A 6'7 wing out of Minneapolis. A 3 star:

We certainly have competitors as we recruit Goanar.

What are our chances, or do we have a legitimate shot with any of the remaining prospects that we have already offered?  We still have 2 scollys available?

FieldGoodie05

With Keith losing his appeal I believe we only have 1 scholarship available for 2016/17.  With (2) transfers taking scholarships but unable to participate this year.  So we are really down to 10 scholarship participants yet we are using 12/13 slots.

A little more personal interview with Hazen http://news-sentinel.com/sports/Parker-Hazen-warms-to-Valpo-quickly-in-recruitment

I think we may have our answer to the question we were asking at tournament time: 'Which has a bigger positive impact on the program - going to the championship game of the NIT, or winning a game in the NCAA?

It also doesn't hurt that the Crusaders have become a strong program the past few years. Last season, Valparaiso set a school record for wins with 30 and was runner-up in the NIT. This recent success played a factor in Hazen's decision.

"I mean, five years (ago) if you said Valpo, I'm not going to lie, I probably was not going to know who they were," Hazen said, "but last year they went to the NIT and got second and finished ranked 31st in the country and that's awesome. It really did go into my decision."

I wonder if Coach Lottich is planning to play a different style from Coach Drew.  Parker said this:

"Valpo likes to play a little small," Hazen said, "but also they play faster-paced and they want me on the wing where I can do a little bit of everything based on the match-up. I can post-up if a guard is on me or if a bigger post is on me I can take him outside to the wing and shoot or drive by him. They like versatile guys and saw that in me which I jumped on board."

Not sure where he got the "little small" thing.  Last year we played 6'11, 6'9 and 6'8 up front with guys like Hammink and E coming off the bench.

Next year we may even be bigger with Derrik and Sorolla.

A personal interview with Parker Hazen choosing Valpo in the F W News-Sentinel???????????    Tom Davis must be on vacation!  Hopefully this recruit will help us recruit in-state (Indiana) in the future.

At about 20 miles distance Columbia City probably has many Sentinel subscribers. The level of future Valpo coverage by the paper should depend on the size of that subscription base and his and the teams future success.

Since we all love his work  :o, lets hope Tom Davis is quoted here on a regular basis.

Looks like we've offered Marcus Carr, another Canadian:

He has other offers, including Vanderbilt.

When I read the article on-line, I noticed they used a Tom Davis file picture.  Chef's twitter buddy may become more quotable in the near future.

To those of you who are more familiar with the remaining outstanding prospects for next year, who do you believe is the one, or ones, we are most interested in  signing?

Oh I would LOVE it if Lottich out-recruited Bryce.

It looks like the Vandy offer was 7/26/2015 (previous regime).  Don't know if that means anything with respect to BD -- could be going in a different direction (or not).

More stories from this guy,  Jonathan Batuello, and less from the Butler-centric, Davis, would go a long way for this news group in Ft Wayne.

Regarding recruit Axel Okongo from Thetford Academy in Canada, found the following short bit of recruiting info on his social media file at Verbal Commits. Wonder if he chose Valpo how we would utilize 3 7' players. Nice problem to have I suppose

WHAT A GREAT PROBLEM TO HAVE...if you have balance throughout the rest of the roster.

Another similar article from the Chicago Tribune/Post Tribune about Parker Hazen's verbal to VU http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/post-tribune/sports/ct-ptb-mens-basketball-valparaiso-parker-hazen-st-0712-20160711-story.html

I'd missed Luke's promotion - very nice! Associate Head Coach has a nice ring to it.

I'm sure UIC will get him.  Whatever car they are offering is probably better than ours.

So Hazen turned down UIC's car? Must have showed him Freedom Auto Depot on Western instead of Loeber Motors on Touhy.  ;)
