Go vote for Valpo's re-creation of "The Shot", which is currently in 5th. #LetsDance

I was number 1,967 to vote for valpo... scroll down to the Horizon League picture...
Up to 1974.
We need to share this via social media.
I was 2139!
Not what I expected. Trés cute.
I was 2135, 2136 and 2137.
I only looked at a couple others and was not impressed. Didnt notice if our guys were winning in votes.
It would have been exciting if they could have gotten Bryce to do a cameo where he hugs the student who made the shot. Does anybody know how many takes that took?
2,481 at 8am CT today... Keep on Voting ! One per day apparently per IP/Email Address.
At a minimum the Valpo one should be beating Miami of Ohio.... But does that help our RPI (Rating Productionvalue Index)?
Quote from: historyman on February 24, 2015, 09:49:52 AMThat is a lot of takes!
they made the basket on the first take... the other 2,480 were to get the "Jared Nuness" facial expressions and the Bryce swan-dive just right....
Looks like we are still in 5th place, but not far out of 2nd place.
Gonzaga 10,927
Oregon 8,142
Duke 5036
Valpo 4937
Miami, OH 4372
UNLV 3501
As of 2:51 p.m. ET Thursday 2/26/15
4,950 as of 3:34 ET Thursday...
Was there a second contest as well? Involving Alec? That wasn't quite live when it was posted?
5573 now.
http://t.co/WOqVX9IxZ1 (http://t.co/WOqVX9IxZ1)
Looks tough to pass Gonzaga. Not sure how many "winners" there are.
Gonzaga 12,785
Oregon 8,981
Duke 5,626
Valpo 5,602
Miami, OH 4,998
As of 11:11 a.m. ET Friday 2/27/15
We could still take third by beating Duke.

Alec is down 85%-15%
Sykes is down 77%-22%
Felder is AHEAD 56%-44%

Pretty different players. Looks like Meyers is a low-post guy. And a senior JC transfer? 16.1 PPG to Alec's 16.8. 60% FG% (better than Alec's 2PG%, but presumably different shot selection), doesn't shoot 3's. Gets to the line a lot more often for 6 of his 16 points per game, but converts at a poor 65% to Alec's 83%. Outrebounds Alec a little, and turns it over more. All in 10% fewer minutes. I didn't look at tempo.
You'd think you'd give the edge to Alec, unless the versatility of his game bothers you somehow. But Meyers' numbers are pretty good too.

Hmm...wonder if they are onto the ballot stuffing measures. All of the poll results are now set to private. Last I saw, we had bumped Alec up to 58%
They didn't seem to mind this afternoon.

They seem to have _some_ protections. I've not tested carefully - whether it's too many in a fixed time period from a fixed IP, or what.
But, even manually submitting, I occasionally sort of time-out. I switch wifi hot spots, or maybe just let it cool off, and I'm good to go again.
*shrug*
The site doesn't actually have any rules posted. Pretty low key.
It is still accepting votes. Stuff away!

There's no IP address recognition, it's just stored with cookies in your session - opening it in incognito or clearing your cookies will register a new cookie (now I'm getting hungry). Unfortunately when a vote is sent, it sets a new session cookie and uses it with the actual vote request so its hard to automate this.

I've just got cookies off entirely - I've been doing this mostly in Chrome. It lets me vote maybe 10-20-30 times, maybe more, but then does start with the "already recorded your vote" behavior, or otherwise makes it difficult to record a vote (the vote button just doesn't operate, for example). Waiting a bit, or maybe it's changing routers (IP's?), seems to clear it.
I figured they could be recording IP's on the back end. Or maybe even using them automatically, but not in a strict "one vote per IP" way.
*shrug*
It's clear they're not trying very hard to prevent ballot stuffing. But, I can see why you'd want to keep scripts away.
Maybe the behavior I saw was unintentional - just some sort of glitch.
I would have to imagine that they stuffed the ballot to begin with, as no neutral party voters would vote 90% for a UMES player, over a Valpo player on a team that is 26-5.

Mike Myers def. Alec Peters (by 4 votes!)
*stunned*
A funny system, to be sure.
After hundreds of votes for Peters were apparently 4 short...I will make sure Tevon Walker wins! At least there's no UMES freshmen up for the award; it really makes me wonder how many votes were cast in the Myers-Peters race versus the other ones...
uhh... I voted about 200 times today with an app that I programmed this morning. I thought it would be enough .... which tells me someone else did the same thing for Meyers.
I will run the app for Tevonn - anyone know when the voting is over?
Voting runs until next Sunday at 8pm ET, and Tevon has 94.19% early, so I (hopefully) don't think we're going to need to crank out hundreds of votes for this one, but it doesn't hurt.
Alec had at least 1400 before they turned the display off, when he was at 58%. So, figure ~4k votes in this race, at least. Maybe 5k or more. Which makes it all the more surprising the final tally could be so close
It wouldn't surprise me if some of the others had a hundred votes, or less. As mentioned, UMES has been here before.
Paris Bass who has a good chance to win Freshman Player of the Year for the HL is getting crushed by Eric Paschall.
When I voted it was Tevonn Walker - 93.88%

It's not a bad idea...
I mean, admittedly, this isn't a contest about the relative skills or merits of the players. It's a contest about the passion, organization, and wherewithal of the fan base. And a contest with ill-defined rules.
I think someone from UMES must have researched something like this

They were organizing the old fashioned way, to some extent. Twitter, newspapers. Maybe in-game announcements.
Who knows, many of their votes might have come one click, one user, at a time. (But I sort of doubt that was the lion's share, any more than it was for us.)
Tevonn's north of 95%.
I helped St. Mary's guy get up past 38%, but Austin Powers has a lot of votes...
Tevonn is up to 96%. I've probably added 200 votes or so in the last three days.

THE GRASS ROOTS- "WHERE WERE YOU WHEN I NEEDED YOU" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmQsCRFycaQ#)
Tevonn's still cruising. Someone will toss in 50 votes for the other guy sometimes, but he's still below 4%.
Austin Powers has been quiet. Mysteriously quiet. They are still playing basketball... (quite a tournament week calendar planned; Gladys Knight!) St. Mary's guy has a slight lead - but I'm sure UMES will kick it into gear at some point.
How's that Shot contest going?
Their technology seems to be improving! I got a message:
"We have received too many votes from you. You will be unblocked after a cooling off period. "
after pushing St. Mary's guy back above Austin Powers.
Powers picked up a big slug of votes. It'll take some work (or, I suppose, some software) to put St. Mary's back on top. And probably a solid effort if/when they hide the results.
Powers got a crush of votes, many Sunday, to put him up to what seemed like an insurmountable 65%. Next up for him is a cat from Northwestern St. not sure if he'll be much of a challenge.
More importantly, Tevonn breezed through and is up against a certain Tayler Persons, from Northern Kentucky (the Norse?!) in the round of 16.

The Noresman doesn't seem to have any votes yet, but I figure we'd better give Tevonn a thousand or so, at least.
Apart from the most enthused fan bases, I wonder if this contest's going to run out of steam as teams are eliminated.
Just voted... Tevonn has 74%... just looked again.. now 75.79% it's magic.

God Florida really is awful.
Humidity is actually above 90%.
But you don't have to shovel it.
Probably the only downside to living here is that I wear out my flip-flops faster than Charlie Crist.
Jalan West, up against Austin Powers in the "Elite Eight", actually seems to have some support! I've not done much for him, but he's close to 53%.
Tevonn seems to be doing OK. In the 80's, with a decent number of votes.
Tevonn's through to the next round.

Tevonn was behind this morning, but with a very small number of votes cast.
That Powers character seems to have gone through as well.
I'm not sure what happened to the other contest, with The Shot.
TThat guy from Samford (13-19 on the season)...Christen Cunningham... in their last game:
10 Christen Cunningham * 3-5 0-2 4-4 1-0 1 1 10 0 1 0 1 31
Season Stat Line:
43% from the field, 27% from 3 and 79% from the line, 16 OR, 61 DR, 77 TR with 125 assists and 73 TO, 38 Steals
Tevonn's stat line:
44% from the field, 32% from 3 and 72% from the line, 36 OR, 75 DR, 111 TR, with 56 Assists, 51 TO, 37 steals)
Tevonn is up to 78.38% when I voted.
As of 5:12 p.m. Monday 3/16/15 77.59%.
So the Samford group has some multiple votes going into this contest.
Samford is making a move. Tevonn is down to 57.79% as of 12:21 a.m. Tuesday 3/17/15. If we don't want to see another Valpo player lose by 4 votes or less please vote at least once or do the multiple voting (just like Chicago-the dead vote and count).
http://www.collegecourtreport.com/ccr-mm-fr-poy.html (http://www.collegecourtreport.com/ccr-mm-fr-poy.html)
To multiple vote: right click on the website address then click on "Open link in incognito window."
Vote as you would normally then close the website. Then repeat the procedure by starting to right click on the website address.
When the message says "Thank you, we have already counted your vote" you can stop but you can always continue after about 15 minutes or so. Tevonn needs you now!

With help from my cousin I've been voting as often as possible. There are 11 hours left in the voting as of 9:00 a.m. I'll be heading to church services. It would really help if someone could keep voting. We have until 8:00 p.m. Eastern.

Tevonn needs you now and until 8:00 p.m.
Thanks to whoever did all the voting while I was at church.
Samford is continuing to vote for Cunningham constantly. Potsie or Ralph probably. Watch out for the Fonz!

Keep voting!!!
7:25pm Central... +55.18 ! after my vote tonight.
And Tevonn is through to the Final Four. Maybe not yet open for voting?
And, Austin Powers has gone down!

Actually they put Cunningham of Samford through.
How did that happen?
No, Tevonn is in the final four. Just voted for him.
I'll vote more later, but right now he's at 65%

Not very clear what happened. I exchanged some tweets with the guy running the site, this morning, and Tevonn's back.
You think any Samford fans noticed? ;)
This, and the Peters hidden poll result business don't exactly instill confidence. But? Hey, it is a ballot box stuffing contest.
Don't know if the Peters thing was intentional, or not. But, he's doing it deliberately this time for the POTY (not Tevonn's contest) final.

Put up 22 points in 37 minutes against Duke. Sounds like the kid can play. Tough luck drawing a 16 seed, but great to have an NCAA win on your resumee.
Strength of schedule's a factor, of course. Looks like their best win, part from in the NCAA, was RPI 127 ULM (recent addition to D1?) on a neutral court.
And, having also recently been bounced out of the tournament, his fan base may still be awake.
Support Tevonn!
Interesting how the website owner had Cunningham at first. We must have really surprised him with our vote totals on the last day, Sunday. We went from 44% to 55% in one day.
Here's the website address for voting for Tevonn.

I wonder if it was just a typo or thinko on Monday morning. I didn't get a very clear explanation from him on twitter.
On Sunday night he had actually already posted the bracket for the "final four", with Tevonn, but without links to polls.
And then Monday morning he revised it, removing Tevonn, with polls. I inquired and he said something like "Yeah, I thought it was Tevonn, but when I checked it was the other guy." But, I think he mis-checked.
Certainly the poll, still visible on polldaddy, Monday morning said Tevonn with a good margin.
Anyhow, I think he got it right in the end. But, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Or make me look forward to a "blind" final.
Tough to argue with this one right now. Tevonn has 83.94%
86.84% as of 8:40 p.m. 3/24/15, very good day for Tevonn.

87.5 % as of 11am Wednesday.

This made me chuckle. Well done.
Our opponent seems to have mounted the most modest of charges. Tevonn's "down" to 88.5%.
But, stay alert! A few (dozen) votes wouldn't hurt.
Right now a single vote will bump Tevonn up 0.03%. By my very limited math skills means there's over 3000 votes in right now and this also means that his opponent has less than 200 votes. He should be comfortably into the finals, but there's 3 days left.

I think you may be off on the number of votes you have calculated. When I just voted it took me 15 votes to move the percentage from 89.30 to 89.47. So most times I voted a single vote moved the percentage by .01%. I think I moved it from 88.80 to 89.47 as of 12:30 p.m. eastern. BTW, I noticed the clock on this poll is set for Eastern Standard Time (not daylight saving) so EST matches with CDT.
EDIT: In my next 25 votes, the amount I am allowed before the message says "we have already counted your vote," Tevonn's percentage moved from 89.47 to 89.74. So 25 votes moved it .27%
my one vote took it to 89.75....
Looking at the other bracket... similar lead...
Jorge Sosa from Florida A&M is at 84.52... so Vote for Stephens!!
My next 25 votes moved it from 89.75 to 90.01%. So 25 votes moved it .26%.

Different strategies can work. I've got Google Chrome (not my standard web browser) sort of dedicated to the task. There, I've just gone into Settings and turned cookies off.
This lets me vote a fair number of times. Vote, reload the page, vote, reload the page. (Or, in practice, I usually keep four tabs going sort of cyclically.)
If you vote _too_ often (maybe 30 or so in a row at my usual pace?), it'll still give you the "thanks" message, and force you to cool off a bit. Maybe a few minute cooling off period?
I've not tried to automate the process - a stand somewhere between fuzzy ethics and laziness.

I'm torn on the strategy here.
Do you want to try to defeat the guy with the strong natural base of support?
Or, perhaps, you want to _discourage_ people from getting involved. Either let the guy win in a runaway, or even _help_ him win in a runaway, to make his support base complacent.
Not sure.

As a reminder if you would like to vote multiple times for Tevonn here is how to do that.
Right click on the web address above. Click on "Open link in incognito window"
Then vote for Tevonn in the usual way. Then click the website closed. Then repeat as many times as the website allows. When the website message is "Thank you, we have already counted your vote." you can then stop voting. You can go back after a few minutes and keep voting if you are so inclined.
90.75% after my most recent vote.

Between yesterday morning and this morning I was able to cast 500 votes for Tevonn. I would like to see anyone on the board do better in a 24 hour period. So the challenge has been made. Who can beat it? I'd really like to see if anyone can.
Awesome!
To be clear, 100 votes woukd also be great. Or 20. Or 1,000.

Absolutely!
Actually I was a lot busier today and only got about 100 votes made for Tevonn. Keep those votes coming. Tevonn will definitely need them. If I'm correct the group of voters voting for Jorge Rosa of Florida A&M cast over 3,000 votes in the last round. We need any possible vote for Tevonn to beat out this powerful group.

I don't normally keep track, but, voting in idle moments through the day, I'm at about 213 so far. Don't think I'll make it to 500.
But every vote (every dozen votes) counts! Keep it up!
Looks like my 24 hours tops out at about 342 votes.
But, keep it up! Maybe somebody can pass bbtds! Every (dozen) vote(s) counts!
Tevonn needs some love!
Three more days! Send him some votes!
http://www.collegecourtreport.com/ccr-mm-fr-poy.html (http://www.collegecourtreport.com/ccr-mm-fr-poy.html)
I voted between 275 and 300 times for Tevonn yesterday. Tonight I have about 200 votes in and still going.
Please keep it going, folks. I have no doubt that the Florida A&M voters for Jorge Rosa have as many or more votes cast for their guy. They cast over 1,000 votes for Rosa the first day in the last round and came on very strong at the end of the voting despite having a 50% votes advantage.
This is the same poll, might be easier to open: https://polldaddy.com/poll/8766531/
Don't forget to vote for Tevonn today! While you're watching the Final Four, or before and/or after Easter Vigil, or whichever way you swing.
I've probably tossed in 100 today, in bits and pieces. Will maybe manage again as many.
Sure, it's Easter. But after church, before dinner, after the egg hunt. Why not throw a couple of (dozen) votes Tevonn's way?
Polls are scheduled to close at... I guess 8:00 PM eastern, 7:00 PM central.

The voting actually goes till 8:00 p.m. central daylight time (eastern standard time). When the guy set it up the clocks hadn't changed yet so he set it for ES(tandard)T. That is the same as CDT.

Yeah, that's what motivated my "I guess". The text re "eastern standard" on his web page. I figured he probably just meant "eastern" and wasn't thinking very hard about DST.
Did he actually have the poll daddy closing at 8:00 PM central today? In the past it's seemed pretty haphazard - almost like he's closing it by hand, and sometimes forgetting to do it, etc.
In any case, it's closed now. I guess we'll find out the results tomorrow.

I assumed it was automated since the guy was so specific about his times. I noticed that the previous round--when the Samford people questioned the vote tally after their freshman had been advanced and then it was reversed--closed(http://cdncache1-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png) after 7:00 p.m. central which bbtds attributed to the time actually being standard instead of daylight time. I never noticed if the voting closed(http://cdncache1-a.akamaihd.net/items/it/img/arrow-10x10.png) exactly on time.
No announced winner yet and that was supposed to happen by 10:00 a.m. EST (CDT). The guy running this poll sure has not followed the schedule he set himself. It does make a person question the whole validity of the poll. Secret vote talleys and all.

Alas. Maybe we were a bit short on "broad range of support" or "individual heroics". Maybe it would have required electronic means.
Hard to know how to win, what lengths are required to win, a blind ballot-box stuffing contest.
It did seem yesterday that their survey was maybe slow. Couldn't decide if it was them or me. I certainly wondered if someone was electronically hammering their server.
[tweet]585122179458736129[/tweet]
Numbers that wouldn't _have_ to have been due to electronic ballot-stuffing.
But certainly might have been.
Otherwise, could be as few as... a couple?... of more-than-a-little dedicated fans clicking a lot.
I guess their guy got about 56%.

The writing was on the wall. I'm disappointed that we could not get 10 more voters to cast 100 more votes each for Tevonn and bring him home an honor that he especially deserved since losing the HL freshman of the year honor to Paris Bass. Did anyone here let Tevonn down but not casting 100 extra votes for him that they easily could have done? Seems similar to how we let Alec lose by 4 votes. Shame! Shame!
