Well, I hope Fox gets a OL coach who knows the value of mixing up plays.  Predictability gives Valpo opponent a huge advantage so stop using the same play on every 1st, 2nd attempt.  Mix it up, use the WR/TE to get first downs.  Work on QB improving field vision (makes a difference on broken plays) to capitalize on throwing to whoever's actually open.   Anyway, I'm looking forward to Valpo football, I miss it...  :twocents:

And yet its been proven scholarships is a huge magnet for recruits.  Which means Valpos 7-10% football draw would also increase and increase enrollment across the board.  I hear what you guys are saying and it sounds like Valpo is comfortable with status quo.  But there comes a time when you either move forward or get left behind.   :twocents:

Going up against a bigger, stronger team is an opportunity to use their strengths/size against them.  Sorta like David & Goliath, lol.  Example, if their defense is strong, then focus on going for 1st downs, wear their defense out by keeping them on field by NOT throwing any hail Marys, but rather go for consistent 5yds or more, whether with RB, TE or WR.   When on offense, incorporate plays using players they wouldn't expect, lol.  Football is a mental game as well as physical, outsmart them.   :twocents:

I subscribe to the theory, any team can win on any given day.  It explains why there are upsets, underdogs beating the spreads.

Isn't he the guy who helped set up the games with New Mexico?

mY 2 :twocents:  I'd like to see less focus on RB's (running game) and start using WR, TE to get 1st downs if not TD's.  Why not use short/med plays for solely for 1st downs?  Current QB (Keefe) is doing pretty good job.

Quote from: valpofb16 on October 29, 2023, 05:42:07 AMDifference in the game was their RB Jyran Mitchell who is a standout from Eastern Kentucky. Outside of Davis and some late (maybe garbage time?) touchdowns against Davidson, the offense has severely lacked. 5 rushing touchdowns in a season won't get it done. need next OC to be an OL guy and build there. i just cant see Fox bringing Symmes back.

I like Keefe mobility and field vision.  His ability to quickly scan and spot whose getting open was refreshing.  Valpo looking like a different team.

I'm cautiously optimistic, after all we saw Mikey go scoreless for 3 quarters, then Jackson comes in the 4th and throws 2 TD's to Sol...  So I'm kinda looking forward to seeing what Jackson can do for an entire game.  And maybe see Keefe.  Its not like Valpo has a choice now, so hopefully they can make the best of what they have to work with today.  Go Beacons!

Eberhardt, Appel, Vercher, Jernegan, roughly 1/3 of the top 12 snap getters on O out indefinitely

I think those you listed, will be back better than ever just like Evan Annis did.  His rehab success is a great motivator for others to follow.

I have absolutely no idea anymore.  But I believe Fox knows what he's doing, after all Valpo did pretty good last year! :twocents:

I agree with your summary, need more QB sneak play action passes, shorter routes to insure 1st downs, then maybe the OL wouldn't get so many holding calls.  At some point I'd like to see Valpo back up QB's in action to see if they have good field vision, physicality, instincts.  Valpo recruited them for a reason, it'd be good to see what any of them have in case Apple isn't ready.

Not sure its fair to blame the OL entirely, what I saw was a total lack of field vision from Valpo QB, which would explain why WR, TE are left wide open.  I'm glad they won today, but it was a ugly win against a div 2 team?  Valpo does indeed have alot of talent, its just not being used. ???

I don't get it, why on earth is Valpo using running plays with 3 min left in 2nd qtr, knowing the clock keeps running.   :o

The unreliable snaps were a problem, I agree, but Apple needs to move.  It was cringe worthy watching him get sacked 5 times.  And maybe bring an extra QB back up (have 3 instead of 2).  It was also hard to watch our WR, TE wide open but Apple getting sacked.  We were the better team.

Is this game a "pay per view" by Indianna W?  I ask because Valpo isn't listed on hulu/espn+, plenty of other college games being shown on espn+ but NOT Valpo.  I've searched thru espn+ listing, sports, and just searched Valparaiso using the search feature.   Doesn't appear to be caused by disney/spectrum fighting since espn+ does air a slew of college games.  Any idea?

I don't think Youngstown beat us, more like we handed it to them thru multiple fumbles, blocked kicks, penalties, sacks, bad ref calls etc. in 2nd half.  Youngstown probably went into halftime in shock we were actually challenging them, lol.  I'm optimistic it will be close enough to rattle Indiana Wesleyan.

I was overly excited over first half too, lol.   Then someone popped my dang balloon.  I mean Y made so many penalties and lost their best player CB due to targeting Solomon in first half.  So to come out in 2nd half looking like a different team was disappointing.   If Valpos O line can't block for QB long enough for Solomon to go long, then they need to find ways to go for first downs.  Running game against a larger opponent doesn't seem to work.  Its crazy how Valpo wasn't able to take advantage of Y penalties & losing their CB.  Considering how Valpo got within 7 in first half shows they have what it take! ;)

Its good to have football back!

Well stats say Valpo ran 26 times to gain 40 yrds...  Appel did look good but he seems to stay rigidly with the play instead of taking advantage of whose open (i know he only has 3 seconds or so).  Can't count how many times Vircher/Jernegan were wide open further down the field, yet Apple threw to WR who Pen covered.  Thought 1st half was amazing, then halftime....   What the heck happened?  It felt like our guys were invaded by body snatchers, lol.  I hope Valpo coaches took notes on some of the pens plays, saw them line up 3 WR on right then passed successfully left to their TE I think it was.  Lots to dissect on that game film.  All in all it felt like New Mexico all over again.  Looking forward to next game.  Oh and #8 is a baller, he never gave up.   :twocents:
