*Oakland gets the 1:30am (ET) slot at the Great Alaska Shootout against Nevada early Thursday morning
Martez Walker (Oakland: Junior) and Dikembe Dixson (UIC: Sophomore) are going to give Alec a run for his $ for the Horizon League player of the year. Alec is still probably the favorite.
don't forget about Mark Alstork for the Raiders...averaging over 30/game through 4 games...and Cameron Morse for the Penguins!

Not sure where to put this, but I would guess that the Fort Wayne Mastodons will be entering the poll after their victory over #3 Indiana University By 3 in overtime. Probably should be glad we're not playing them a return game at the memorial coliseum this year.

IU won't be playing anyone in the state at this rate (minus Purdue). Maybe they can just play all the other IU schools without Purdue in the title (IUSB, IUNW, IUSE, IUK, IUC, IUE)
Quote from: bsmith21 on November 23, 2016, 07:48:49 AMIt is also never great for a team when the team you are going against cares so much more about a game than you do
That's probably never the case, rather it's that one team cares more about winning and the other about not losing.
The most amazing part about that game was that IPFW's center and leading scorer fouled out and they still won. They played with confidence for most the game (last 5 min of regulation not withstanding), and a lot of that has to do with the fact they were playing at home.
Kudos to ipfw for taking advantage of the unlikely circumstance. When this was scheduled, I'm sure IU assumed this would be a cake walk as ipfw has improved considerably in the past few years. It goes to show that winning on the road is difficult, and if power conference teams actually played half their games on the road, there wouldn't be as big of a perceived gap between mid majors and power conference schools come selection Sunday. It's incredibly frustrating that this will lead to even less road games and more RPI gaming, and the likes will all continue to get rewarded for cowardly schedules.
There were a lot of interesting things that Fort Wayne did to get IU back to Fort Wayne. Bobby Knight use to come up to the Memorial Coliseum and play games every once in a while, not against Fort Wayne, but against other non-conference teams. Some donors from the area talked to Crean and the AD about playing here and they agreed as long as this was an IU HOME game and season ticket holders could get into the game as if it were in Bloomington. IU was given over 7000 tickets and they were allowed to set the ticket prices and much to Fort Wayne's dismay (because they knew they could probably sell the place out no matter what the price was) the prices were set relatively low compared to what Fort Wayne wanted to sell them. This really reduced Fort Wayne's take from this game and they were pretty upset about it.
As many have mentioned, this is a great win for Fort Wayne, but it will make it infinitely more difficult for them and other Mid Majors to schedule power conference teams at home and even neutral sites. I doubt if IU will ever play in Fort Wayne again. However, I can't wait to talk to Coach Coffman next Tuesday before his coach's show.
A nice bump for Valpo to #3 in the College Insider coaches poll. It's going to be hard to pass Gonzaga and St. Mary's. Unless they start laying eggs, or we beat Kentucky (!).
BYU tumbles all the way to #14 - hopefully more about Utah Valley State than about us.
Oakland hangs around at 25, Wright State #31.
Funny that the Sagarin keeps Oakland so high, still above us at 83 vs 85. Ken Pom has us at 75, to Oakland's 132.
The RPI's maybe starting to be meaningful (as much as it ever is, perhaps... before things are watered down by the big conference teams flashing their gaudy non-conference records at each other).Valpo 93, Wright State 125, Oakland 136. And the Horizon overall at a dismal #19. Barely above Southland. Below SoCon. Below the OVC. Below the surprisingly strong Sun Belt.
