Alec is up with the team and in Milwaukee tonight. He basically finds out each day where he needs to be. It's been a crazy scenario.

It was fun to see him in the video from the Phoenix charity event, with the dance-off etc (did that get posted here?). Clearly he's known to the team and management.

Hopefully he gets to fly business or first or something. But, still, for an athlete and a tall guy all the travel can't be easy. And sometimes he must be connecting small markets and so maybe flying on small planes.

And then this one is _just_ the dance "contest", from a worse camera angle, and kind of bizarre.

Did anyone know there is a documentary coming out about Brandon Wood's career? Homer gets referenced in the trailer.

Anyone remember Dave Bard? Radio guy who covered VU sports in the 70s.  He moved to the Carbondale area. Just found his April 2016 obit. He was 79

I am friends with Brandon on Facebook and knew he was working on it.

Yes, I once introduced myself to Dave Bard when he was doing a high school basketball game between Harrisburg, IL and Centralia, IL in a holiday tournament held annually in Centralia. He remembered my uncle who many of you know for his time as a student and a staff member at VU in the 1950's and from 1965 to his retirement. He and my cousins in Valpo are my contacts about many things Valpo.

The PA Guy at SIU worked with Dave for many years.  He and I had a nice chat after the game about the atmosphere... and about Dave.  He didn't know Dave started in Valpo.

Did anyone know Ali Berdiel became a singer? He has his own soundtrack and everything. He has a couple youtube music videos with over 100k and one over 400k views. Not my cup of tea but I thought it was interesting. I never knew him.

Quotevalpotx, you mention Lubos as having the 2d best pro career -- you pose an interesting question.  1. Who was 1st in your tally, and if it's Bryce is that because he was in the NBA?  2.  Who would folks top 5 pro careers nominees. I would have Bryce, Lubos, Chris Ensminger, Ryan Broekhoff and Ron Howard -- criteria success in those leagues, longevity and level of the leagues.  Honorable mentions include Joakim Gomes, Casey Schmidt and Ali Berdiel (maybe more for his singing career....) and Dan Oppland, who once said in an interview:

"Q: Austria isnĀ“t so much different than Germany, but there are its differences. What have you missed about Germany the last years?

A: (Oppland) I have probably missed the beer the most if you want me to be honest. There is no better beer in the world in my opinion."

Obviously, his Valpo showing.

In general, Ali's singing career was well known on this message board. I couldn't find any of the videos that were previously posted. Maybe they were posted on other Valpo message boards.

Was he an all-star this year, outside of the 3-pt shooting contest?

Edit: I just answered my own question, as he was on the World roster!  Notice any familiar names?

I bet that Major Wrath KVW would have owned Minnerath, yet again.

A much better video of Ryan's victory in the 3PT shooting contest.

That five in a row at the end was incredible. And what a ridiculous percentage. Gives you and idea of what he can do when left open, I guess. Really remarkable.

Dority is a kid that you can respect.  He may have some ill-advised drives to the basket, but the kid plays hard.

Very nice.

I know I've said this before - Cavanaugh and Redmon were part of one of the greatest basketball games I've seen in person.  It was their senior year at Valpo HS in the morning regional game. They went up against SB Riley, my HS and the team my sister was cheerleading for at that time.  Riley played up tempo.  The final score was 112-100.  Regulation.  A 32 minute HS game.  Punter definitely let them play more.  Redmon had the green light anytime he passed half court - almost same for Cavanaugh.  I think Redmon ended up with 44 and Cavanaugh 30.  Great game!

Oh, and Joel Beesley (LaPorte) played in the Regional Championship game later that night.

Rob and Joel were students of mine who sat side by side in class. They were terrific young men, and both have been very successful in their careers and as fathers. Time moves quickly: Joel's son Luke is currently a college basketball player at Southern Connecticut.

I met Ben Boggs yesterday, who made the trip down to TX to meet a few Valpo alums on behalf of his new role with the Crusader Fund.  I told him about this forum, so watch what you say :).  He asked if anyone ever said anything negative about him in his playing days, and I honestly don't think that ever happened.  Can anyone remember negative feedback on his games?
