Just received an email from MLB stating the below, which is pretty exciting for our Tennis programs!

I am pleased to announce another step forward for our athletic facilities. Permitting is underway and construction is expected to begin this semester on a tennis locker and restroom facility. The building will be located just beyond the left field wall of the softball field and just southwest of the new Beacon Hall dormitory. The facility will provide onsite locker rooms for both our men's and women's tennis teams, which practice and have home matches on the University tennis courts just to the east of the softball field. The facility will also provide public restrooms for softball games and a covered pavilion for tennis tournament organizers. Construction is expected to be completed before the tennis teams transition outside for the latter half of the 2015 spring season. Below you can see the general location and lay out of the facility.

Football, track, and now tennis....could the ARC be next?

Yeah, just read his September report.  This is good and will help to continue the strong recruiting that is helping VU gain HL and regional credibility.

Sure, women get six toilets an we get two! (one urinal!!)  As long as they don't sell beer I think we will be ok!  It really is a great addition for not just tennis  but also softball.

Looking at a satellite view on Google Maps, there appears to be a structure there already. Is it a house? Or was it a construction trailer for Beacon Hall?

Betcha it's the mechanical room with the furnace and the hot water heaters,

The small room in the back is the mechanical room for the building. As for the location, it is going in the spot recently vacated by the construction trailers for Beacon Hall.

Hopefully the building is far enough back from the softball field, that any HRs don't break windows :)

Something doesn't compute unless I'm mistaken.  There will be only 18 women's lockers.  The rosters of softball and women's tennis total 28 (19 and 9 respectively).  Plus SB lockers need to be bigger because of the added equipment associated with the sport.   And tennis and SB basically go year-round what with off-season programs.

I think the article writer may have provided inaccurate info.  The drawing posted at the start of this subject shows "tennis lockers" only.  No mention of softball.  I think the idea is to have restrooms for both but locker space only for tennis teams. In any event, it is hard to say from the drawings exactly how many lockers are involved.

72 is correct.  The facility is for Tennis, but the restrooms will be available for softball as well.

That's why it didn't compute.  ML's release was much more accurate and that's why I questioned it.

Here's the lead-in line to the article from the NWI Times:

Valparaiso University hopes to break ground soon on a building to house lockers and restrooms for the softball and tennis teams.

We on this board know how imprecise statements get you into trouble.   :banghead:

It should have been something like:

Valparaiso University hopes to break ground soon on a building to house lockers for VU's women's and men's tennis teams and restrooms for softball and tennis spectators.
