As my screen name would indicate, I'm a Valpo fan in Portland, OR.  This year there is a huge basketball tournament to celebrate Phil Knight's 80th Birthday.  Two 8 team brackets, played concurrently: First round on Thanksgiving, Second round on Friday and Championship on Sunday.  I was thinking of catching 1 session (2 games) on Thanksgiving.  Which session do you all think would be best?

1A: Portland State v. Duke and Butler v. Texas
1B: Portland v. UNC and Arkansas v. Oklahoma
2A: Florida v. Stanford and Ohio State v. Gonzaga
2B: UConn v. Oregon and Michigan State v. Depaul

Based on what I've seen on the Montana website, single game tickets go on sale late July with first dibs going to alumni club members.  Does anyone know if Valpo will get an allotment of tickets that can be purchased through VU (I'd rather pay money to VU than Montana  ;D)?

Valpo Basketball / Thank You
March 31, 2016, 10:10:12 PM
I'd like to reach out and thank all of you for the existence of this message board.

In the NIT final tonight, it looked like the Crusaders were feeling the intensity put out on Tuesday night against BYU as most of their shots were missing short and the feet weren't moving quickly enough on defense.   However, in retrospect, following this team all season has been one of the more enjoyable fan experiences I've had.  It seems that all of the players had a role on the team and fulfilled it to the best of their ability.  The offense usually had some rhythm and despite the occasional complaints on this board, the coaching was/is high caliber.

As an alum living in the Portland, OR area, there's not many colleagues who are geographically close who share my affinity for Valpo.  So finding an outlet such as this board was great—even though I don't know any of you personally.

I'm not much of an off season/recruiting nut—but will return when November rolls around to partake in the fun that is the basketball message board.  All the best to everyone and remember that every day is a great day to be a Crusader!

Now that we're 5-0, I'm looking forward to seeing my Alma mater play live in the state I reside in.  Any Crusaders coming to 1 or both of the games?

Valpo Football / Potential Violation or Crummy Research?

Great story about a kid from my high school.  But the last paragraph is a little disturbing--the PFL may want to look at this.

Valpo Football / A Super Bowl thought...
February 02, 2014, 05:05:54 PM
I'm sure all of the viewers on this board are watching the Super Bowl.  While you watch, consider for a moment the future of Valpo football.

Assuming Cecchini's credentials hold true to form at VU, he will most likely be on to bigger and better things after winning a few PFL championships and getting to the second or third round of the FCS tournament.  So that means, Valpo will have a hole to fill in about five years...who better to fill that role than Peyton Manning?!

Just a random thought...Happy Super Bowl and HAIL CRUSADERS!

Valpo Football / Valpo-Vanderbilt Connection
January 23, 2014, 05:57:48 PM
What is the connection between Vanderbilt and Valpo?  Other than they both start with Vs and are full of intelligent students, they now both have coaches on their football staffs that have Lehigh experience.

I pulled the article below off of a Stanford message board.  It reports that among the staff that Derek Mason is bringing to Vanderbilt is ex-Stanford and Lehigh assistant David Kotulski.  While this doesn't directly affect Valpo, it definitely speaks to the caliber of Lehigh and should give all of us Crusader football fans assurance that (a) we got a good coach and (b) our AD is running in favorable circles.

Hail Crusaders!
