Well, I figured somebody's got to do it.
Want to get psyched? Try the last two meeting recaps, but be mindful of Paul Oren's astute observation that the only two Crusaders to have played more than 4 minutes during the last 2 meetings are Vashil and Alec (!)
2012: http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=323640093 (http://espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=323640093)

Takeaway being if it's close late, don't sweat it--we got this.
I hope.
Flip a coin.
I remember the 2012 game...that furious road comeback. Also known as "the day Ben Boggs saved the...day".

Then last year, when they were looking for payback...nothing doing. Jordan Coleman our high scorer? Yes he was.

MEM'RIES...
Nice scheduling by MLB and Bryce to get a tourney with a group of 3 teams like this. Sounds like a nice drivable family venue too. Wish we could be there.
The teams there sound like mid-range RPIs like most Horizon teams. I think that's a good level for us to play early and develop timing.

Too bad more Valpo fans didn't make the drive.
Portland currently beating up on Drake 28-15 with 6:43 left in 1st half.
EDIT: final Portland 71-59.
Spread: Murray State -3
Valpo 71
Murray State 62
Boy this would be a nice game to have video for. Sounds very exciting! Also sounds like a very angry Kentuckian crowd.
I've never seen a coach as livid as Prohm was at the ref in a long time. He literally was ready to tear his head off. He had to be held back by one of his asst coaches in a wrestling hold.

So did the ref call it correctly?

No doubt in my mind it was the correct call.
Ok, who had Valpo 93-58?? Holy crap lol.
Wow.
93-58.
It might be time--pending tomorrow's result--to ponder whether we might in fact be really good THIS year rather than to wait for next.
Well that was fun.
Definitely encouraging, but we won't shoot the lights out like that every game.
Always nice when Davidson and Chadwick, aka the "human victory cigars", come in with over 5 minutes left in the game.
Will there be highlights or a video of the post game conference online somewhere?
Watched the Murray State @ Xavier game earlier this month and thought this would be a really tough game. Despite losing by 27 on Xavier's court, I thought their transition game, speed and athleticism could give us problems. Never would have conceived of this outcome.
Murray States Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgRiardQKYMCOd5ikF1FeJA (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgRiardQKYMCOd5ikF1FeJA) had an interview and highlights of the Portland game from yesterday. Maybe they will have something up later about this game.
It'll be about 15 seconds long, I'm guessing.
How was Darien Walker still available in, what was it, June??? We signed him so late that I remember thinking, "Great, we get a Junior College guard that nobody else wants, why even waste the scholarship, if he was any good somebody would have already picked up on him".
I am starting to come around to the idea that we might be pretty good THIS year. That said, we are not going to be able to shoot 3 pointers like this every game, and I am still a little concerned with where we will get our scoring when the 3's are not falling. I will be interested to see how the team reacts, against a quality opponent, when the outside shots are not falling.
We might find out tomorrow.
But we would have won today even if the 3s weren't falling. I mean, it was 35 points...
A lot of hopelessness and desperation over on the Murray St board. Maybe somebody should go over there and try to talk them back away from the edge of the cliff. Don't know if I am the best qualified for such work as I have spent most of my life as an instigator. ;D

I am confused - Murray state had a TV feed that looks and sounds like production quality ... Why can't we watch somewhere?
Watch "Murray State vs. Valpo Highlights" on YouTube
Murray State vs. Valpo Highlights: http://youtu.be/9qT5GMdmZQc
Of course, all the highlights came from the first half. Sorry, missed the game last night due to work, but from the article posted earlier, sounds like the first half was when the highlights happened. In terms of the video thing, did Aaron not have the time to upload some highlights, or would Bryce not allow him to post any video highlights?

I talked to one of the cameramen at the Municipal Auditorium yesterday and he said they didn't have the facilities to broadcast the games live. I told him that I'm sure Valpo & Murray St fans would have paid to see the games. I told him how much the average Valpo fan was missing live feeds of the games. I'm sure for future Challenge in Music City events they will look at doing live feeds. Unfortunately that doesn't help with this year.
Looked back at Murray State's history, goes back to 2003/04 season, and last night was their worst loss (35 points) since as far back as their stats go. Pretty impressive to hand a team it's worst loss in at least 10 seasons.
Comments from the Murray State board:
I am sorry to say this, but this is fact...When you look at Valpo's athletes and then looked at our guys..different level. They were bigger, stronger, quicker...period! We have NO size and our guards are all thin.
Also, Bryce Drew can flat out coach!! Great offensive movement, great cuts, and GREAT shooters with size!
Double our bigs and it eats us up, our bigs can't pass. Does Prohm adjust? Nope. They go to zone D and eats us up.
As Prohm said tonight, we have one player who has more than one year in the program.
Not sure if he realized it, but Prohm could have been speaking about Valpo the same ;).) Vashiel is the only Crusader with more than 1 year in the program, followed by 5 guys with 1 year, and 5 completely new players.
Valpo is good, better than us. I think that anyone there tonight would have to admit that.
Valpo shot the ball really and had wide open looks. They had excellent ball movement.
Players looked gassed in the second half. Hope we are not out of shape. Response: They're not in bad shape, they were psychologically beaten before the 2nd half started. During warm ups after half time I told the guy sitting next to me that they looked disgusted and ready to go home.
You would think that after the MIRACLE season, or at least within two years of the miracle season, recruiting would have been at its maximum potential...I just don't see it. Valpo's athletes were different...stronger, bigger, quicker, and some pure shooters.
Very interesting video named "Things Get Chippy Between Valparaiso and Murray State" www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUbucoxR-t4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUbucoxR-t4#ws)
This certainly explains the language heard in the background of Todd's broadcast!
What the video doesn't show when it pans to the crowd was Prohm having to be restrained by his asst coach when he went after the ref who made the controversial call. If you notice the MSU angry crowd that was heard on the radio broadcast was sitting right behind Todd Ickow. It was fascinating how Prohm's reaction really infuriates the crowd into a bigger frenzy.
I sat near the loud month fan (who yelled "you're horrible" at the refs as they left the court at halftime) at the Portland/Murray St game and he was just as loud mouth at that game.
That is Prohm yelling at the shorter ref, who he went after during the controversial call, as the teams left the court at halftime.

What else besides the score tells you the game was a blowout?

Are you referring to the unused timeouts?

That's it. I don't know if I've ever heard of a game with 6 unused team timeouts.
From what I've read, since I missed this game, had MSU used any timeouts in the second half, Prohm would have probably been tossed for arguing calls from the first half.
Prohm used a timeout three minutes into the second half.
Murray State has won 13 consecutive games since their 93-58 loss to us on November 29th. They are 15-4 for the season and 5-0 in the OVC.
