I watched the 2nd half of Oakland's last 2 games.   They are talented, for sure.  However, I don't think I have ever seen a team with worse shot selection.  If they had some discipline they could have won both of their last two games.  Against Northeastern they shot so many 3's from 5 feet behind the line or on the move without their feet set.  It was crazy.

while UCLA losing to Oregon hurts KY's rating a little, I think it helps us more in that we played at Oregon.

In other news, DePaul lost by 3 to Nova. Why should we care? DePaul played UIC...and
Lost...DePaul blew out Chicago State...and beat Mo. state at home barely and then lost to them on. A neutral court by a bunch. So a split. A gsme like this helps their RPI which helps their opponents as well.

bbtds

Chicago State lost by only 4 to Northwestern. Try to figure that one out.

ValpoDad89

And speaking of MO State, they beat UNI in Waterloo 68-64 tonight. Nice con Road win!!! This stuff isn't going to improve us dramatically but helps at the end of the day. Without hope what the hell do we have???

talksalot

and our RPI fell only 12 points.  Playing #252 Chi-State; and we have #254 UIC on Friday.  ..

Other OOC games:

Oregon 89 UCLA 87
Wichita State 80 Indiana State 72
Missouri State 68 Northern Iowa 64

(Nebraska beat IU)...

talksalot

#157
If you need something else to fee! Better about, Oregon 84 undefeated Southern Cal 61... that's 23 points... they beat us by 22.  just sayin'

Ducks first team since 2004 to beat back-to-back teams that were 10-0 or better.   (they beat UCLA on Wednesday)...

Duck RPI jumped to #11.

BTW, did you notice that BYU beat Santa Clara by 30 on the 29th?

vu72

Just watched Rhode Island drill St. Joes by 30.  The very knowledgeable announcer, in talking about Rhodys early season tough losses, said that very few understand how difficult it is to win on the road at ValparIso!!   :o
Season Results: CBI/CIT: 2008, 2011, 2014  NIT: 2003,2012, 2016(Championship Game) 2017   NCAA: 1962,1966,1967,1969,1973,1996,1997,1998 (Sweet Sixteen),1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2013 and 2015

talksalot

and that Rhody game was slightly off-set by the 100-90 loss Ball State suffered at Kent State....  but out RPI did climb from 58 to 57 when that was posted.

Be a nice win if Bama can hold their 12-point half-time lead at Mississippi State (9-3).  Not holding my breath.
and BBN is playing their first home game since Valpo... and is dismantling Texas A&M 28-8 at the under 8 media time out.

Wednesday action:

South Carolina State at Coppin State - Eagles Giving 1
Indiana State at Southern Illinois - Salukis giving 1
Oregon at Washington - Ducks Giving 8
Missouri State at Illinois State - Redbirds giving 9 (seems like a lot to me)

and fun ones to watch...
Nova at Hinkle... cats are 1.5 point favorites... on FoxSports1 5:30pm CT
Auburn at Vandy...'commodores are 5-pt favs....on SEC Network at 6pm CT
Iowa State at Baylor...Bears at 7.5 pt favs... on ESPNNews at 7pm CT

talksalot

and it took 'bama 8:15 to lose the 12-point half-time lead... tied at 42.

vu72

Bama wins by 10 on the road and Kentucky?  Currently beating Texas A & M by nearly 40.  A & M is no slough, with have a half dozen top 100 players and the Texas Mr. Basketball on the squad. I think our loss will not be a big detriment by the end of the season.
Season Results: CBI/CIT: 2008, 2011, 2014  NIT: 2003,2012, 2016(Championship Game) 2017   NCAA: 1962,1966,1967,1969,1973,1996,1997,1998 (Sweet Sixteen),1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2013 and 2015

justducky

With their 42 point loss at Kentucky, Texas A & M has its RPI drop from 108 to 95.  Nothing succeeds like failure.  ???

I was beginning to wonder if BYU and Alabama were ever going to raise their RPIs to respectable levels. Finally! BYU 111 and Alabama at 88. Both should show some additional improvements.

talksalot

and with those two wins (bama and bbn); valpo's RPI goes from 56 to 55 (raw number .5822 to .5843)... a couple of road wins tonight in the MVC would also be nice for our number.

talksalot

and fun ones to watch...
Nova at Hinkle... cats are 1.5 point favorites... on FoxSports1 5:30pm CT   ButFutler beat Nova 66-58

Andy Katz tweet:   ESPN Senior Writer
Can't say it enough: Big East hit a home run with additions of Butler, Xavier and Creighton. Winners. Atmosphere.

Auburn at Vandy...'commodores are 5-pt favs....on SEC Network at 6pm CT   Vandy skinned the tigers 80-61
Iowa State at Baylor...Bears at 7.5 pt favs... on ESPNNews at 7pm CT          Bears up 1, just starting second half.

and after the first round of finals... Valpos numerical RPI fell:  .5842 all the way to .5841

Missouri St with a 2 point halftime lead on CSN. As poorly as they played against us, I am having some difficulty understanding their recent success. AND this game is at #39 Redbird Arena.

Wednesday action:

South Carolina State at Coppin State - Eagles Giving 1 - Break up the Eagles!  75-59 win for Coppin State.
Indiana State at Southern Illinois - Salukis giving 1- Syc's fall apart in OT, lose to SIU 80-74
Oregon at Washington - Ducks Giving 8 - and winning 83-61.  22 point win... sounds familiar
Missouri State at Illinois State - Redbirds giving 9 (seems like a lot to me)...another OT loss... 74-71 Birds, as MiKyle McIntosh scored 21 points, Deontae Hawkins had 20, Paris Lee had a double-double.

and fun ones to watch...
Nova at Hinkle... cats are 1.5 point favorites... how bout them dogs?  66-58... Bears new #1?  (goes to Georgetown on Saturday)
Auburn at Vandy...'commodores are 5-pt favs....Commodores 80-61
Iowa State at Baylor...Bears at 7.5 pt favs... "with the fans chanting #1 #1... 65-63 win for Baylor

Coppin and Oregon wins and the two MVC losses.. and the Valpo RPI stays at 56 with a numerical down to .5840 (from .5842 at the start of last night)

Friday Action, only 9 games on the D1 schedule:

Valpo-Oakland is the second game on the ESPN2 double header; lead-in is Rhode Island (10-4) at Dayton (11-3).
UDM @ UIC 7pm
Milw @GBay 7pm

I saw this tweet from ESPN's Jeff Goodman:

Interesting note: Baylor and Gonzaga final two unbeatens. Played each other in secret scrimmage in preseason. Final score: Tie.

and this one a little earlier:
Look at who is here at Gonzaga-San Francisco game. Committee chair Mark Hollis. Grinder. He's heading to BYU-Saint Mary's later tonight. Saturday doubleheader: UC Riverside at Long Beach and Hawaii at Irvine. Sunday doubleheader: Stanford at UCLA and Cal at USC and then home on red-eye. Good thing NCAA is paying him big bucks for this gig.

(OK, now who on this board would not LOVE that weekend schedule?... and VIP treatment at every stop)

Couldn't help sense a sombre demeanor in Matt today.  Not upbeat, serious.  Few smiles.  Expectations getting to him a little?

On the plus side he called today's practice the best in a while.  He cited the rash of turnovers and he's getting the guys' minds straight on that.

I like his candor.

.5563, Down to#78

Drake pounds Indiana state 87-70
Most beats Evansville 55-51
