Title: Season Predictions
Post by: bsmith21 on November 01, 2016, 01:26:54 PM
This is a post for people to post predictions. The more concrete the better so we can look back and see how wrong we all were.

I personally think we will breeze through the Horizon League season with 2 losses, and win the tournament. I think we'll beat Rhode Island but that win will look less impressive as the season goes on, but lose our other chances to get a ranked win. We end up getting an 11 seed and lose a close game in the first round of the tournament.

We're going to go 36-0 beating Butler in the elite 8, Baylor in the final 4 and Vanderbilt in the NCG.

Yeah, of course.

26-8 but we win the HL tournament because we are the team that takes out the #1 seed in the HL championship game. Then we surprise a #3 seed in the first round of the Big Dance by being the team that we all thought we would be at the beginning of the year. We then lose an O.T. game to a very tough #6 seed.

Walker and Hammink both wind up on SCTop10 with silly dunks at some point this year.

In the 32 games on the schedule we finish with a 27-5 record.  We win HL tournament and receive a 9 or 10 seed into the NCAA tournament.  We win one NCAA game, and lose a close game.

We lose 12 but make the Big Dance as an at-large because "Valpo gave Kentucky and Oregon good games, so Valpo must be good."  In college bb (as in most of life), perception outranks reality 99% of the time.

Playing Oregon close didn't work last year. Perception and reality don't matter. Irrelevant statistics like "quantity of top 50 rpi wins" and "being in a power conference" are what really matter to the selection committee.

Predictions:

* We lose to Oregon and Kentucky. Instead of complaining about beating a "BCS team" people bring up not being able to beat a ranked team.
* Bryce Drew ends up back in the NIT, where he interviews for other jobs while his team is still playing.
* Peters does really well and will score more because Lottich maximizes possessions and use him a ton. He's drafted.
* Smits doesn't start because Jubril plays great.
* Hammink doesn't play point guard - thank god.
* We lose 3 conference games.
* We lose a maddening game in the conference tournament after winning the regular season.
* We argue a ton how we deserve to be in the tournament as an at large
* NIT.
* People complain a bunch about the ARC.
* People complain a bunch about the Horizon League and try to compare it to the crappy Summit League.
* Our UWM fan loses his mind at least 12 times about YSU.
* Great first season for Lottich
* "Head Coach Luke Gore"

25-7 in the regular season with three losses in the HL and four non conference. I think that the team will struggle for consistency at the PG for some time and this will lead to two problems: too many turnovers and difficulty getting good looks for Peters. This will translate into losses against Kentucky, Oregon and Rhode Island - plus one other inexplicable loss. However, the team will get more solid as the season goes on despite a few setbacks in conference. It will win the conference tournament and then get a #13 seed in the NCAAs. Whether they win that game will be dependent on the matchup.
