I'm totally for this...but don't be surprised if some of the, umm...stuffier...members don't go for it.
Too funny - when I saw the original picture I joked about what he must have been saying.... Now I know!!!
If I found a picture of Bryce actually taking his jacket off, this would be funnier...
http://memegenerator.net/Bryce-Drew (http://memegenerator.net/Bryce-Drew)
love it, kleiny.
so this would be better if there were one with his face more centered?
If someone wanted to make their own with the picture more centered like the ryan-kevin one, that'd be fine. I usually prefer to avoid borders which is why I made mine as is... though it is tricky with big lines
Thanks for the nod, LaPorteAveApostle. I am pleased by the clever captions for my photo. Here is one I took at the Georgia Southern game that we might try. My contribution, a version of the caption above by KL31NY, is beneath the photo:
"We are ahead by 40 points, Bryce. You can put your jacket back on."
Here is another one just for fun. What do you think Bryce was saying that apparently got Vashil and Ryan so attentive and concerned? My suggestion below:
Bryce: "There are only a few seconds left and we're down three points. Forget "Pacer," I want Buggs at the free throw line!"
Heh, I was about to say that meme would work better if the players were wearing their road uniforms until I remembered that they wore their home uniforms at KSU ;)
I presume that was because KSU's home uniforms look too much like our road uniforms?
"RYAN! For the LAST TIME, Dracula fangs during a time-out are NOT FUNNY!!!"
Bryce: What? What's wrong with you guys?
Ryan: I'll make it, mate!
Bryce: Okay, Erik, you get the ball to Ryan at the top of the key.
Bryce: Ryan, I really don't think that you should put that mouthpiece back in your mouth after dropping it on Vashil's seat.
Ryan: It's okay, mate. 5 second rule, mate.
Vashil: Oh, mon. I think I'm gonna be sick, mon. (Thinking to himself: He has no idea what I ate for lunch at the Union this afternoon, mon.) (fart noise)
Glad this picked up. Appreciate the nod, valpopal. Here's my latest contribution

Also, there are some crowd shots like the one below to give those that could not make it to the game a sense of the atmosphere and perhaps to give those at the game a chance to see themselves during this current long gap between home games.
So apostle posted a picture of the McCallums in a Valpo WBB thread (how we got there doesn't matter), and it gave me an idea.

ok. big matty c inspired me to take on the whole thing:
Sloop Bryce D
We came to the ARC
My [Horizon team mascot]s and me
Around Homer Court we used to roam
Playing all night
Put up quite a fight
But now I feel so Broekhoff,
I wanna go home.
So warm up the bus out back
Whine about hometown refs
Call the commish and complain,
(Who?) Jon LeCrone,
I wanna go home,
Not this HomerDome, yeah yeah
Oh well, I feel so Broekhoff,
I wanna go home.
Doug Anderson, he got crunk
Tryna throw down a nasty dunk.
The constable had to come, take Capo away
Got thwacked in the neck
Calliste got the tech, yeah yeah,
And then off went Broekhoff, laughed all the way home.
So hoist up the banners (fail!) [says WH]
See how McCallums fret,
Call for Assistant Chief Garber to take the refs home
We don't lose at home,
(Save Loyola alone), yeah yeah
Oh well, I feel ya, Broekhoff,
your skills have been honed.
Rob Jeter, he got the fits
Tryna run his defensive sets
Shots Rowdy took ate 'em up and left 'em forlorn
They lost at home,
They'll lose when we are at home, yeah yeah
We're the worst road trip you'll ever be on.
So hats off to Bryce D, hail!
See how Crusaders cut nets,
Call Dickie V to the ARC, get on the phone,
Bryce has the throne, he's no Homer clone, yeah yeah,
Oh well, we'll miss ya, Broekhoff,
Don't ever go home!

Not to mention that statistically, the lead was incredibly safe. If there was 1:15 left, it still would have been safe.
Smart teams dribble it out, since there's nothing to be gained by inflaming the other team when the game's already won, unless that's the only way you can maximize your own competitiveness (by pissing everyone else off). From what I hear, Derrick Rose looks for any reason to bear a grudge against a team, but I never heard anyone talk about him provoking bad feelings just so he could use the backlash to inspire him to greatness.
There must be some reason why he insists on doing this kind of thing when there's nothing to be gained by it. The only other reason I can think of is that he just loves dunking more than anything else and just can't stop himself.
If Valpo wipes his figurative ass off the court in March (by winning convincingly on the scoreboard), perhaps he will finally reflect on an opportunity to learn a hard lesson. Of course, that means Valpo (or some other team) has to do it.
I think they have embraced the villain role the fans around the league have given them. I say good for them, it's more fun beating the villain.

I sit corrected :-[
Quote from: humbleopinion on January 27, 2013, 09:47:59 PMass-wooping
i dunno. speaking of corrected, it's usually "whooping", but that must be a "correction" of "whupping", which is itself a corruption of "whipping".
All this to say, in literal terms, it would seem an "ass-whooping" would more accurately be a euphemism for flatulence.
so let's not whoop from our asses.
Quote from: LaPorteAveApostle on January 27, 2013, 10:39:54 PM"ass-whooping" would more accurately be a euphemism for flatulence.
Nope, that just doesn't make that much sense and is not really that funny. Sorry, Apostle. I just think people should be honest with you.
I never thought of ass-whooping as anything but a beat down or convincing win over another team. And I have heard that phrase many times before. Just my opinion.

I first typed "whooping," then I thought to myself, "Isn't that a type of cough?" I chose to spell phonetically.
Quote from: historyman on January 28, 2013, 12:12:46 AMI never thought of ass-whooping as anything but a beat down or convincing win over another team. And I have heard that phrase many times before. Just my opinion.
While I appreciate your honesty, I'm not going for humor here (the preponderance of polysyllabic vocabulary is the clue). of course we've
all heard that phrase many times before. i just stopped and wondered whence it came.
And I think it must be a "correction of a corruption": the original phrase was "an ass-whippin'" which
corrupted (first step) to "an ass-whuppin'", due either
--to reticence to use such an obviously harsh-sounding phrase (cf. G-D to "goshdarn" or "goldurn" etc.) OR
--to country grammar being what it is (i.e. the past tense of "to whip" = "whup") OR
--simply the inflection of a country dialect in the present tense of "whip" (cf. how in parts of the Hoosier state our first president's name is "Warshington"--things get changed around.)
So now we are at "whup". But that doesn't look like any word we know. So the
correction (the second step) of the corrupted word was to make it look like a word we do know and use. However, the pronunciation won out over the definition (after all, spoken language predates written), and so rather than change it back to "whip" it was changed to "whoop". (Kind of the equivalent of today's "putting something in Google translate, then putting it back through Google translate and see what it now says")
And here we have it. But, as we all know, "to whoop" means "to emit a loud sound; to cry out". And so, when you pair it with the slang term for the buttocks...you have an interesting phrase when you think about it.
(And curse you for making me pollute this thread of hilarity with my ruminations on philology and etymology :))

(And curse you for making me pollute this thread of hilarity with my ruminations on philology and etymology :) )
But in truth the term is really "donkey loud noise." And many would say we're making donkeys out of ourselves for making such a "loud noise" about it. ;)

Impression Management. Impression management explanations of escalation behavior focus on a decision maker's need to justify her past choices to others. The outcome of an investment is rarely free from external scrutiny, and a decision maker may escalate commitment to her original investment to avoid admitting to others that the venture was a failure or that her decision was flawed. Such admissions might cause others to doubt her competence. Furthermore, people tend to punish decision makers for inconsistency. For example, the term "flip flopper" was effectively used to negatively brand the democratic candidate John Kerry in the 2004 U.S. presidential election when he updated his views on the second Iraq War. When a decision maker switches from her originally endorsed course of action, observers may take it as a sign of weakness or lack of confidence. Thus, even when a decision maker knows that escalation is not the best option, she may choose to escalate commitment to avoid appearing inconsistent. This coming Sat. will be yet another missed opportunity to showcase our winning tradition on national TV. Before the season ever started Bryce needed to tell ml and the sports marketing technicians "Look, make as many BB banners as you want, hang them anywhere you want, blend them in the middle of a bunch of minor sports banners if you want - as long 1 each of the conf. championship and NIT banners get hung above the chairbacks where they belong."

No doubt Butler has been living a charmed life. If not for 1-year wonder Rotnei Clark, they would have probably been worse this year than last - minus Hopkins. Other than Dunham none of their returning players look like they have much potential for improvement. At the same time they are going to be playing in even a tougher league. Butler's 15 minutes could be about over.

Somehow you feel that anything Butler throws up in the crucial situations of an important game will go in. But when both Rotnei Clarke and Andrew Smith had opportunties, that I couldn't believe Marquette handed to a team like Butler who is known for making last second shots for wins, to win or tie the game, threw up the worst shots imaginable and lost the game, I couldn't believe it. I was stunned when Clarke air balled his trey and then Smith ackwardly stumbled and threw up a terrible shot. I was simply stunned that the "unmentionable team" (you guys brought them up first) ;D could play so poorly at the end of a game. Okay, Clarke looked really hot making those threes toward the end of the game. But when he air balled that three he looked awfully cold and it seemed Rotnei really choked. Smith, on the other hand has choked before in those situations.
Yes I am. Back to topic...
Stevens: Aoooowwwwwww! If only I had removed my fingers before slamming that clipboard against the scorer's table! I still can't believe Rotnei air balled that shot!

Here is Bobby's mom showing her own athletic skill by catching an errant pass in Friday night's game. His dad is next to her in the yellow jersey looking to see if I got the picture:
Bobby's parents are very nice, interesting people. His Mom played basketball at Vanderbilt and his Dad played football at Vandy. Their daughter is a freshman at Valpo also.
Not to be serious on our least serious thread, but this gets me thinking about transfers, and how it's so great that they found a better home, and yet sad that it wasn't that way from Day 1. I mean, can you imagine having had Capo for four years? LVD? Or Gueye the whole time...
Like (on a much more serious level) adoption--it only happens because something has gone very wrong somewhere, but it's great that they have a permanent home; you only wish it had been that way since Day 1. :/

and for HER record (#2 scorer when she graduated; #8 still--which, considering they've had 12 players drafted in the WNBA in the last 15 years, is really saying something)
Also on the academic honor roll in '84. Senior year dished out 88 dimes, or 3.5 a game. For a 6-3 C/PF?
Scored 34 on Tennessee in '82. Take it to the Summitt! Still the freshman scoring record (!). Also still in 3rd with 32 against Austin Peay (also blocked EIGHT shots that game), and tied for 4th with 29 against Duke. Amazing freshman, right? Put up 571 shots. Still a program record. 4th in FGM that year; 7th best point season (Almost half her points her FR year, though). 10th best rebounding year.
Got 22 boards in a game as a soph. #9 on their all-time rebounding list. THIRTEEN ASSISTS in a game as a senior. AS A FOUR. Still tied for 6th best game ever. This is a good program, btw. They won the WNIT her junior year.
(They had another really good player ... at some point they committed to her and Brackman-Capo's stats dropped precipitously--check it out! It's like the opposite of progression : ( )
To give you perspective: she made 277 FG her FR year. Or 3 more than VU's best season, Lindner's amazing SR year.
834 boards would leave her 4th on the VU men's list, just 8 out of 2nd place.
571 shots--her freshman year--just 11 fewer than BROEKHOFF AND KVW COMBINED LAST YEAR. That's 17.3 shots A GAME. like. wow.
88 assists in a year is more than Broekhoff and Coleman combined last year.
wow.
DOES SHE HAVE ANY MORE CHILDREN? (BESIDES HER DAUGHTER ALREADY HERE)
IF NOT CAN SHE?
AND CAN THEY COME TO the REAL VU TOO

Howard Moore: When you say there was a problem with the execution you don't mean my executing the players for pulling off such a bonehead move, do you?
Nevermind, UIC Chancellor Meares said I'm not allowed to execute any players.
Is that what happened? Some sort of a botched home-run play? From the play-by-play it wasn't clear what was going on. But, clearly some sort of a disaster. I only looked quickly, but somehow I thought they had the _lead_, _and_ the _ball_ with two seconds to play? And somehow managed to _commit_ a foul and lose?
Found the narrative play-by-play. Wild. (Didn't think to look in the Wright State thread!)
I first saw the official, dry brief, play-by-play with two seconds to go, UIC up one. Thought, "Whoah - can UIC win this?" At the time thinking, maybe it was CSU's ball, and they'd win on a buzzer beater. I had no idea...

UIC was playing Detroit.
Yes, a most foolish play. The problem is when you've already made a terrible play by giving up the ball with only seconds to go and up by three, you really don't want to give up the ball again by stupidly fouling your opponent WHEN YOU HAVE THE BALL!!!!
The home run play totally backfired because the inbounder threw it short and the play had been sniffed out so the ball was totally up for grabs. The UIC player committed the foul because he was too aggressive trying to jump for a ball that was totally a jump ball free for all. Terrible, terrible execution on UIC's part. If the Flames had allowed the ball to fall to the Titan player they could have stepped in front of him and guarded against a winning shot until the clock ran out. But nooooooooooo!! They had to commit a foul by flying through the air trying to catch the terrible inbounds pass. Awful, just awful!!
