#119 Butler travels to #105 Valparaiso. Massey calling for 28-20 win. Valpo won 47-3 last season.

It appears the Harvard receiver has had an impact. After reading box score zero idea how they 31-0 Dayton.

Bushka is back at QB , the defense is young.

Prediction: Valpo 14 - Butler 3

The FCS playoffs have 24 teams, with the top 8 teams getting a bye. Thus, a matchup with NDSU is very unlikely. But an FCS birth, regardless, would be quite an accomplishment.

I would to see the Beacos make a playoff trip to the Mecca of Div. IAA football and avoid the wood chipper.

Obviously a very big game but the team from down south has been a bit of a  Jekyll and Hyde.  Beating Dayton 31-0?  Losing to Davidson 31-0?  Weird. Not sure which team will show up.

Be wary of that other team (who shall not be named, lol) as their stats indicate their QB is also their leading rusher.  Which means he knows how to get through, argh.  :-\

This game will be decided by seven points or less. Butler is not the same team we thrashed last year.

What about them this year? Is the offense or defense better? As far as I'm concerned, there's not much difference.

Quite a lot actually.

1) they are +.500 entering the game

2) new coach with FBS experience ,  as opposed to coach on way out

3) QB is in second year starting

4) have some young LBs who can really play

5) top receiver a and pass rusher are bounce backs

They are coming of a big 31-0 win, into a rivalry game , against a team that wiped them 47-3 at home last season.

They are going to give the Beacs their best shot

usc4valpo

Beacos win big, and the dream road trip to the Fargodome is alive!

They're tough to read this year because of their schedule and Dayton. Dayton's beaten Robert Morris which is a bad scholarship program and Drake which is a bad non scholarship program this year. Butler's beaten Taylor soundly when that game has been closer in the past and a program from FL which is young and in a conference with some extreme lightweights who PFL programs typically handle pretty easily and that game was close.

So I don't know what to expect this week other than I doubt the score is 49-3 Valpo.

Hard to really predict this game based off of That Team Down South's conference performance so far. It will be nice to have home field advantage in this matchup for The Helmet.

Valpo 31 - TTDS 17

usc4valpo

Beacos 27, Butler 10, with the Valpo dog mascots in a fight to the finish in the third quarter, leading to their expulsion and a big celebration on Union Street.

JD24

I think this is a close game. 20-17 hopefully in favor of the Beacons.

vu72

If we are one of the best this year, we need an impressive win. Davidson beat them 31-0.  I like 28-7. Go Beacons!

7-0 Beacs

Big plays by Labus and Dawson to start game. TD throw Appel to Ross. Walked right down field

14-0 Beacs

Walked down field again. This one is over.

vu72

Actually 13-0 and Valpo offense has stalled. Need to keep them out of the end zone before half.

Just two OCs overthinking it. Neither team has consistently stopped the run, Both teams start 1&10 throwing

Can we take the Appel jab and run play with power blocking and punt it to Mars?

valpofb16

Mistake / Penalty filled second quarter, works up 13 against Butler. Would not be same story @Morehead or against St. Thomas

JD24

DL getting blown off the ball and do those missed kicks come back to haunt.

JD24

another kick botched. They'll get ya eventually.

Complete meltdown minus a 99 yard run Butler wins by two scores

On the thirty. Run the ball into field goal range use your time out and take the points.

Fleming wow that was an awful 3 quarters

valpotx

Dang, two missed extra points and a missed 38 yarder.  No FG is automatic, but those 2 extra points hurt, even with us blocking one of theirs.  It would have been OT, at a minimum, without blocked extra points.  Too bad...

Difficult pill to swallow and I am still struggling with it. BUT--- Hard fought and entertaining so congratulations to the victor!
