General VU Discussion / Valpo Law School reference
October 11, 2014, 05:09:42 PM
Shields Up! Saw the movie "THE JUDGE" and there is an unflattering character in the film that refers to himself as being a Valpo Law School.grad. Not a good referral for the Law School or its graduate. But then again,IMO, Valpo Law is second rate. Anyhow, you be "The Judge." >:(

0-2 to open the season. The ex-bulldog has now become a puppy or is it a p---y? Regardless my prediction is that the Celtics will have a regular season record of between 38 -42 wins. Any other predictions?  :P

Valpo Football / Valpo vs. San Diego
October 26, 2013, 04:20:28 PM
After San Diego's big win over Butler, I expect they(SD) will be over confident about flying into Valpo and facing the mighty Crusaders. So, I predict that SD will only beat Valpo by 4 touchdowns. SHIELDS UP!  ???

General VU Discussion / Bach Institute/Thrivent:
October 18, 2013, 09:53:00 AM
Have not heard much about  Valpo's Bach Institute,is it still in existence?I just transferred my "Choice Dollars" from Thrivent to Valpo. I trust many of you have done the same thing.GO VALPO!

Valpo Football / Valpo @ Mercer:
October 05, 2013, 02:11:12 PM
Mercer will have a long trip home from San Diego and that trip should play to Valpo's advantage. Mercer's loaded with kids from football rich Georgia, but most had never left the state until the SD game.Still, though wide eyed and travel weary I'll pick Mercer by 30+ points.  BOOK IT! :'(

General VU Discussion / Pay Scale's College Salary Report
September 13, 2013, 07:20:05 PM
Pay Scale has ranked most of the USA's college and Universties on the basis of average starting salaries for recent college grads and then mid-career earing levels. Valpo ranks #395. Average starting salary for VU grads is $49,500. Mid-career earnings are $76,200. Really bad. Check out the info. on Pay Scale. Makes you wonder...why Valpo? >:(

General VU Discussion / USA TODAY: 2014 College Rankings
September 10, 2013, 07:47:50 AM
VALPO has slipped to SIXTH place in the 2014 MW Regional rankings. WHY?
The top six schools in order are:
Creighton
Butler
Drake
Xavier
Bradley
VALPO

We all know that our football team is an embarssement, now we have slippage in our academics. OMG! :o

Sports Talk / Big 10 Lacrosse
June 04, 2013, 10:02:00 AM
Read where the Big 10 will be initiating Lacrosse programs for both men and women in 2014-15. Good. Also Johns Hopkins will be joining on a Lacrosse participation plan only. Bad! JHU's academic reputation will take a hit by associating with the Big 10 schools. What a bummer. :-[

Valpo Basketball / Nate Silver's Tournament Forecast
March 18, 2013, 02:32:27 PM
The NYTimes Nate Silver has listed his picks: To win it all Silver has Louisville at 22.7%,Indiana 19.6% Florida 12.7% Kn. 7.6% and Gonzaga at 6.1%.

In the first round Valpo is given a 17% chance of beating MSU,where as Butler is a 62.7% favorite to beat Bucknell. Interesting. GO VALPO!
#23
A recent article in the NYT (01-10-13) indicates that tuition dependent schools and lower rated universities are in d.s.As Moody's indicates, lower family incomes is a major reason for this decline. So, D3 for athletics is the way VU should go. D1 athletics are too high a price for VU. Wake up VU. D3 is the way to go. NOW! :twocents:

Sports Talk / D3 football playoffs
November 19, 2012, 06:52:47 PM
Two schools that are near and dear to me (JHS,did graduate work there, and Wittenberg, one of my kids went there) are playing in the2nd. round of the D3 football tournament. Witt plays at Hobart and the Bluejays are at Mt.Union. Easy win for the Tigers, but poor old JHS will have its hands full. Now if VU played at the D3 level maybe ------------ oh hell it will never happen. Go Tigers and Bluejays!

General VU Discussion / Valpo's Golden Years: 1950-1959
November 08, 2012, 12:00:17 PM
I just received a copy of "The Honor Roll of Donors - 2011-12" from Valpo. The gift giving is impressive (both my wife and I contribute by class). For the 2011-12 year the "Golden Oldies of the 50's" contributed over $10,000,000 to Valpo. Wow! Also, during the 50's we had a winning football teams. Can any other decade beat that?

My point is that those of you that attended Valpo during the 60's,70's,80's,90's and beyond need to get on the stick. You won't match the 50's in football wins, but you can surely beat us in annual monetary contributions to Valpo. Go for it!

Valpo Football / Campbell Fires Football Coach
November 06, 2012, 03:37:54 PM
Campbell U. has fired Coach Dale Steel amid a 7 game losing streak. He is 14-39 overall at Campbell and 9-29 in the PFL. ML,please take note.

Valpo Football / Little Three/Pathetic Three
November 04, 2012, 06:54:51 PM
Out East the "Little Three"are known as Williams,Amherst and Wesleyan. Good schools academically and D3 sportswise. Now Valpo,Davidson and Campbell have an opportunity to be known as "The Least Three." Currently the three teams are last in this week's Sagarin ratings. So, if Valpo, after its win over Campbell beats Davidson,we will be Champs of the "Least Three." Wow! let's go for it. Hail Crusaders, fight Crusaders ----------- and then,DROP FOOTBALL ;D

Valpo Football / Valpo vs. Duquense
September 09, 2012, 09:20:32 AM
Duquense by 20+ over Valpo. The "Dukes" are ranked #184 by Sagarin vs. #244 for Valpo (we move up two slots thanks to Davidson and MVS). I have a wish to make to the Valpo football team: "Win one for the " Griper" (not Gipper),me! Be it next week against Duquense or in the future against Butler,Davidson or whomever, just win one. Thanks!

Valpo Football / sagarin ratings
September 04, 2012, 12:01:14 PM
Even with Savannah State's hugh loss to OSU, Sagarin ranks them ahead of Valpo. At #246,ole VU is again DEAD LAST. Will we remain there for the rest of the season? Hope not,but that may well be. :-[

Valpo Football / Football: Valpo vs. St. Joe
August 26, 2012, 07:07:15 PM
Although I'm hoping for a Valpo win,i'll predict that St. Joe beats Valpo by 10+ pts. If so, Valpo will be lucky to win a game this year. Should VU beat St. Joe,look for a 2-3 win season. Let's hope for the best. Go Valpo!

General Off Topic / Indiana is Dead last!
May 03, 2012, 02:03:02 PM
Connecticut has just passed a law to allow the purchase of alcohol on Sundays. Ct. is the 49th. state to do so. The 50th state, the one that doesn't allow Sunday alcohol sales is - - - - - you guessed it _ INDIANA! What a backward state. :snore:

General VU Discussion / Greeks!
May 03, 2012, 01:37:04 PM
I understand that the Phi Delta Theta (KIP) chapter on campus is being renewed. Good for them. Now,what is the status of VU's premier fraternity,Theta Chi? Can Valpo's Greeks survive much longer without a Theta Chi presence? Probably not,"So here's to Theta Chi my brothers, may you always be the best fraternity, and we'll all guzzle CV  as we shout Delta Xi,here's to good old Theta Chi." Bring 'em back! :)

General VU Discussion / Enrollment Info.
May 03, 2012, 12:36:19 PM
NYT (5-03)issued a report from the Nat'l Assoc. for College Admissions (NACAC) that a large number of college are still seeking students for the 2012-13 school year. One of the schools listed is Valpo. The VU person to contact is David Fevig. Q: Are we in trouble, enrollment wise, for the next school year?

Valpo Basketball / Women's Basketball Coach
April 04, 2012, 10:48:24 AM
Any word on Keith's replacement? A few of the old alums here in SC are speculating that Dana Shaw will get the job. All in the family you know. Seriously, any word yet? :-\

February 14, 2012, 07:32:50 AM

General VU Discussion / Valpo,Gettysburg and Ron Paul
January 14, 2012, 01:20:02 PM
Met Ron Paul at a "Meet the Candidates" event here in the Lowcountry. Although I'm not a supporter of his,we did talk about his under graduate days at Gettysburg College and my undergraduate days at Valpo. He knew our school, but was particularly interested in the athletic successes at Baylor U.including Football, women's basketball (#1),and Scott Drew and men's basketball (#4). Small world.
#47
Other Sports / A bad weekend for Valpo sports:
November 27, 2011, 08:22:16 AM
VU loses 80-47 in Mbb,we lose two in Wbb (Co 60 -VU32,MT.State 71 - VU 55) get shutout in Volleyball (0-3 to W. Michigan) and we are still ranked # 246 in football. Phew. It maybe that we are over our heads in playing D1 sports. Anyhow, something needs to be done to turn our sports programs around (I'm sure seventy poo would agree). Should we go D3,drop football, fire the AD,get new coaches or what?
#48
Sports Talk / Hopkins Blue Jays
November 15, 2011, 03:04:35 PM
This is really not a part of the topic, but I did have to mention the Hopkins Bluejays. 10-0 in football and participating in the NCAA D111 tournament. Hope they can beat Mt. Union or Wisc.-Whitewater. Damn, wish we (Valpo) were there too. :twocents:

Valpo Football / Still #246
November 13, 2011, 08:10:24 AM
Even with our first win in 30 games,Sagarin still ranks Valpo at the very bottom of the ratings chart - #246. A win against mighty Davidson (#243) could change our standings. Hell, we beat Campbell (now ranked #216),so why not Davidson. Go Valpo!
#50
Still ranked dead last at #246. Remaing games are against two North Carolina teams ranked #206 (Campbell) and # 243 (Davidson). Hell, we will probably lose both,go 0-11 for the second year in a row. 0-31 over the past three years and rank dead last at #246 in the Sagarin poll. Way to go Valpo, first in the hearts of your alumni, but dead last in the Sagarin poll. Everybody loves a loser, except ME!  Drop football!
