Star.

This is a second illness for Andrew Smith. The previous illness was non-Hodgkins lymphoma but they are not sure this time around if it is cancer. He was admitted to the Simon Cancer Center at IU Hospital, the teaching hospital for the IU Medical School, which is part of IU Health and then the ICU. IU Health owns three major hospitals in the downtown Indy area including Riley Hospital for Children, Methodist Hospital and IU Hospital.

My prayers go out for the former Butler player.

Former Butler player Andrew Smith leaves hospital

Zak Keefer, zak.keefer@indystar.com

Former Butler University basketball center Andrew Smith leaves a hospital ICU after medical unspecified treatment which started July 31, 2014.

For so many, prayers were answered Monday.

Andrew Smith came home.
The former Butler basketball player had spent the previous 12 days in ICU as he continues to battle non-Hodgkins lymphoma, the cancer diagnosis that first stunned Smith and his wife, Samantha, last winter. They had moved to Lithuania as he began his professional basketball career, but returned to Indiana quickly thereafter to battle the disease.
Smith checked into the ICU on July 31. He was cleared to leave the hospital on Monday.
"We're thrilled with the miraculous progress he's made," Samantha Smith told The Star.
Smith, who played for the Bulldogs from 2009-13, was on Butler's national runner-up teams in 2010 and '11.
Said Andrew's father, Curt, on Saturday: "We are elated with the progress made each and every day. The Lord has blessed our family beyond measure."

Man, sounds like he's been to Hell and lived to tell about it, though it's also possible that the real hell was experienced by his loved ones.
