That's awesome!

Suffocating defense. Congrats RPJ and the team.

Ultimately, nothing this season is going to matter, and it never was. Powell was hired late so there wasn't enough time to recruit his ideal team.

The purpose of this season will be to teach fans a lesson in appreciating the effort that goes into Valpo basketball, and to enjoy it no matter the outcome.
#4
Those are really good hires!
#5
Very happy with this hire. I did not expect Powell to be a realistic hire, since he was rumored to turn it down in 2016. This was the best case scenario realistically possible. Excellent job by Small.

Yes, I've also noticed a lot of Valpo accounts on here and social media that have "gone dark" over the past 5 years. Unfortunately, that's inevitable during a streak of losing seasons.

There have been coaches who had success, failed and got fired, and got hired years later and done really well after learning from their mistakes. Lowery's success this year as an assistant indicates his arrow is pointing upwards.

He's worked at SIU, KSU, & Northwestern, so his faith is probably unknown to the public.

I'm assuming "news out of Chicago" means Lowery as Evanston is next door to Chicago. There's no one else I can think of that "news out of Chicago" would mean.

Lowery's had success (and failure). He's had a lot of time to learn from that failure. He was just voted Big Ten ACOY. I like him.

Everyone in the B1G has good facilities. By default, someone with good facilities ends up in the cellar.

He was named ACOY this year at Northwestern, another private in the same metro area who is probably the most disadvantaged school in their conference.

He's had both success (S16, 3 NCAAs) and failure as a head coach, but that failure was 12 years ago in his 30s. He's had a lot of time to learn from it.

I think he'd be a very good hire. He's had massive success in this league before and I think he's learned from his mistakes.

No joy in seeing someone fired, but I give immense credit to Padilla/Small for making it work.

Wow!

Yes, that makes perfect sense. Those numbers don't remove the discrepancy in scholarships between schools (tuition, R&B, etc), so the actual $ spent on MBB likely drops us to 12th.

This is my fault since I mixed up the two videos in my head on the previous page when posting, so here's the accurate info after pausing and double-checking both videos in separate tabs:

Men's basketball budget: 10th MVC ahead of UIC & SIU, 180th nationally. That video's on the previous page.

Athletic revenues: 11th MVC ahead of UE for overall revenues. 11th MVC ahead of Murray for non-FB revenues. That video's on the top of this page.
#16
These are the budgets that were uploaded to the government website last week. For MBB (video on previous page), we are 3rd from the bottom. Here's the Athletics budgets, we're 2nd from the bottom:

New MBB budgets are out.

CBSSN still replays the game a time or two every summer.

Last time I watched, it surprised me how empty the Myriad in OKC looked on tv. (I wasn't there - just how it appeared on tv)

Both schools were using their old school logos - Colonel Reb vs our Crusader.

Homer and Bryce will show up for reunions and put on a good face publicly about how great is Valpo, but privately you know they're talking amongst themselves about how big of a dumpster fire VU has become.

I was really confident throughout the season a change would be made after the season ended.

I'm getting really nervous now.

Nearly spit out my drink when someone defended Valpo by saying they thought we added air conditioning.

Thanks for sharing. Hopefully the situation improves.

It is very rare a D1 coach is hired without a 4-year contract. You could all but guarantee that APSU coachhad 4 years.

Just got back from STL. The crowds, in terms of butts in the seats, were way higher this year than the past 5 years. Just absolutely awesome environments Friday thru Sunday. Bradley and SIU brought massive crowds. Drake, Murray, UNI, and both ISUs had strong showings. Those 7 sold out their allotments. People who aren't going are really missing on an insanely fun weekend.

I really, really hope we can bring a crowd someday that can respectably measure up to  some of those schools. It makes me sad that we only have a few dozen. Props to the fan with the white beard (don't know his name) who shows up every year in that old school Valpo shirt.

Not hearing any intel in STL.

If you know the whereabouts of Paul the next 3 days, this thread is open.
