KenPom AdjEM [Adjusted Efficiency Margin (OE-DE)] for games played only in the MVC. If KenPom ranked only these 10 teams rather than 358 teams, this is what his ranking would show to date. Only 6-8 games have been played though depending on the team.

1. Loyola Chicago +12.90
2. Missouri St. +11.00
3. Northern Iowa +7.70
4. Bradley +5.70
5. Drake +2.40
6. Illinois State +1.60
7. So. Illinois -0.50
8. Indiana St. -7.30
9. Valparaiso -9.10
10. Evansville -27.70

Where does the MVC stand as far as over-all strength of the conferences?  Is there a published ranking?

I use collegebasketballreference.com, but the results on conference strength, not surprisingly, are very similar.

A few interesting takeaways:
-The ACC is really down (note that most bracket projections have them getting only three teams in the NCAA tournament).
-The WAC is really up. New Mexico State (who is leaving) and Grand Canyon drive part of this, but other teams (Seattle, Utah Valley and usc4valpo's beloved SFA) also drive this. If they took out Chicago State and Lamar, they would probably be in the top 12.

Sagarin has Valpo ranked #199 out of 358.  Interestingly, Belmont is ranked #66 and Murray State #70 though playing in the crappy Ohio Valley.  Conversely, UIC is ranked #280!!! :o

As only Loyola--at #37 is ranked above Belmont and Murray (Missouri State is second now at #73) I think it is pretty clear that the addition of these two teams should lift the conference into the top 10

Not to mention that the American conference will be losing its top team (Houston) and another who is usually strong (Cincinnati), and the West Coast Conference will be losing one of its stronger teams (BYU).

I wonder whether or not Loyola may ultimately regret the move to the A-10.  From a prestigious standpoint or even a ranking standpoint, the A-10 is just slightly thought of as Higher as confirmed by the Sagarin's ranking them as #10 and the Valley as #11. How that transmits to money would relate to the number of bids/wins in the Tournament.  With the addition of Belmont and Murray, I would thing the Valley actually passes the A-10 yet Loyola is left with significantly higher travel costs for all sports and students with less time in the classroom and more time on airplanes.

Good point, vu72.  Butler's jump to the Big East has been a bust as far as conference standings go since they joined that Conference.  However perhaps they welcomed the extra payouts from Big East teams in the Big Dance. But their costs of travel have had to increase significantly.  BU's attendance looks like it is down about 20 % this season.  They had hoped that when they joined the Big East they would sell out every game but that sure has not happened.
