Was the last item, basically, on the 10-11 PM live SportsCenter.

I was amused to get a reply from the anchor on Twitter during a commercial break as I waited impatiently for the segment.

VU2014

The Alec Peters ceremony for breaking the Valpo Scoring Record and Rebounding Record. Bryce Drew and Chris Ensminger give Alec a shout out at the end of the video. Very cool. Alec is in the elite company and is already a Valpo all-time great.

Side Note: I just took a look at Chris Ensmingers stats and some highlight clips. Holy cow he looked like one hell of a player.

OK, I'm impressed-covufan!    from the Lehigh media guide:   BEFORE LEHIGH: Standout forward/center [Tim Kempton] from Brophy College Prep in Arizona ... A skilled post player, is the son of Tim Kempton who played at Notre Dame and in the NBA from 1986-98.  So the timing would have been right for dad to have been at ND during the Dedication season.

Not a good game with NKU from Alec.  5 turnovers.  I've heard a lot about the low 3 point percentage not being a concern to NBA scouts, but should it be a concern for VU this year?

The perimeter percentages are down this year, but so are the attempts. We attempt the fewest 3-point shots in the HL, yet here we are at 18-4 (8-1). A big part of that is that, even as low as our perimeter percentages are, we allow our opponents an even lower percentage. Would better shooting help put us over the top?  I'd say so.  Is it killing us?  Not so much.  As for Alec, is his decreased perimeter performance related to his increased aggressiveness in the post and has it more than been made up for in increased 2-pointers, free throws, and rebounds?  You betcha.

Hearing that Alec will be on radio in Indy later today, AM 1070 sometime between 6:00-6:30 (5:00-5:30 Valpo time).  Live stream is here ... http://player.listenlive.co/20111 .  If they podcast it, I'll post a link later.

For those who did not see Chris Ensminger play, he was a double-double machine his Jr and Sr year.  He was another big man project coming to VU out of Cincy area.  He grew rapidly between JR and Sr year HS and was a good 6'11 when he went to VU.  He was about 190 his frosh year but built up to 250-260 JR year.  He was a true post.  Not necessarily quick up and down the floor but had great footwork and a soft touch around the basket and always positioned well for rebounding. With Bryce on the outside and Chris on the inside, it caused the Mid-Con lots of problems.  And, he is one of the nicest people you'll meet.  He played in Germany for nearly 20 years, perennial all-star and now coaches in the Bundesliga.  BBall was in the family too as we should have tried to get his brother, Mike, who played and started for Charlie Coles' (God bless his soul) Miami of Ohio team.  Mike was a power 6'7" 250 forward who set mean picks and was tough as nails.

I listened live. Nothing to earth shattering - Peters is a humble kid. He referenced his teammates and friends at Valpo as the reason why he stayed.
