Word I hear is that there will be a press conference tomorrow concerning Men's Basketball, which will be attended by President Heckler. No details yet. Anyone know more?

vu72

I have no idea but if the President is there then it is more important than signing a recruit.

Obviously I haven't been spending enough time at VU....this comes as a total surprise to me....Even my normal "buds" didn't tell me....

Recently, I heard some rumors that Homer might leave in a couple of years. Hearing this report that he could be leaving tomorrow shocks me. I was not ready to hear that today. Certainly makes my Monday a little more interesting...

I would just like to congratulate Homer on a terrific 22-year tenure at Valpo and wish him well in his retirement.

After a rocky first five years, he sure set a lofty standard for success in Midwestern non-BCS college basketball.

He always put a product on the court that competed exceedingly hard.

Congrats to Homer and Bryce!

With the incoming and returning talent, it must have been a good time for Homer to leave the sidelines.  I wish him well in retirement.

valpotx

Congrats to both as well.  Interesting that it is on the front page of espn.  Caught me off guard when I went to check the Mavs/Thunder preview, to see a story on Bryce taking over!

Well, we knew this day was coming, didn't we?  I couldn't find it in any of the prior links, but it'll be interesting to see how many guaranteed years Bryce gets on his contract.  I'm guessing 5-7 years.

Is this press conference going to be streamed?

A special Guy thanks for the years! he started with Players and made graduates.

Yes, see the following note:

The Valparaiso University Department of Athletics will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. CDT, Tuesday, May 17, 2011, in the Harre Union Ballroom to make a major announcement concerning the men's basketball program. You are invited to join University President Mark A. Heckler and me for further details.

If you are unable to attend, the news conference will also be streamed live through the Horizon League Network at www.horizonleague.org/live/3883

I encourage you to come out and show your support.

He's been called the nicest guy in Division I basketball, and I have nothing to refute that with.  He's always been straight with me during the 17 years I have worked with him in various capacities (Games, TV Coaches Shows, Radio, Interviews etc.).  I not only admire him for his coaching abilities, but I admire him as a man....and count him among my friends.   The 10 years I traveled all over the country with the team will never be forgotten.....Thanks Coach........

Good luck to Homer in his second retirement,  He has been a credit to the University and will be ending a successful career.  You will be missed Homer!!!!!

Also good luck to Bryce.  You have some large shoes to fill, hopefully you will continue the legacy that your Dad leaves.

A bit in shock on this one as I thought he would try for one more Tourney appearance this year with this class. However, the way recruiting is people probably are using it against us and this is forcing the transition.

Homer's legacy at VU and in college basketball will be hard to match by any coach. But more important was that he was the same terrific, caring person from the first time I talked to him his first year until today. God bless his 2d retirement.

And congrats to Bryce. He has done all the work necessary to be a head coach and this is a great succession plan by the University and AD Mark L.

I hope Coach Drew continues to work for VU in a fund raising capacity.  I think he would be great at it.  Paul

Coach Drew, thanks for the memories and also for your kindness.  Thanks for the way you show sportsmanship and class by the way you handle yourself and the way your teams always play hard and represent VU in the best way.
I will miss you and all you have done to make the Horizon League better.  I will also miss speaking with you after games both win or lose.  I have attended every VU/Detroit basketball game since the Crusaders joined the league and I have always enjoyed my visits to the ARC but more importantly my visits with you.  Have a great time in retirement and I, along with the Detroit Titan family wish you and your family all the best.  You will be missed, even by the opposition.
