Valpo Basketball / Re: Where in the world is/was

So Matt Lottich isn't even involved in basketball anymore?  I thought he had a non coaching role at a university.

Oru to the college world series in Omaha.  They were always baseball powers in the mid con but to make it to the World Series, wow!

Sounds like both landed and bigger programs but without real coaching assignments or responsibilities.

Where did Gore end up?

General VU Discussion / Re: Enrollment numbers

With the 30% decline in enrollment, are we the smallest D1 school?

Presbyterian College 1,200 (88mil endowment)
wollford 1,800 (378.8mil endowment)
Saint Francis University 2,000 (60mil endowment)
Davidson 2,000 (1.3 billion endowment)
Wagnor 2,100 (83 million endowment)
Holly Cross with 2950 (1.04 billion endowment) and also called the Crusaders
Valpo 3000 (225mil endowment) used to be called the crusaders
ORU 3,200 (45 mil endowment) lots of new buildings and basketball facilities in the last couple years.
Tulsa University 3,700 (1.36 billion endowment)

Branding?

We had a brand.  It was a Crusader.

Wonder if the Zags put in a home and away game with Valpo in the contract when we hired Powell JR.  Just as Valpo and Vandy.
#8
Welcome Coach Powell.

The job is more difficult than when you left.  We had a momentum but lost it.  If anyone can get it done, it's you.

Wonder what the men's soccer data was in its last years........

Has Lottich been hired anywhere else yet?

How and why doesn't Lottich or Gore make that same phone call to Lex?  Lex is one of the better leaders we have put on the floor.  He also holds a lot of the credit for bringing one of the best recruiting classes ever to valpo.  AND THAT WAS AS A SENIOR AT MARIST!!!!!!

Lex played 3 years for Lottich and Gore, how did they not make the same phone call?

I spoke to a former student who played 1 year with Lex at Boise.  Said "he was the best coach on the floor, a true point guard."

If any coach was unlucky it was Bryce in Nashville.

A little disappointed in the fan base not getting behind a good valpo basketball player who has been on the bench coaching for a long time.  He also part of national championship team and a program that has been much better than Ohio state in the last decade.

don't look to Ohio state.  Look south to the big12 and Baylor's Jared Nunes.

78crusader -

Lottich had bad luck?

Him being hired to be head coach at valpo was lucky.  Being at the right place at the right time.

What d1 program hires a 4th assistant to be the head coach?

He was lucky to be hired as head coach, he was lucky to inherit Alec peters and that senior class.  He didn't recruit those players.  I've seen the players Lottich recruited.  He was lucky to inherit a program that was coming off multiple conference championships and a couple NCAAT appearances.  Lucky is the word you're looking for.

I agree with WH on the where the money came from.

Matt was not good at his job and needed to be dismissed just like anyone else.

Matt is a Stanford guy and will have no problem landing on his feet.

Valpo Basketball / Re: What will the decision be?

ORU has invested a lot in the program.  This is not the ORU of the Mid-con days.  They keep adding wings to the Mabee Center.

ORU hired within.  We shall see.

I would be perfectly happy with having a really good coach and him leaving in 4-5 years.  As mid-majors we should expect that.  As mid-majors if your coach isn't getting poached, then your program isn't doing well.  Matt isn't getting poached.

It was a joke.  C'mon man

I was a little further up in the stands for the shot.  I was 16.

Also heard the woke administration at VU does not want to be referred to as "the shot" as it could create gun violence.

Love his dad.  He's either waiting for him to retire or take the Texas tech job.

Bryce going to the dance again.

Was talking to a buddy who coached soccer at Grand Canyon
During Bryce's first year.  He told me that Grand Canyon budget is 4x larger than the next school in the WAC and that he should go to the tourney every year (though he was a 5 seed in the WAC).

So the opposite of his time at valpo.

Being in oru country, many were afraid what oru basketball would look like after Sutton was let go, for not letting his brother go....it's safe to say that oru more than landed on its feet.  The new and young AD, I graduated high school with in small town Oklahoma, picked the right coach. Conference championships and a sweet 16 oru is trending in the right direction after parting way with a long time coach.

Don't think it was a good fit or would ever happen, but kampe would have done a better job than ML.  Let's be honest just about every coach from our old conference would have done better

Valpo has been great and basketball for a very long time.  They will be good again .  It's cyclical.  We just have the wrong guy.
#23
Valpo hasn't had an offense system in years.

Remember there was a time we dreamed of a valpo vs Murray state in the mvc tourney game.

We never that it was possible.

After 3 years it was pretty obvious on Lottich.  All the signs were there.

However, there were still some wearing glasses and couldn't see.

MLB should have to buy out Lottich's contract.  The posters who neglected to see the truth on Lottich and continued to argue need to step up with apologies.

I think we need a witch hunt....

So you're saying we are a bubble team for the NCAAT?

The light at the end of the tunnel is we are one year closer to the exit of Lottich.
