Valpo Football / Re: Game 12: @ New Mexico State

Well, sadly this is predictable.  NM is keyed on Dawson and he's not going anywhere.  1st qtr and already down by 3 TD's...  Running game isn't gonna work against NM.  Not sure who frustrates me more, Apple for not passing to his players who've been wide open or are the coaches telling him to just hand off to dawson???   Valpo can't keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results.  Thats the definition of insanity people!  Ok, Im done venting, back to the game.   :twocents:

A video scoreboard sounds nice and would offer the opportunity to earn future funds for Valpo thru advertising, sponsoring etc.  It could be a money maker for the school.  Good idea.

Well just look at us, offering our ideas, opinions on how Valpo should spend their windfall, lol.  I do like the sound of a indoor sports facility.  Just has a nice ring to it...

I'm thrilled this is working out for Valpo and of course the players are excited for the opportunity.  The money is an unexpected windfall that should be used to further football facilities  :twocents:  Maybe even a bonus for the football coaches and definitely some kind of recognition award to Jack Jarnigan for thinking outside the box.  ;)

I'm pretty sure as soon as Valpo gets the green light is when practice will commence.  I think its a great opportunity for the boys to see/feel the next level.  I watched NM play Liberty and was impressed with their QB (very creative & not afraid to run).  Liberty had a hard time predicting what NM would do next and were caught flat footed, lol.  Did I already mention NM QB, lol?  Loved his aggressive, creative style.  This would be a good opportunity for our coaches to take notes on NM and what plays they use & when they use them.   :twocents:

And so it begins, argh.  That transfer portal can be bittersweet, hope we don't lose any of our talented players.  :twocents:

Good luck to Kaplan, I liked his style, he was good at finding his targets, good on the run, liked his unpredictable moves.  I get it, he's young and talented enough not to settle for 2nd.  This means Valpo may be facing off against him next season!  Won't that be interesting to watch.   :twocents:

It will be interesting to see how things play out since its the "pandemic kids", the first group of hs players that were recruited.  Keep in mind some of those kids were recruited even though they had no senior season, thanks to covid protocols, or the coaches or the kids from 2021 just grabbed what they could.  So I expect the transfer portal to be wildly active for a few more years now because players & coaches have another chance to grab who they wanted but didn't have access to game film or the player.  I'm just saying it'd be foolish to assume nobodys gonna use the transfer portal.  I bet Fox will be watching the talent in the transfer portal just like all the other schools.  I think college recruiting is gonna be messed up for a while yet.  College players taking a 5th yr (which is great opportunity) year interferes with a hs player getting recruited.  I expect there will be some hidden gems in that transfer portal, I just don't want any of them to be Valpo's gems, lol ...

Valpo already has a good RB sitting on bench, after he had a impressive freshman year, Barret Labus and Clark.  Neither got much field time and it'd be a shame if Valpo lost them to greener pastures.

Clarke showed promise. Receivers Davis, Contreras and TE Jernegan all showed flashes. Hope to return each of them.

Agree with analysis except I wouldn't use the word "flashes".  Those boys you listed were consistent and contributed greatly to Valpo scoreboard.  So, it may come down to those listed considering if the transfer portal to a passing team is better than risking another year at Valpo knowing its been a running game for 2 years now and not likely to change.  Im crossing my fingers they all stay because those boys were game makers, they made a difference.   :twocents:

He should know "liberals" aren't open to all ideas, just look at our current cancel culture.  Shouldn't of even mentioned any political ideology at all unless he's wanting only liberal students to apply  :twocents:

Well, JD I disagree, mixing the plays up took the bullseye off Dawsons back, did you not see his TD reception that was b/c of a pass not a run?  Using a different RB every now and then can easily catch defense off guard (which did happen).  So, everything should be on the table when finding ways to free up Dawson to do his thing, run run run...  So how about we agree to disagree and call it a day  ;)

I think Dawson is better than Washington was.  Valpo mixing up the plays confused Marist b/c they expected every 1st down was to Dawson.  This actually allowed Dawson some space to run when he did get the ball & at times was wide open, lol.  It was a exciting game to watch, especially seeing the young, talented kids make some impressive plays.

Not sure what to expect against Marist.  Has anyone heard anything about Kaplan, is he out for the season?

Maybe going back and watching the different plays coaches called when Valpo was winning and compare it to the last 3 games Valpo has lost.  Noteworthy, St Thomas didn't have trouble with the wind.  Also blocking only gets you so far, seconds in fact, otherwise blocker is called for "holding".  Blockers can only push forward, can't grab, touch below waist, or the sides or its considered holding.  There are plenty of youtube videos from renowned coaches demonstrating the limitations of blocking.  That said, Fox has a young team with loads of talent in every position that will dominate this division before lone.

There's a reason teams have playbooks & signals, its to try & catch opposing team off guard with a play they aren't expecting.

Valpos predictability is their liability...  So far Dawson has carried the ball 6 times and gained 1 yard!!!

Fox is doing great, he's got alot of talented players.  I have no doubts Fox will get Valpo a division championship within a year or two.

Valpo has to stop being predictable.  If your RB can't get thru, go to your WR or TE.  Mix it up.  And train QB to scan the field if his target isn't open, chances are Valpo has a man wide open somewhere.  And work on those dang personal fouls.

Whose calling these predictable plays????    Valpo can't understand why Dayton figured out every play revolved around Dawson, multiple times in a row.  So Dayton predictably ties Dawson up, he can't get thru.
