Valpo Basketball / KemPom Preseason Rankings
October 17, 2022, 03:19:26 PM
Wasn't sure where to put this, so thought I'd start a new thread.

KenPom preseason has MVC rated as #12 conference, behind CUSA and ahead of the WAC.  Valpo checks in at #216.  The entire MVC is as follows:

Drake   79
SIU     90
Bradley 124
Belmont 125
NIU     126
Murray  129
MSU    134
ISUb   135
ISUr   215
Valpo  216
UIC    272
UE    337

Valpo Basketball / Sigurd
February 23, 2020, 01:13:22 PM
I saw a tweet before last night's game that Sigurd was out for the rest of the season.  Then I saw this tweet from Osipoff.

[tweet]1231371813432840193[/tweet]

It would be a shame if he doesn't get the redshirt because he played 9 minutes against ISU (19th game of season, so in second half of schedule).  Also, I'm sure the Valpo staff knows the medical redshirt rules, so they knew (or should have known) the possible consequences when they played him.  I assume they thought he was healthy and would be able to play the remainder of the season.

Around the Valley / Evansville Staff Turnover
August 04, 2019, 01:34:28 PM

I see that two assistants have left Evansville over the last few weeks.  Lickliter retiring and Graves moving to a non-coaching position at Xavier.  Anybody know what's going on down there?

Saw this on the MVC website ... love the national exposure the university will get from ESPN broadcasts!

I was waiting for someone to start this, but I guess I'll go ahead.  Here's a quick overview from the website ... http://www.valpoathletics.com/mbasketball/news/2014-15/14076/what-you-need-to-know-valpo-mens-basketball/#.VFpVD2d0yfA

I'd be surprised if Nickerson is 100% since he was just recently cleared for practice.  I'll say the starters are Fernandez, Peters, Adekoya, Carter and Walker (hedging my bets with that one).  Everyone will likely get plenty of playing time, since these games are usually pretty one-sided.  I'll also be watching closely to see if Hammink plays or not ... he's the wild card that could take a good team to a great one.

*(Post modified to correct game date ... I don't want to take the blame if the game doesn't sell out).  ;)

On The Horizon / 2014-2015 Horizon Predictions
August 28, 2014, 10:38:17 AM

Apologize if this has been posted elsewhere, but noticed UWGB appeared at #84 in the College Sports Madness 144 countdown.  http://www.collegesportsmadness.com/article/9651

It lists them as #2 in the Horizon, so who gets listed above them?  Early predictions from last spring had CSU as the favorite, but that was before Forbes left.

As usual, the Horizon appears to be wide open.  Seems to me that UWGB, CSU, Valpo and WSU should be the upper half, but I couldn't begin to predict an order.  Thoughts?

Just ran across this and thought it was pretty interesting.  Based on 10,000 computer simulations, Valpo wins the league 48% of the time.  Fun read for the guys who are into that sort of stuff.

Valpo Basketball / Four games in 8 days?
December 10, 2012, 09:07:12 PM
I just glanced at your schedule and noticed you've got a brutal stretch of games coming up.  Luckily, none of the opponents are particularly challenging, but the travel/rest could be an issue.  The worst appears to be the game at Oakland, which takes place less than 48 hours after the game at Missouri State.  Having Dority available will help limit minutes logged, so the schedule may not be an issue.

I'm curious if anyone knows travel plans for the road games?  I assume the team would fly to MSU on Friday and then fly directly to Detroit on Sunday for the Oakland game ... is that the case?  Not horrible, but seems a tad aggressive coming on the heels of finals week.

One positive is that Oakland shouldn't have many students on hand for Monday's game since they'll also be done with finals.  It likely won't matter, as Oakland has only one D-I win this year.

Valpo Basketball / Post-Tribune Coverage
November 07, 2012, 08:55:16 AM

This may be old news, but it appears that Michael Osipoff ( @MichaelOsipoff on Twitter ) will be covering Valpo basketball for the Post-Trib.  Here are two contributions:

Valpo Basketball / Exhibition Game vs St. Joseph's
October 26, 2012, 09:56:16 AM
Shouldn't be much of a test since St. Joe's is picked near the bottom of the GLVC, but was wondering what you guys are expecting?  I think everyone knows what to expect from the returning guys, so I'll be interested to see what Capobianco, Fernandez and Rossi bring to the table.  Predictions?
