This is a sad tragedy.
There have been warnings the past 3 or 4 days about rip current these next few days.  The state park beach was closed.  There is a lesson to be learned here.  Hopefully others can learn from this young man's mistake.

"There will be no autopsy"

I wonder why?

That and an autopsy really isn't necessary. His cause of death is known. He drowned. They did a tox screen, so they will know if drugs/alcohol played a role, and that's all they really need to know.

What religion are we talking about here?

I don't really know enough to make a strong comment, I was just struck by an impression that the cause of death -- just from that one article -- was not an open and shut case.  Maybe I've seen too much Law & Order, I dunno ;)

purely a hunch, but i wonder if there's a family member involved that's a devout enough muslim to have requested there be no autopsy. whether that's here in the states, or back in saudi arabia, i have no clue. but the article said that the cause of death was drowning. so that may be enough for the family.

He had a brother and sister also studying at Valpo so they obviously could make the call.  Apparently it is frowned on in the Muslim faith and, as said before, the cause of death was pretty obvious so no foul play would have been considered.

Now that you mention it, I remember the name sounding Arabic.

He's from Saudi Arabia(says in the article)...I'm sure it's for religious reasons...
