Recogntion for Rowdy

Losing what's his name, who was an amazing shooter, will clearly put pressure on Dunham to fill the void.  I read somewhere where he was 0-11 in one of their games.  Feeling the obligation to hit the three?  Who knows.  He'll be fine, as he is a very good player, once the season gets underway.

How can you forget Rotnei Clarke?

Rowdy made the team and today the Boomers beat Butler 96 to 57, Rowdy hit 12 points in 15 minutes of game time.   

Fantastic!  I don't suppose there's a box score?

Huge props to Rowdy on making the senior squad again!

I wonder if they're going for a somewhat younger, forward looking squad against a not-overwhelmingly-strong New Zealand team?  An 18 year old, a 17 year old, Bairstow from UNM, Rowdy, etc.  And still Patty Mills, of course.

In any case, a great honor for Ryan - and very exciting to see him continue his development with the Boomers.

Momentum appeared to be shifted in the Australians favour as the opening period came to a dramatic end, with Ryan Broekhoff making a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give the visitors a 21-18 lead.

A limited role, but good to see him in the rotation.  And, can still hit a buzzer beater!

The Boomers came back from a 2nd quarter deficit to notch a 70-59 victory.

They host the All-Blacks  (er, Tall Blacks) on Sunday - I think it's probably shortly after midnight Valpo time.  It's on TV - so a live stream seems like a possibility, but perhaps at an awkward hour.

Looks like New Mexico's Bairstow managed to foul out in less than 9 minutes!  (Assuming 5 gets you out in the international game.)  While otherwise recording only a defensive rebound and a missed shot.

It seems like Rowdy's playing, for Besiktas.  In the starting five for a Cup game on September 18.  Presumably in a win (what's this? a double-elimination cup?) on September 19. 

Maybe the league starts October 11.

They seem to often call him Breokhoff.  The Turkish reports are more current, and more detailed.  But, you have to translate them.  And google doesn't love this one...

Broekhoff started on the 20th again, it seems.  And his name is mentioned in the report several times.  A one point loss.  But, I can't quickly discern much more than that...

Ryan apparently playing his first pair of league games. If I am reading the box scores correctly, he scored 5 points and had 1 rebound in only 8 minutes on the court in game one; scored 2 points and had 2 rebounds plus an assist and a steal in 17 minutes of the second game:

I think one's a Turkish league game, and the other a Eurocup game (European competition, instead of Turkish).  I suppose in soccer even that "Euro_cup" game would still a "league" game, not a "cup" game.  Just a "Champions League"/"Europa League" type international league.  Anyhow, thanks for the links!  Nice to see things are getting started.

Using a Dutch passport probably helps them count him as an EU player, not a foreign player.  I believe most European leagues have a limit on foreign players.

He may be eligible for a dutch passport, might have been eligible to play for the Dutch national team (before appearing for the senior men's Australian team - though I'm not 100% what competitions count), etc.  I think that may well be on his father's side.  His mother might perhaps have Dutch ancestry as well, but she comes across as Australian in person!  Neither Dutch nor Australian presentations a bad thing for sure, I have friends from both places, but not so similar!

Looks like Ryan rode the pine against Galatasaray, probably one of the tougher teams in the Turkish league.  But, in the Eurocup games he's playing "first-off-the-bench" type minutes, 17 and 19 per game.  2-3 from long range helping to a career-best 9 points last night, with three assists, a steal, and a rebound.  Besiktas just squeaked that one out, 72-70 - maybe a confidence builder they needed after a slow start to group play in the Eurocup.

Any bench minutes are good minutes for Rowdy.  We have to remember that he is a Rookie, and some European leagues have really good competition among their top teams (Turkey is one of them).  It isn't NBA-level, but he will still have to work for his minutes this year.
