Love Fran however I think he's "too soon" with this take. This was posted the same day Gonzaga announced the signing of 3 of the better transfers in the portal. We're unlikely at the end of the talent pool in the portal particularly for non elite programs.

Fran: "Not to say that there aren't good players still left in portal."

End of the benchers transferring from a high major programs are often not that good. Kind of a crap shoot. The really good ones get snatched up quickly by other high major programs.

One of the best things about Coach Powell's bold, oversized vision and goals for the MBB program is that he's indirectly telling us that he's not planning on bailing on Valpo at the first sign of success. I dearly hope that's true. I was ready to settle for a promising candidate who regarded VU as being the next rung up the ladder.

One of Valpo's previous head coaches was bold and said something to the effect that we don't just want to make it to the final four, we want to win it. He did that and more at another university. Powell seems to have that same boldness and fire that Scott had.

Ya get the feeling Powell wants nothing to do with a Virginia-style offense?  😂

How Nielsen Sports Is Changing the Game of College Recruiting

https://frontofficesports.com/how-nielsen-sports-is-changing-the-game-of-college-recruiting/

QuoteWhile NIL deals are changing the stakes for student-athletes, Nielsen Sports is changing the whole recruiting game. Their newest innovation, the Nielsen Impact Score (NIS), quantifies the marketing value of each major athletic program in the country, equipping college coaches with a powerful new tool to tell their school's full story to recruits around the country.

The Nielsen Impact Score is a marketing value index built from Nielsen's best-in-class proprietary audience data that compares college athletic programs along three key inputs: National Exposure, Local Market Impact, and Social Media Engagement.

With one clear ranking metric, athletic programs can tell prospective student-athletes a clear success story while standing out from rival programs that recruit from the same region or vie for the same on-court accolades. The Nielsen Impact Score rankings provide greater context for comparing schools while providing athletic departments of every size and scale with a cutting-edge platform to reach high schoolers, junior college players, and college students entering the transfer portal.

When two teams face off on the floor, the final score is the only metric that matters. But when it comes to recruiting, it's all about telling the right story to a student-athlete who is eager to shine both on and off the court.

The NIS helps settle the score between schools, provides the data to translate potential in value, and gives every program in the country a powerful new opportunity to tell a rich, complete story. Success breeds success, and the NIS helps schools lay a foundation for future star players to build a winning program.

Will mid-majors be interested in this? Anyone else have any insight about this metric, a quantification of the market value of competing universities? Duke has signed off as a partner in this endeavor. I'm not sure this will ever get off the ground. Interesting idea though. Big boys will likely be the firstest with the mostest regarding participation if it takes off.

Dee Brown, played with Powell at Illinois and With Jazz.

5 years at UIC. Valley experience.

Known name in region.

Valpo assistant is surely a pay raise over HC at Roosevelt

Well, Powell did bring his favorite players/coaches with him. He posted this on Twitter:

It seems obvious to me that Powell is going to hire who he wants, select people who he already knows, and is not checking the fan board for recommendations.

There is no real estate listing or sales record of Luke selling or listing his home. So unless he sold it for cash to someone off the street, He and his family is still there.
Quote from: historyman on April 11, 2023, 07:44:55 AMI've heard through rumors that Luke Gore has sold his house, almost immediately, and is looking for employment in other areas of the country.

I'll be making some phone calls but won't be able to name sources.

Carson would be a really interest Coach to add to the the staff as a special assistant to the head coach. Carson has a lot of head coaching experience to advise Roger. He's also a Region native and very well connected to the NWI coaching circles for recruiting...
