Lots of offers out today. Twitter has been active all day.

In Div. 1 non-scholarship football, if a school provides an offer, what is overall value besides the confirmation that the school wants the student to play football? Has the student been admitted automatically. Is there any compensation of any type? Is there a definition of a walk on player?

Interesting question(s). A couple of possibilities: 1. The athlete has already applied and been accepted, the scholarship financial package has been awarded and the "offer" just means they are wanted on the team. 2. The "offer" is subject to being accepted as well as the athlete accepting the proposed scholarship package. Clearly these players are not paying full sticker price. Very few students do. As for walk on players. I suppose there may be an "open tryout" period, but unlikely for football as there are just so many slots and lots of equipment involved.

I have seen twitter posts where players are reaching out to coaches with their stats and a tape, so my guess is many of these players are well aware of Valpo and have expressed interest prior to any "offer".

The offer is definitely hinged on being admitted which has not occurred at the point of offer. There's a general check to see if the athlete would likely qualify. A kid ranked 380 out of 400 is probably not getting an offer no matter how good he is. A kid ranked 20 out of 400 is probably getting an offer is he has decent ability at least at some point.

Offers are simply that the coaches want you to play football at the school, kids still need to complete FASFA process, be admitted, or simply be wealthy enough to afford the school

Cecchini did a solid job checking those boxes in recruiting. With 50+ newcomers it appears Fox has as well. In terms of this offering period it's what coaches call "the first wave" or top prospects. Very few non scholarship schools hit on these.

There were indeed walk ons during my tenure. Would try out during spring ball. A few made roster in fall but many didn't. People have to remember our players are still all state, all conference type athletes

I Know i have done primary recruit posting since 2015, if someone would like to spearhead the operation this year, life has just gotten too busy. I nominate IndyValpo. I'll have the depth charts up once I know more about the upcoming season

Didn't want to start a whole new thread for this.  Can our punter be a pro?

Reads like a recruiting service deal for HS kids. That being said, would be interesting to see if a specialist from Valpo could pull it off. I mean the skill is so narrow that it really doesn't matter much where you played college ball, etc. Seemed like a good get for Valpo when he come in last year.

Greg Wood went to mini camp with the Bears during my tenure, got a helmet , made a grand or two, was sent home before Friday.

Could he have been named for the 4th edition of the famous video game?

Is the Pioneer League playing this Fall?   No Patriot League or Ivy, so probably not.

This story from the Pleasanton Weekly in Pleasanton, California shows that in 2009 John Madden ended his broadcasting career and lived in Pleasanton along with his two sons.
