Alec and CSKA Moscow won the Euroleague this season.  They beat a team (Anadolu Efes in Turkey) that had two ex-Mavs in Rodrique Beaubois & Shane Larkin.  Alec doesn't appear to have played much over the last few weeks.  They are likely to win the Russian league, as well.

Without any information to better understand Alec's situation over there, it's nearly impossible to know what's behind his limited playing time. I will say this, if his team is so good that he can't get more than 5-10 minutes if fully healthy, they have to be close to NBA caliber.

It's going to be all about the right fit. AP was a very good role player last season with very good CSKA team.  Maybe he goes somewhere he can be more of a feature player in the offense and showcase himself to get back in the league if that's what he wants. Or maybe he goes to whoever pays him the most. Either way I think he's in a pretty good spot and will be a sought after commodity.

I wonder if he'll land on a NBA summer league roster this summer?  G League doesn't pay what he can make overseas, but that would give him a shot for a mid-year call up if he's playing well or there are injuries.

valpotx

I see him playing another year or two in a top European league.  He isn't ready for significant playing time in the NBA, but will be with some more PT.

Doesn't seem like he's on a summer league roster, which isn't good.

I'm thinking / hoping he's got something lined up. Otherwise, idk how he's going to pay for the million dollar farm he purchased a few years ago. Or the high rise apartment in downtown Chicago ...

valpotx

He will be perfectly fine.  Even if he never plays in the NBA again, he will have a fantastic and high paying career in Europe.

You're just a bundle of joy every time you post on the forum, aren't you? Have you ever stated anything positive about Valpo, it's current or former players and coaches?

What can a player like Peters expect to make per year overseas?  I genuinely don't know the going rates for Euro leagues.

I suppose for that matter, how much was Broekhoff making per year once he was established in European leagues (Russian)?

Russia (Moscow) is one of the top paying teams.  I saw one article saying their top players make $5-7 million per year.  Here are a couple of articles, not sure how old they are:

According to this 2018 article, the top 10 EuroLeague salaries range from $4M to 1.7M:

Nice article, it's safe to say making $1,000,000/yr is maybe not so common overseas.

Here's an article written on comparing earnings "D-League vs Euro League".  The author makes a strong case for ditching the NBA dream and earn for a decade in Europe with all expenses paid. (Assuming his 2012 article remains accurate or ever was accurate 🤷🏻‍♂️).

If you can't beat them, buy their players from them.

Good for Alec!  Two former Mavs on that team, in Shane Larkin and Rodrigue Beaubois, assuming that they return.

The Arena in Istanbul where Alec will play.

valpo84

6 degrees of Valpo point of reference:

Shane's the "U" team beat Rowdy's Crusaders in the 2012 NIT.  Shane is the son of Barry Larkin, whose brother Byron was one of the top players in Xavier history, playing for Pete Gillen. It was those mid-80s X teams that started the resurgence of that program along with recruits like Ty Hill, Derek Strong, Jamal Walker, Stan Kimbrough and Michael Davenport.  That was a solid team Valpo played in 1988-89 season.  For IU fans, Dave Minor was also on that team.

What a class act...the entire Peters Family!  We can be very proud that AP and his family have represented Valpo so very well.
