Sadly, setshot is no longer with us. He passed away in September of 2015.

Unfortunately, the full obituary is only available for a fee now.

Thanks ML2. I had a a feeling that might be the case. He was quite a character that I only knew from this message board and its predecessors. He liked to stir things up. Never knew his name.

QuoteNot sure if you are serious, but I'll take the bait!  Dana Shaw is Homer and Janet's daughter.  She is married to Casey Shaw, former NBA player and current Vanderbilt assistant coach.  Dana was an All-American at Toledo and MAC POY twice. She is also a lawyer and Bryce's agent.

You're welcome Valpo89. If you want to know more you should ask ml next time you see him. They exchanged calls/emails a few times I think. Not sure if they ever met in person. setshot was an alum - class of '57 - and obviously cared a great deal about the University and the basketball program.

Is he related to Porter Moser, the Loyola MBB head coach?

Some very gaudy numbers as a head coach, surprised that he hasn't had another stint as the head man.

Summary of Coaching Experience

2006-12 – head coach, Alaska Anchorage women's basketball (150-31 record) 82.9% winning percentage
2004-06 – head coach, Otero (Colo.) JC men's basketball (41-18) 69.4%
1998-04 – head coach, Otero (Colo.) JC women's and men's basketball (women's - 137-41, men's – 131-50) 77%    72.4%
1994-98 – assistant coach, Eastern Wyoming men's basketball
1993-94 – assistant coach, Southern Utah men's basketball
Three-time GNAC Coach of the Year (2008-09, 2010-11, 2011-12)
WBCA Division II West Region Coach of the Year (2008-09)
Coached GNAC Player of the Year from 2006-09 and in 2011-12
Coached two Division II All-Americans
Coached three Division II All-America Honorable Mentions
Four-time Region IX Coach of the Year, women's basketball (1998-99, 1999-00, 2000-01, 2003-04)
Four-time Region IX Coach of the Year, men's basketball (1998-99, 1999-00, 2002-03, 2003-04)

Tim Moser enters his sixth season as an assistant coach with the Colorado State women's basketball program in 2017-18
Colorado State has made huge strides since Ryun Williams has become head coach and bringing Moser on his staff.

Moser has spent his years at CSU cultivating recruiting ties in the US and overseas and getting that "D1 experience" in preparation for a HC gig.  He is ready and will make some AD look very smart for hiring him.  While coaching D2 in Alaska I believe his record vs D1 schools (at the Great Alaska Shootout) was something like 9-3 beating school like Syracuse and Cincinnati to name a couple.

Here is another CSU name: Becky Hammon.  She removed her name from consideration for the CSU Men's HC position.

I know this is a vote for who we would like the next coach to be but....

I feel if we land a coach that stresses fundamentals (especially on the defensive side of the ball)!
Use the players abilities that you have - there are some athletes that can run the floor on this team
they never pushed the ball. Women's hoops is 75% transition. Play selfless ball (easier said than done) -
there are a few girls on this team that are more worried about their stats than wins. That needs to STOP
immediately.
Darrow and her clone Rees continued to throw out the same lineup day in and day out the last three years or so
with the same result. They never changed anything and expected different results.
Bring in a good coach with a previous winning record (or assistant at a winning D1 school) stressing fundamentals,
they could probably get this team to 4 or 5 games above .500 in a year or two. They have some talent they just
have not had good coaching.

Incredibly quiet on this front. Were we waiting on the completion of the tourney to chase someone involved?

Most schools wait to announce till the news cycle slows down.

Interestingly there were 20 women's vacancies and only 4 are filled while there were 49 men's vacancies and 36 have been filled.

Tracy Dorow's hiring didn't get announced till April 23, 2012

Here is the thread about the coaching search and her hiring if anyone cares to see what people thought about the hiring back in 2012: http://www.valpofanzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=780.25

Interesting read and no negative comments on the hire.  Also interesting to see posts from StlVUFan, LaPortAveApostle and Setshot.  We know Setshot has passed but do wonder about the other two.

I never knew LaPortAveApostle but StlVUFan is still very active on twitter at @StlVUFan. He's always keeping up with the team. I guess he doesn't get on the forums too often anymore.

Yes, StlVUFan is active on twitter - not sure why he hasn't posted on here since last July.

LAA took an absence after his second child was born.  He sometimes still logs on to read the board, but has not posted in three years.

StlVUFan still posts on here.  I know this, as every time he posts, I just have to bring up his man love for Greg Kampe :)

Lots of D-1 background at different levels of D-1.    Sounds like a good hire.
