I just became extremely sad. :(
So a 50/50 shot at the title just went down to a hope and a prayer.
Most disappointing year in school history.

Valparaiso star forward Alec Peters' career is over, source told ESPN. Has a stress reaction and will not play rest of season -- even if Crusaders get to NCAA tourney.

I'm assuming he meant his college career is over? Terrible journalism there.
KC, Scara, Jubril, and now AP. This makes Trey Lewis and Anton Grady leaving CSU look like child's play.
To whoever wins the tournament (if not Valpo) - you're welcome!

Thanks for 4 great years Alec, sadly I think this was always going to be his only move. He has a bright future...too bright to sideline over the HL tournament.
Are we sure he'll be out for the Sweet 16?
So assuming a MCM loss somewhere, still have a good shot at CIT or CBI. Be a nice chance for Shane to be showcased and give the young guys another couple of games to mature.
Still, this is so f&&$ing disappointing.

Wouldn't expect the season to end any other way at this point....this will always be the season that could've been....
After what the NCAA did to the program as far as Keith Carter and Jubril Adekoya go, why put forth the effort and risk further injury (and lots of money) for a tournament sponsored by the NC double a**holes?
Best player in valpo history and we go 0-1 in the ncaa tourney in that time..

NCAA selection committee screwed us last year and then $%#^ed us this year again with Keith Carter & Jubril rulings.
Alec won't even get the opportunity this season to make a postseason run.
Man we've received a raw deal the last 12months. About time were due for some luck.
Nice of the Valpo MBB beat reporter to finally confirm what I reported a week ago w/r/t stress fracture ::)
Also: This #^*%ing sucks. But hopefully he's healthy/reliable enough that this doesn't hurt Peters' draft stock, he's got a lot of potential ahead of him yet.
Thank you Alec

So i'm voting we don't even make the trip to Green Bay next year. Two years in a row season altering injuries have happened up there.
Graduated 2 really strong player..
Lost 2 really strong players to NCAA decisions..
Lost 1 really strong player to transfer..
Injury to best player in program history..
Lost 2 great coaches to Vandy..
Obviously it is very easy to focus on the negative, but lets not forget about the positives. This has been a GREAT season. We only lost 4 conference games, and we had 3 very good non-conference wins. 3 of the better non-con wins in recent memory. Still by far the best RPI in the HL and we far and away scheduled the best non-con schedule and performed the best of any school in the Horizon in the non-con. Even with graduation and the Carter/Skara decisions, we were still REALLY good in December. Obviously this is not that team, but we are still solid.
Other positive takeaways. We are going to be a lot better next year having gone through all this. Lottich learned a lot this year. Tevonn will be a star and the freshman all got big minutes. They should take a huge step forward next year. Oakland/NKU will be 1 and 2 next year, but I think we can fight UIC/GB/WSU for 3rd place. Not bad after a season such as this.
I bought tickets for Motor City Madness. A few friends and I are still going. Lots of complaining about the tournament format. Everyone needs to quit complaining and go watch this team. Win or lose.

Alec Peters is a class act. It's too bad it ended early but I enjoyed the show while it lasted.
We will get to see him play in the NBA! First rounders get a two year guaranteed deal and a bunch of money. Best player to ever lace them up for the Brown and Gold and well deserved.
Great guy and great player. On to the NBA. He lifted his teammates when many in his position would have hogged more shots.
We won the road against Wright State with our current cast. Win it for Alec and Jubril and go to the dance, guys!
We need two big games from Sorrola in the semis and finals assuming we reach semis. He is capable.
This will be interesting, and definitely the correct decision by Alec. I am sure that he would have played had he been cleared with a stress reaction versus a fracture. Fantastic player to watch, and a great individual overall.
I don't hold out high hopes, but we did see that our guys can step up and play with the best teams in the HL away from home. We still have a great shot at winning the HL tournament with our current cast. It is incredible that we are able to say that with what we have gone through with Keith Carter and Jubril Adekoya, and now Alec Peters. We beat Wright State on their court and only lost by 4 at NKU without these key players, so we can do it. Anyone who says that we have no chance, did not watch those 2 games, where we took both upper-tier HL teams down to the wire. No other HL team would be able to do such a thing without their star players, as we have shown that we can do. Even when times are bad, it is good to be a fan of our quality program :).

I'm a little surprised they've made such a definitive statement. Is it to help the _team_ move past it?
You'd think there would be an advantage to keeping other teams guessing, albeit it could be very distracting for Valpo too.
I'd have been very pleased to see him suit up for the HL final, or an NCAA game, etc. at least for the "head game" aspect of it.
And, it does seem odd to take him off the table in the event of some kind of deep post-season run. Probably he _could_ still come back, even now. Maybe they'll surprise us sometime in the pre-game.
Surely he's planning, or at least hoping, for the NBA Draft Combine May 9.
He's done. People in the athletic department have known he was done for several weeks. Time to move on.

There were grim prognoses circulating before the official announcement. But, he scored 23 points 10 days ago! If someone knew something several weeks ago, I'd love to hear the story.
And, I'm at least curious about the strategy vis a vis public announcements, and definitive announcements at that. Seems ripe fodder for fan discussion as we wait for the games to begin.
A stress FRACTURE is a minimum of 6 weeks - that takes it to around April 5th. March Madness final is April 3rd. My son sustained a broken fibula (small long bone) playing soccer and that too was 6 weeks once he was immobilized. If the tibia (large long bone and the one that supports the full weight) is the one affected, depending on the severity of the stress fracture, the healing period would start at 6 weeks and possibly be more.

So, yeah. No one is allowed to wear 23 anymore. Period. It's cursed.
What a unique way to retire an number :)
Who's going to wear #25 in the Horizon League Tournament?

Everyone. On their shoes and warm up t-shirts. just a guess

Lets put it to best use. Encase it under glass and prominently display it in the visiting locker room.
Didn't Smits have a stress fracture in the foot that kept him out all of last year?
Stress Fractures can be tough to pin down even with X-Ray and MRI. It's possible, if not probable, that Alec and the team knew he had a stress reaction for some time while the Fracture was not confirmed until a few days prior to him sitting out. This may explain, in part, Alec's dad being so feisty regarding the Jubril situation.
Watching the championship tonight, this still hurts.
He was exactly the kind of player that could have put this team on his shoulders and made a Sweet Sixteen run.
As much as I hate the NBA, I wish him the best.
