Let's title this No Let Down. This game first.
We are on a roll, have the revenge motive and will be at home so I expect to struggle (freshmen will see expanded minutes) but win.
Is this a trap game? Coming off a nice couple wins and right before a top 25 team visits your court?
Valpo by 11, 79-68.
My concern as well. Senior leaders need to remind team there are NO easy games.

I neither expect or necessarily want this to be an easy game.
Playing a short 6 man rotation is highly dangerous so going all out for a quick kill looks like a fools errand which could backfire. Time to take the calculated risk of playing freshmen for expanded minutes, with the understanding that a hole might develop from which we might need to emerge. The groundwork for our season ending goals will require additional foundational preparation. Looks to me like Ball State is an ideal place for this to start and if not now then when?
We lost to Ball State by three last year, and I'm sure that will be fresh in the minds of the upperclassmen and coaches.
I'll take Valpo by ten.
Watched Ball State play SUU at the middleweight final Wed afternoon. I think we can handle them. They will be challenged by our defenders

I also hope the freshmen start playing a bigger role in the rotation. After hearing so much hype from insiders like pgmado and vu72, I was expecting a little more. I'll remain patient and trust that Coach Lottich will bring them along at their own pace.
Valpo by 15 over BSU.
A challenge to be over come. Time for the younger players to grow. AP has been sick beware! :-[ VU 77 BSU 72
Here are the current season stats for the cards

Tayler Perkins (19) and Franko House (16) ppg
and their Roster:

and I'm sure someone will know if Doudou is a relative of Moussa. Hasn't played much after transferring from South Carolina State.

Somehow that makes me less comfortable, not more. We seem to have trouble with frequently played in-state opponents.

I'm sure that all the players from last year will remember the sting from last year and how it affected their chances at an NCAA at large bid. If they think like that this game has huge meaning.
After Bama and BYU, this team is learning about themselves, and what it takes to get better.

Ball State will be better than we may think that they are.
Coach Lottich will try to get a deeper player rotation going, but will again have limited success.
Peters and Hammink will step up and extend the lead late.
Valpo 77
Ball State 68
Darn spell check. I corrected it using only my left hand in honor of Shane's fine play.
How can this team continue to play so poorly at home? Awful.
thankful for Lexus. A couple three's and several steals. Good thing Ball St. is not in the HL....
The other Cardinal I'm afraid might start on a shooting streak and hitting a load of threes is Weber from Roncalli in Indy. We better get Peters going before that starts.
Seems Peters gathered the team for an inspirational talk during halftime warm up. Good to see him mentoring the team.
House is killing us in the paint. We need a big!
On a positive note, we can shoot free throws well.

SMITS!
The team simply out worked a good Ball State team!! ;D
Workmanlike win. Peters couldn't get his shot going, but (as usual) found a way. I think that he again leads the nation in made free throws. Really nice to see Williams game continue to improve and nice to have a Smits sighting. First time Smits looked like he knew what he was doing and was in position most of the time. Big game for Valpo on Tuesday.
Good to get that win. Great 2nd half. Will the ARC be full Tuesday?

It shows classes start tomorrow on Monday, Nov. 28. My guess would be yes. We won a heavyweight belt for gosh sakes. It's time for someone to wear it at the game and show it off.
When was the last time Valpo hosted a ranked team at the ARC, outside of Butler?
Quote from: vu84v2 on November 27, 2016, 03:36:27 PMReally nice to see Williams game continue to improve
For the season he now has 19 assists vs 9 turnovers. That ratio isn't overpowering but his calm judgement, ball control, shooting and quick hands make him look like a 4 year starter which in some respects he mentally is. To this point he has been my most pleasant surprise just like he was coming out of nowhere as a freshman. Last year made me doubt that he could do this but I love to be proven wrong.

Someone may argue.. but I found the 2006-07 matchup in the ARC with #9 Marquette...(we lost 65-62)... you can ask Tom Crean about it... come to think of it, this is probably not a good week to bring that up.
I thought a ranked SLU came to the ARC and escaped with a buzzer beater win. I could have dreamt it...

SLU was tops in the A10 that year. Opposite of this year.

SLU was ranked that season, but not until after we played them. They broke into the Top 25 (coaches poll) for the first time in in Week-12 (20th). They were ranked as high as 8th (week-17), and finished 25th.
Purdue in the gray uniforms, 2010. Then we lost at Toledo the next game in the grays and never saw them again.
Another nice win! With the wins in Vegas, any chance Valpo starts getting Top-25 votes again this week or does that happen after a win over URI?
I think Lexus played as well or better than Keith Carter, at least in this game. Smits was obviously very nervous and missed a few point blank shots--that will improve and possibly quickly.
As for Alec, I wonder if he new status with more scoring and rebounding on his shoulders has left he beat up or just worn down when it relates to his three point shooting. Those shots aren't all short or all long, they are missing in various ways which might be because he is trying to do too much. If Jubril continues to play like he did today I would think Derrik will earn more minutes.

That's false. I distinctly remember those jerseys being framed and presented at senior night a couple years later.

2010-11 season, 'dem Boilers beat us 76-58 (and Toledo on the road 75-72)... and we snapped out of those uni's and beat IPFW by 16.... but back to the question at hand... I don't know if Purdue was ranked when they came to the ARC. We had already been blown out by Kansas earlier that season.

That darn Marquette game, where Dominic James hit a 3-pointer from near mid-court to win.
Lest we forget, the Butler Bulldogs came into the ARC ranked in their first run to the NCAA Tournament championship game:
2/26/10 – Butler at Valparaiso
Teams 1st Half 2nd Half Final
BU 30 44 74
VALP 31 38 69
Butler Completes Unbeaten League Season Senior Willie Veasley scored a career-high 20 points and Butler pulled away in the second half to hand host Valparaiso a 74–69 setback and become the first team in Horizon League history to finish with an 18–0 record. The win lifted the #15/10 Bulldogs to 26–4 on the season.

Nope, that game did not exist. Jared Lloyd did not air ball the front end of a one and one.
