The schedule just got released.  Looks like  a decent OOC schedule with a ton of tournaments and some single matches. Ohio State (2015 #13 is a headliner.  The writeup mentions that VB only lost 1 senior to graduation so they should be a strong contender for the HL championship again.

The one senior was the starting setter but we have another setter who will be a redshirt junior, so has a lot of experience.  The lone newcomer is a California star who should help the defense.  Should be a fun year.

It looks like Men's soccer only lost three guys last year so hopefully the Avery's will both have Conference Championship years!!

Waiting for Mike's to come out, but Twitter already IDed that we're playing at Ohio State.

Our WVB team comes back from a 2-1 deficit to beat Army in 5 sets, winning the final set 15-12.  They finished at 2-1 in the tourney at West  Point, beating UC Bakersfield and Army and losing to Hofstra.

Hofstra was the Pre-Season pick to win the Colonial Athletic Conference Volleyball... they are a good team returning most of their starters from last year.... they beat Army 3-1 to end the invitational.  This was far from a 'Bad Loss"...

That is the Hofstra "Updates" Pride, of course. Hofstra was formerly the Flying Dutchmen. Good thing the Men's BB team is not playing Hofstra or Derrik Smits might have divided loyalty. Or Marist for that matter.

Interesting tidbit--the Hofstra mascots are Willie and Kate Pride. Why are they named Willie and Kate? The benefactors of the university are husband and wife, William Hofstra and Kate Davidson. Same as the royal couple Prince William and Princess Kate. Actually in 2011, during the royal wedding, Willie and Kate Pride, the Hofstra mascots, renewed their wedding vows in an "official" Hofstra ceremony.

Looks like a successful road trip to Alabama this weekend. Beat New Mexico State before losing to hosts Troy, on Friday. Up two sets to none against Austin Peay now. (Though they do see something about counting chickens.. Peay seems to have gone on a run and now Valpo is down 23-16 in the third.)

I was going to tune in for some of the match, but $6 is a bit much for me to watch half a match on a connection of unknown quality. $10 monthly (recurring) to catch both days.

Home competition next Friday and Saturday. Going to be a busy popcorn weekend with men's and women's soccer (at least) also at home.

Pretty sure it was the reverse, but details details!  Valpo just beat Peay 3-1.

Yeah, certainly the reverse. Just noticing that myself this morning (while watching the EC KC recap video on YouTube - check it out.)

I wonder if live stats and/or VU web page could have been wrong? Or if I just got tangled... I wasn't -that- surprised to (apparently) lose to the home team in front of what was apparently a lively crowd. But, I was pleasantly surprised to have (apparently) beat NM State, and was wondering how big of a deal that was.

Anyhow, thanks for the correction! Two wins away from home is good, anyway.

Three straight game victory for the Crusaders over the SEMO Red Hawks, 25-19, 25-19 and, you guessed it, 25-19.

Next up for VUVB is Central Michigan at 7:30 p.m. Central in the ARC

vu72

Wow!  Trouble in Valpoland.  Volleyball just lost to 2-6 Central Michigan.  Last game, 25-13.   :(

After the Popcorn Classic VU stands at 6-4.  This is not a typical start of the season for a Carin Avery coached team.  Is she using the OOC games to do something different in an effort to strengthen depth (or whatever) so that they will be tougher for the HL season and tournament runs?

Funny! I was there for much of the last game, but didn't notice the symmetrical scores.

I wonder if the switch to the Courts had some adverse impact? I didn't get the whole story about why the ARC conditions were declared unsuitable. It was moderately hot and fairly humid in the ARC during the SEMO game - maybe there was condensation forming on the floor? They were spending some time wiping up after digs; but since this happens in basketball games it didn't seem so unusual to me. They did have a couple of big fans going... Maybe the A/C in the ARC was having problems.

In any case, moving a tournament on short notice, mid-stream, can't be easy on the Athletics or Volleyball staff. Maybe it had some impact on the coaches as well.

(But, I don't know enough to have an opinion about whether Central Michigan should, other things being equal, have been an easy win or a stiff challenge.)

What's up with court conditions that the Popcorn Classic was moved to the "Courts"?
Apparently high humidity + a non air conditioned ARC = slippery floor.

Attempting to move this from the Basketball board.

Any ideas what happened to the ARC's A/C? It's normally air conditioned, isn't it?

Vinny

Unless it was installed within the last 7-8 years, I do not believe the ARC (at least the gymnasium) has air conditioning.

Huh! Shows out how much I hang out there during the summer.

It's a big place to treat, no question.

In basketball season it's sometimes _felt_ like there was A/C blowing on me in the upper deck. That it was colder, with more airflow, than I wanted. But, maybe that's just exterior air or some such?

No AC in the ARC. Does that make it just the "R?"

Something is not going well with the volleyball team.  Lost again to Bowling Green, 3-0.  Lost the first game 25-8!!!  I know Emily Campbell is injured but still, this is a senior filled team.  Now 6-5 heading into a match with #19 Ohio State.  Wonder when was the last time Valpo volleyball was .500 after 12 matches.

How long is Campbell out?  It is really hurting us against teams we should beat.
"Don't mess with Texas"

VULB#62

And didn't we just get blown out by Ohio State 3-0 as well?

Also missing Kayla currier for the past few matches.  Missing two hitters is brutal.
