Anyone should feel welcome to update this thread. I travel a lot for work and sometimes can not update the thread. I'm just trying to keep it simple with Horizon League teams. I've decided to avoid the Drew brother's games simply because it takes more time which it seems I won't have as much as I would like.

Once the Valpo game is over don't forget the Oakland/Nevada game starting now in Anchorage. Who needs sleep?
In Oakland's tourney loss to Nevada, 82-78, OU had 4 starters playing over 30 minutes, one at 33, 2 at 38 and one at 39. Apparently they are not very deep.

Probably the reason they wore out and gave up the game in the second half. Although Nevada did play a much better 2nd half in that game. The loss can't all be attributed to Oakland not having a bench.
I listened to the postgame from the OU game, and Greg Kampe did take blame for not subbing out. He knew he should have subbed out, but he didn't make it happen.
so, let's see how the HL is making out today... lots of action:
going on now:
NIU 48 - UIC 42 starting the second half in DeKalb
finals
Canisius goes to 2-4 with a 90-84 win in Youngstown
Manhattan's Jaspers go to Calihan and beat Mercy 84-81, in the "pre-season NIT Tip Off Campus Game"
Panthers (now 2-3) did eke out a 54-37 drubbing of the Anteaters. UCI (3-3) had 18 in the first half and 19 in the second.
CM Chippewas go to the Resch Center and come out with the 89-77 win
Coming up:
Grizz at Great Alaska against UC Davis (5-2)
No Dakota (3-1) heads to the Nutter (4-1)
NC Central (2-2) heads to Highland Heights (3-2)
Saturday HL Finals:... 3-5 on the day
NIU 92 - UIC 81
Canisius goes to 2-4 with a 90-84 win in Youngstown
Manhattan's Jaspers go to Calihan and beat Mercy 84-81, in the "pre-season NIT Tip Off Campus Game" (Double OT)
Panthers (now 2-3) did eke out a 54-37 drubbing of the Anteaters. UCI (3-3) had 18 in the first half and 19 in the second.
CM Chippewas go to the Resch Center and come out with the 89-77 win
Grizz 79 UC Davis 66 - Nice Win! at the GAS
Raiders 83 No Dakota 79 - Nice Win! at the Nutter
NoKey loses at home to NoCC 82-74
Top Performances today?
YSU's Santiago... 23 pts, 11 rebs
UIC - Dixson..... 31 pts (14-20 from the line)
WSU: Davis 23 and Benzinger 22
GBay's Cooper and NoKy's McDonald with 20 each
almost a great Triple-Double in that NoKy game.... unfortunately for the Norse, it was ...Patrick Cole scoring a career-high 32 points and also had 10 rebounds and eight assists to lead North Carolina Central.
With Wright State still "too close to call" in the second half...(up 7 with 7:30-to-play at home against North Florida), Alstork... has 5 points.
the first two miserable results are in:
South Dakota State dismantles UWM 81-58 in a game that was not as close at the score would indicate
Duquesne keeps Cleveland State winless on the road 78-71, in the "Bluegrass Showcase"...which of course is played in Pittsburgh, in front of 887 people.
In case you missed it, game scores are listed next to game times in my post above. Nov. 21 to Nov. 27.
The bottom 50% of the HL looks to be historically bad. Valpo/Oakland/Wright State look solid. Green Bay/UIC will probably be good by the end of the season, but that doesn't do the league any good right now. Everyone else is just....

Thanks... the edited version did not appear in my "latest postings" filter......
I see the final Box Score of the Raider game shows Alstork with a very uncharacteristic 5 points, 7 rebounds and 5 turnovers in 32 minutes. That will bump Alec ahead of him in the weekly stat report
Points Per Game
1 Marcus Keene CMICH 29.6
2 Mark Alstork WRIGHT 25.8 (falls to 22.3 after today)
3 Alec Peters VALPO 25.5
4 Peter Jok IOWA 25.3
5 Dikembe Dixson UIC 25.2
Even though RPI doesn't matter at this point in the season, it is starting to shape up regarding the non-conference portion. The HL is 18th, while the Summit has returned to mediocrity at 25.

Scott Sutton looks a lot grayer, Kampe looks as mad as ever. The Golden Grizzlies lead by 6 with about 6 minutes to play. Renewing another old Mid-Con/Summit rivalry.
EDIT: Blow out by Oakland as the Kampe kids end the 1st half on a 13 point run, up 19. Oakland wins the 2nd half by 9 and the game by 28.
I'm sorry, but watching Oral Roberts (RPI 278) lose is still one of my favorite passtimes...
So, here are their losses this year:
Baylor
Ole Miss
Loyola-Chicago
Montana
Tulsa
Oakland
and about to:
@ Michigan State Saturday
@ Oklahoma Wednesday
and a D3 "John Brown Golden Eagles"
followed by @Missouri State and @Creighton
Their win...
Rogers State Hillcats, by 11.

Wright State losing to Penn State by almost 25 late in the second half.
Which only goes to prove that the Penn is mightier than the Wrighter.
EDIT: Looks like it will be more than a 25 point win.
Just saying...... Oakland is 7-1 as of last night.
Check that: 8-1 after beating SUU today.
Green Bay eked one out on the road at Toledo 78-77 in Overtime. Hitting just enough free throws; and a good defensive stop with 6.2 seconds to play in the OT keeping the Rockets from getting off a shot.

UC Davis

It's not the schedule Valpo is playing with Oregon, Kentucky and Rhode Island but I'm not exactly sure it is "weak weak." They used to play one of the toughest OOC schedules in the country and got chastised for it too. What is a mid-major to do?

As long as they beat the crappy teams, it's fine. They don't have an at large caliber schedule, but they aren't at that level, so it's not necessary. The beef was with Wright State, who would always have a crappy schedule AMD lose to teams like NC A&T at home, or Oakland who would schedule 5 or 6 unwinnable ooc games on the road.
I'll be happy if Oaklands RPI ends in the top 100, something which they haven't done since joining the horizon.

Pray tell, why in the world are Horizon League teams still playing cupcakes this far into the season? These games should be first or second game matches. Could it possibly be that this is the only way for some teams to get wins?? ???
Rest some injuries that have been nagging around the holidays, after some hard battles in November/December, and for some, confidence going into the holidays and the start of Horizon League play.

It's not like we're looking down a murderer's row of opponents going into conference season. Indiana St., Santa Clara and Chicago St. have win probabilities of 80%, 86%, and 97%.

It's not the schedule Valpo is playing with Oregon, Kentucky and Rhode Island but I'm not exactly sure it is "weak weak." They used to play one of the toughest OOC schedules in the country and got chastised for it too. What is a mid-major to do?
RPI Strength of Schedule wise Oakland certainly has a change in philosophy. They are currently 7-1 but their SOS is 351 leaving an RPI of 203.

BTW - related to this: Northeastern just beat Michigan State this weekend.
Green Bay beats SIU-E in Wisc this evening by 2 in OT.
Kerem Kanter from Turkey and brother of NBA player, Enes Kanter of the Thunder, scored on a jump hook with 4 seconds left to seal the 2 point win.

UIC had their best non-conference win of the season after Dixon goes down with injury for the season by beating Northern Arizona by 10. Tai Odiase had 24 for the Flames. 2 Freshmen and a red shirt freshman also contributed 28 points collectively in the win (Boahen, Ottey, Matthews) as the Flames burned down the forest on the Lumberjacks (come on, that was so easy).
The Crusaders better have their fire retardant armor on for the match up at the Pavilion on Dec. 30 Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m./4:00 p.m. EST/CST. This season will ring hallow if we lose so early to UIC.
UIC was stagnant on offense at the start, though it didn't last. Odiase muscled his way to five early points, but the Lumberjacks led at the first timeout, 8-5. The Flames sent in four fresh bodies to compete alongside Odiase and the second unit delivered. Dominique Matthews erupted for 11 points in a row to turn UIC's deficit into a 15-10 lead with 10:52 remaining in the half.
The score was later tied at 20-20 with 7:39 to go in the period after NAU's Jordyn Martin scored inside. On the next possession, UIC's Ferguson canned a 3-pointer that set off a nine-point run spanning just over two minutes to build a 29-20 lead for the home team.
Northern Arizona outscored UIC, 12-5, over the final four minutes of the half, but the Flames maintained a 34-32 lead as the teams retreated to the locker room at the half.
Still nursing a two-point lead with a shade over 16 minutes to go in the game, an acrobatic layup by Marcus Ottey launched a 14-1 run that was capped by a 3-pointer from Kyle Guice with 11:38 remaining. Guice's triple gave UIC a 50-35 lead, its largest of the game to that point.
The passing remained crisp like when Ferguson fed Odiase who slammed home the pass for two of his 24 points with 7:32 to go.
A few minutes later, Ottey took off through the trees for the dunk of the day, off another pass from his classmate Ferguson. That jam put UIC ahead by 17 points, 64-47, with less than five minutes remaining.
UIC's lead reached a game-high 19 points with 3:19 left in the contest when Michael Kolawole netted two of his seven points.
Northern Arizona trailed by 18 still with 64 seconds to go, but the Lumberjacks scored 10 unanswered points in the final minute, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer that fell in off the glass.
uh.... NAU is 2-10 with an RPI of 331.... their only wins are over #341 and #335... not a quality win at all!... the Flames best win is #221 DePaul and #224 CalPoly... They do get to warm up tomorrow night against Roosevelt University.
We should have a pretty nice Valpo crowd at the UIC game which I will be attending!! Right now the Alumni site has sold 182 tickets for the game.
I think UIC is better without Dekembe. They have put a nice winning streak together since he left early in the Depaul game. They will be tough.

Ok, should have said "one of the best." What I was trying to emphasize was that they did this after Dixon was gone for the season.
I don't think that UIC has any chance against us, without Dixson.

Is there a more overrated coach than Greg Kampe? This is why Oakland does not scare me in the tourney. No way that guy can win three games.
Watched the last two minutes of that game. Wow. Some sloppy play by both teams and poor shot selection by Oakland. #4 on Detroit had two boneheaded turnovers while Oakland had a 10 second violation.

Will be a big game for sure. I guess it could put us into a three-way tie with Oakland and Green Bay? And give Oakland the realistic edge on tie-breakers?

I saw the last bit of the first half. I think there was a dunk by each team in the last ten seconds. Blazing fast pace. Very difficult to watch televised basketball on that black court. (ESPN2 no less...)
I don't particularly remember Hogan from the game at the ARC. I guess he is their leading scorer, 15 PPG, 5 RPG. Fouled out against us. 8 points, but did manage 5 offensive boards for 8 total.
His previous career high was this season against Northern Kentucky, 22 points.
Youngstown State and UIC 69-69 with 4:04 to go... Odiase just fouled out. Morse has 30+ again.
in OT, Flames 92-89; Cameron Morse... 40 points for the guins.
This week's POW will be interesting !
I'm guessing Hogan because they beat Oakland on his great game.
(On personal note, I switched over to the Yale-Princeton game. I graduated from High School in that arena.... a long time ago... that scorer's table was my first as a HS Kid intern.

1 point for a road win, -1 point for a home loss. 0 for Home wins and Road losses because you're expected to do those things. Last season we had 7 points. 6 points should win you the conference (That'd be 14-4 if you win all your home games).

Milwaukee having their second overtime game in 3 days had to really hurt their chances of upsetting the slumping Grizzlies. The Panthers' Wichman missed 3 straight FT's with 5.5 seconds left with any one of those misses being a made FT would have won Milwaukee the game.

Here's the current look at the standings. Interesting factoid: We lost on the road to the best home team in the conference and we lost at home to the best road team in the conference. The rest of our road schedule is 10-10 at home and NKU is 3-1. The rest of our home schedule is 4-13. It's not an easy schedule, but it's by no means a murder's row.

UIC beats Stony Brook to advance. Hosting round 2 Monday
UIC is the last HL team standing... 80-71 over George Washington in the CBI last night at the Pavilion, packed in 1,048 fans !
out-shot and out-rebounded GW
Next up... At Coastal Carolina in the CBI Semi-Finals, Wednesday night, 6pm
the Flames boosted their overall record to.... 17-18. They are only 5-8 on the road this year.... the Chanticleers are ... 18-17 ! They beat Loyola-MD in their quarterfinal last night.
UIC's RPI has climbed all the way to #236... CCU is #178. Flames are 3-14 against the top-200 teams... their best road win of the year was at #237 DePaul!
and then there were none. Coastal Carolina 89 UIC 78 in the Semi Finals of the CBI. CCU takes on the winner of Wyoming and Utah Valley in the best-of-three finals.
CONWAY, S.C. – UIC shot the ball well Wednesday night, connecting at a clip of 50 percent from the field and making 11 3-pointers, but the Flames did not have enough firepower to top the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in the semifinal of the College Basketball Invitational presented by FIVE FOUR. The Flames fell, 89-78, at the HTC Center.
UIC's Tarkus Ferguson scored a career-high 27 points to lead all scorers and four Flames in double figures. Marcus Ottey netted 11 points by making all four of his field-goal attempts, while Tai Odiase and Dominique Matthews chipped in with 10 points apiece.
In case anyone is remotely interested.....
UWGB men knocked off Oakland at the Resch last night 80-79.
And in a real shocker, Northern KY beat the Phoenix women in Kentucky by more than a few.
Milwaukee fans seriously ran their mouths on Twitter today bashing our program when they've lost to teams like Concordia St Paul (by 14) Montana State Western Illinois (by 21) and Youngstown State who hadn't beaten a D1 team until league play? Exactly how many MVC games do they think they'd win this year? They wouldn't even be the best Panthers in the MVC. What a sad sorry pathetic fanbase.
Milwaukee sucks. Plain and simple. They had a few good years, but have no pedigree. They can't compare.
Yeah their KenPom rating would be last in the MVC by a good margin.
Only time uwm was winning was when they were cheating.....
Best part is how thin-skinned they are while they accuse us of being thin skinned. A couple of the leaders of their twitter presence could teach master classes in projection and dishing it out while being completely unable to take it. You know what they say... If you can't beat Concordia St Paul Western Illinois Montana State Youngstown State or IUPUI you probably should avoid criticizing other programs.
Gee, I thought this thread was about the OTHER VALLEY CONFERENCE GAMES....I guess you can't tell a post by it's cover.
anyway... how about that bad beat in the UNI-Indiana State game last night...

Loyola pulled away from Illinois State in the last 8 minutes 68-61
In Short
Loyola University Chicago's (13-4, 3-2 MVC) physical defense forced 18 turnovers and the Ramblers earned their first win at Redbird Arena since 1991 with a 68-61 victory over Illinois State tonight. The win is Loyola's second in a row.
How It Happened
Loyola received a huge lift from the bench in the opening period, getting 22 points from the reserves, including 11 from Bruno Skokna. Aundre Jackson (6) and Skokna (5) accounted for 11 points in a 13-0 Loyola run that gave the Ramblers a 23-13 advantage.
After Illinois State trimmed the deficit to four, Loyola rattled off eight unanswered points, punctuated by a three-pointer from Skokna, to bump the lead to 33-21, the largest of the half.
The Redbirds got back into the game, scoring the final seven points of the half to send Loyola into the locker room on top, 33-28.
Loyola led by as many as eight points in the second half but Illinois State stormed back, using a 16-7 run to seize a 46-45 lead with 7:58 left to play. From there, however, Clayton Custer tallied five straight points as part of a 12-2 Loyola run that gave it a 57-48 lead. That advantage would grow to as much as 11 points (62-53) and Illinois State never got closer than five the rest of the game.
A Look At The Numbers
Jackson scored a team-high 15 points off the bench, hitting 6-of-7 shots from the field, while Custer added 14 points.
Marques Townes pitched in 12 points and Skokna contributed 11 to round out the double-digit scorers.
With his first basket of the night, Donte Ingram scored his 1,000th career point. He is only the 19th player in program history to rack up 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in his career.
Phil Fayne led ISU with 14 points.

This is actually the place to talk about HL games. The Space for Valley stuff is called "Aroud the Valley" roughly in the middle of the boards list. Or there are several MVC related threads on the main board.
Just for grins I checked the HL standings as of February 5, 2018. Who would have thought, in November, that this would be how things would be unfolding ?
SCHOOL NAME CONF OVERALL
WRIGHT STATE 10-2 18-7
N KENTUCKY 10-2 17-7
UIC 9-3 14-11
OAKLAND 7-5 15-10
MILWAUKEE 6-7 13-13
GREEN BAY 5-8 10-16
IUPUI 4-8 7-16
YOUNGSTOWN ST 4-8 6-19
DETROIT MERCY 3-9 7-18
CLEVELAND ST 3-9 6-19
Once again, "The King" has talked the talk but can't walk the walk. In their home programs this year they show a poll(not sure of the source, but probably the HL Pre-season thing) showing OU getting around 75% of the vote to win the HL this year. Even though they have suffered some injuries and whatever, with all thsoe seniors and now the Nunn addition, it is another under-achieving year for the Golden Grizz. And every year we keep hearing what a great coach Kampe is. As for me, you can peddle that talk someplace else because I don't buy it.
Battle for First Place February 16 between Wright State and NKU 8PM (I think ) on ESPNU.
Both schools have drawn extremely well this season with Wright State averaging 4101 fans and NKU checking in at 4099\game.
And Kampe still can't believe it. If players and teams "on paper" would win anything OU would be National Champs. He is not even one of the top 2 or 3 coaches in the HL. Every year the story is the same in his case...would of, could of, should of. I believe his team this year was heavy with seniors and they are in the middle of the pack "The King is dead, the King is dead...long live the King."
NKU@Wright State with first place on the line starts at 8CT on ESPNU if anyone's interested.
NKU goes down to Cleveland st. In the Norsemans first game of motor city madness.
This marked the third straight year the #1 seed failed to win a tourney game.
Oakland must be licking their chops. They will beat iupui then play Cleveland state. Perfect path to the championship game.
* in the words of lee corso "not so fast my friends" remember Oakland has won only one tourney game. I miracle win with 3 seconds left....
Really don't want Oakland to get to championship game because that will inflate attendance.
IUPUI 45 - Oakland 42 with 11 minutes left...
Oakland wins by 7, setting up a game against upset-minded Cleveland State.
And King Kampe and Oakland lose in semis of Motor City tourney to upset minded but lowly CSU 44-43. This hometown advantage just isn't working out well for Kampe. [emoji26]

The man simply can't coach. I am not sure they ran a play the entire second half.
If Olympic Entertainment decides to opt out of the 4th year of their agreement with the Horizon League maybe they could send them to Wyoming or Montana for the HL tournament next year. Kampe would love that. They would probably get the same amount of fans and maybe a few real grizzly bears. ;)
Was hoping for uwm to get the upset over wroghtbstate. They were close. Would have been rpi 297 Cleveland state vs. rpi 229 Milwaukee in the championship game.
