Valpo Basketball / Game 5 : Trinity Christian 11/19/15
November 19, 2015, 10:46:25 AM
Just to say we had a game thread.  ;)

Ratcheting it up a bit from IUK, the Trolls are 4-2 thus far in the season.  They also played yesterday against NAIA nationally ranked  Olivet Nazarene and came up short 89-65. This was also the Trolls' first conference game.  Tonight's game will be an exhibition for Trinity.

Valpo will continue to build up the W column in all likelihood, looking to take a 5-0 record out west.

Valpo Basketball / Game 2: Valparaiso vs. Iona
November 14, 2015, 03:52:55 PM
Great mid-major game on tap for tomorrow! Will the Crusaders come out strong with the momentum of Fridays final minutes? Or will the early season cobwebs continue being cleared out? Most of all, will class of 2011 grads like me finally be able to move on from the 2011 CIT game!?! Crowds can be hard to come by on Sundays, here's hoping for a great atmosphere and another Valpo victory!

Valpo Basketball / Student Section of the Year Voting
January 23, 2013, 06:39:03 AM
Hey Friends,

Remember years ago when ESPN took votes to see where the best college basketball atmosphere in the nation was; and thanks to an intense ballot-stuffing campaign Valpo ended up 9th?  Well, we have another opportunity for some ballot stuffing for those who are Facebook savvy with the Naismith Awards: student section of the year award.  Valpo broke the top 25 last night and is now up to #23 in votes.  If your on Facebook, follow the link and vote for the ol' Brown and Gold once a day until Feb 6.  If nothing else, it's some bragging rights and a way to embrace our competitive sides, right?

Valpo Basketball / ESPN Rivalry Week 2013
August 23, 2012, 10:24:52 AM
It seems that our new HL rival has been determined for us by ESPN.  I can't really disagree that there is animosity between Valpo and Detroit...but it just doesn't sound as good to me as Valpo vs Butler  :-\.  I guess Valpo vs Detroit has a nice "opposites styles" kind of theme to it with Chemistry vs pure skill and mild-mannered vs egocentric match ups.

I still would like to see Milwaukee become a heated rivalry.  Who do you think our new HL rival should be?

Valpo Basketball / NIT Time!
March 07, 2012, 04:15:32 PM
This is my attempt at helping us to move forward and away from last night's...events.  I know that the venting will continue (and should as it needs to)  but I for one don't want to keeping logging in and becoming angry by what I read.  Right then:

As the banner on the top of the screen indicates, Valparaiso University Men's Basketball is now setting their sights on the NIT post season tournament.  In my 5 short years of fandom, this is the highest level of postseason play that a Valpo team has been in, which is exciting!  Hopefully, this year's team will get up for the tournament and not write it off as a "PB&J tournament" as one former player from last year dubbed the CIT.  So, what kind of seed will VU attain? Who are some potential opponents?  Can we win a game or two?  What about the whole thing?

Valpo Basketball / At the Halfway Point...
January 21, 2012, 05:12:15 PM
This year, much like last, we turn the half mark in the HL year at 7-2.  Last year we lost game number nine to GB at the ARC.  Overall, we were 15-6 (7-2) last year opposed to 14-7 (7-2) this year.  Only a one game difference, and yet, I remember being more confident last year and the team having a higher rpi. Maybe 1st place was a newer feeling last year OR maybe I'm my excitement was really built up after beating Butler in game 10.

How do y'all feel about this year vs last at this juncture in the season?

Valpo Basketball / Andy Katz's Video about the Drews
November 07, 2011, 05:05:26 PM
Can be found below.  (Not sure what's up with the gap)

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=7204356&categoryid=2459792

It will apparently be aired at halftime of tonight's game ESPN U...but is all over Facebook.  Thought I'd share it.

This is really a touching video.  Homer as always been a public figure that I have respected and tried to
emulate in my faith life and as a professional in the workplace who is under the public eye frequently.  But
more than anything, if I can someday be such a devoted and loving father and husband as Homer, that would leave
me satisfied with my lot in life; even without a 600+ win NCAA DI basketball legacy.  And I suspect that the same is true for
him and his family as well.

My continued prayers go to the Drew family, their example of faith and perseverance is really inspiring.
