Time to move ahead in the schedule by adding more wins, starting with Milwaukee on Monday.

The first of 9 consecutive wins to finish 14-2 (27-4).

Dead serious prediction...

What is perhaps most impressive to me about this team is that they seem to learn something from every game and then have applied it in future circumstances.  We need to assert our will in this game so that Milwaukee is demoralized and has no glimmer of hope that they could possibly defeat us.

the confluence of context and seeing your avatar lead me to read that as "conservative wins".

got you pegged bro ;)

27-4 would be great.  Then we'd be getting down to BIDNESS...

My prediction:  The only game we lose is at Cleveland State.  I think we will win the conference tourney.

i think this will happen as well.

We control at least a tie for conference champ. We need to come out and show we mean business, or Bidness as LAA said.

It's the Crusader's Birthday Party !  Can't lose!

and BTW, this is the sorta-official start of a slight change to the game-management schedule...    As part of the new HL agreement with ESPN3, we will be joining the other teams in conference to have consistent timing.

Game tips will be at x:02 not x:05 after the hour.
We will no longer have Lights Out for player introductions  (Not possible in the ARC to bring the lights up in a timely manner)
We will have the National Anthem BEFORE Player introductions, that will be introduced at :00 on the pre-game warm-up clock
Games will start after the starters for the home team are introduced.

So is there an official announcement coming?  I presume the reason we have partnered with ESPN3 and not kept the Horizon League broadcasts is for financial reasons.  Will it be made public?

I don't like this, but ...

I *do* like this.  The trade-off seems worth it.  At the risk of irreverence, I've always found the anthem in between player intros and opening tip to be kind of a mood killer.  Being able to turn out the lights really adds to the effect, but that's icing on the cake by comparison.

A big thank you from all the photographers.  Actually, following darkness for intros the lights usually do not reach full strength until after the first media timeout with about 15:00 left in the opening half. I sometimes wonder if that influences early game shooting of basketballs the way it influences shooting photos.

I'm not sure our friends on the Milwaukee board even know we have a game on Monday. The only thread that generates any interest over there is about the future of their arena, which seems to go on endlessly. IMO the APR tournament exclusion penalty is leaving a lot of innocent victims in its wake, not the least of whom are loyal fans of the program who are left with little to hope for.  On Monday we'll be watching a group of Milwaukee players who did nothing to cause the penalty they're being subjected to playing their hearts out like every other team, yet unlike everyone else having nothing to look forward to as the regular season winds down except cleaning out their lockers.

I'm certainly a proponent of academic accountability, but the longer I've watched this season unfold and observed the effect this is having, the more ridiculous it seems. It would be like my older brother committing a crime and me going to jail for it because, after all, we're in the same family. In fact, the more time I spend on this post the more I detest everything about NCAA compliance and control. No, I don't have a better idea, but give me and a few of my friends the same number of days, weeks and months these great thinkers took to develop the current system and I'll guarantee we'll come up with something far more equitable.

Editorial over - thanks for listening.  ;)

There is a school of thought that I'm partial to that says, "Yes, and that's UWM's fault, not the NCAA."

The only real solutions I have for the APR issues, since postseason bans don't mentally and emotionally affect the players who didn't go to class, especially if they already graduated, left school, or declared entry into the NBA draft, but do affect the guys they left behind, is to a) fire the coaching staff for not doing their job to make sure the players are going to class, and b) suspending/firing the academic compliance coordinator that failed to make sure the players were keeping up on their "contract" to attend and pass classes, based on the scholarship agreement they made with the school they attended. Banning the team from postseason play pisses off the conference because that team can't play in the tournament, and can affect seeding for the tournament, plus deters recruits from looking at the school because they might not be able to play in the postseason that first year, even though they weren't a part of the cause.

I think our defense will have something to say about this.  If that team shows up in Milwaukee, we could be in trouble.

I think we'll come out and play well in front of the home crowd.

To put your mind at ease, Milwaukee has frankly been pitiful on the road. They are averaging just 61 ppg and giving up 78 a game. And we are giving up just 57 ppg at home and scoring 74 per game. This game doesn't worry me too much.

Alec had a look at a three to tie it there with about a minute left in the half.  Couldn't get it to go.

Admittedly, when you spend minutes on the bench, you shouldn't be _too_ surprised if the other team outscores you.

(Is it too much to ask for live stats to have game minutes in the box score?)

Whomever is in charge of the TV/streaming production needs to be told to STOP SWITCHING TO THE UNDER THE BASKET CAMERA. Would have loved to see the Vashil alley-oop there, but instead we got a lob and then Vashil's midsection. Every time the ball goes down low the camera switches and misses significant action.

For one, the guy on oakland stepped out of bounds, then Walker was clearly fouled... but traveling?

Oh well. Great game.

What happened to UWM? I can't believe they won the conference tourney last year. You can't really even blame it on the APR suspension. I know Ariens redshirted, but man, recruiting has been terrible. They'll lose McWhorter next year (leading scoring, assists, rebounds) too. Maybe tonight was just a really, really off night for everyone, but absolutely everyone looked dreadful.

Really surprised at this one.  Other than the top four teams the HL seems to have a bunch of weak sisters who lack energy and intensity for the game. After the first five minutes it seemed like Milwaukee just folded their tent and went home.  Thought Jeter would get more out of his guys.

Tiby had decent numbers, but I thought Darien Walker played some very good defense on him.  Interesting move matching up Peters with one of the UWM guards and Walker on Tiby, but a very good move by our coaching staff.

Anybody have any guesses on how playing time will pan out if/when Carter gets fully healthy again?  I am guessing he will start back slowly.   Will Nickerson remain as the backup PG or has Max done enough to earn 10 minutes in order for Nickerson to play more minutes at the 2 and 3 positions?

Or does Bryce prefer the 8 man rotation over the 9 man?

What I liked best about this game, besides the fact that PantherU probably ate more hotdogs in the first half then his team had buckets, was that Valpo didn't let up nor did they play down an inferior opponent.

Been out of town on business.  Missed the game.  Disappointed and surprised at the sparse crowd.  When will KC be back?  Will 13-3 win this league?  If so, can VU get there?  It would mean a 7-1 finish.  Can we beat Oakland?  Can we beat CSU twice?  Can we repay GB?

That's all the questions I have.  Thanks!

I was lurking their boards before the game and found a post that claimed that they texted "someone in the know" about the new Milwaukee Bucks arena and that they were going to build it on the current US Cellular land, despite the new owners already completely ruling out that site. Guess there's something in the water there.

I thought the crowd was pretty decent considering it was a Monday night. I hope they are getting a decent kickback from ESPN, these week night games are tough on families.

Can we beat Oakland? Sure, everyone beats Oakland when they don't play at Oakland.
Can we beat CSU twice? Probably.
Can we repay GB? Sure.

Valpo's defense is this good. They force teams to beat them with contested three pointers. Not a lot of teams want to win games that way.

CSU, Green Bay, us and Oakland. With 2 losses at CSU and at Detroit (who always gets up for that rivalry) and wins vs the top 3, Oakland might be legit.

Fun game to watch, where I didn't have to watch every single play, since it was in hand so early on.

Skara's shot reminded me of KVW's circus shot from a few years ago.  KVW's was better, but very similar.  Vashil is just getting plain nasty on some of these alley-oops.  He flushed that one down with authority, and it happened very quickly.  His leaping ability is insane when he wants to 'fly high.'

Anyone else notice Adam Amin sitting next to Todd and Dave?

Lexus said that he broke his knee cap, a freak accident and unrelated to his earlier injury --other than the fact that it was the same knee.  It will set him back four to six weeks.

OK, I live 360 miles away from campus and I could not attend - but these guys are playing very well with a respectable 19-4 record, and they only have 2100 at the game?  You can't blame the weather.  If a discussion of a new facility warrants serious thought, then more support for these guys is required.

I live 4 miles away.  We went to the game and I was pleasantly surprised by how many people were there.  These week night games are tough for families.  I have an 8 year old and a 4 year old and we didn't make it home until 9 and we left with 4 minutes left.

I hope ESPN is kicking back some cash to make up for them having to play on these crappy weeknight games.

Wasn't at all surprised by this game. I though after a tough loss this group was going to come out and take out their frustrations. Which is exactly what happened.

We could easily win the HL tourney, hard to believe that we only lose Vashil and we get Lexus back (hopefully) as well with Hammink and Levingston plus a high recruit in Smits.

At the very worst this team should get an invite to the NIT, hoping for more but this team has already exceeded many peoples expectations.

The schedule is brutal.  Several teams will be on the road for 4-5 games straight at a time.  I'm not a big fan of adding N.Kentucky but I desperately want travel partners and play the Friday/Sunday schedule.

It's got to make a difference on the margin.  10%?  Not a lot of accumulation, but definitely a more intense snow shower than I expected, and right before the game.

Pretty sure this was a reference for Alec's first half total to tie Milwaukee's team total.

That's it.  He led them for much of the half.

Funnier quip if experienced in the moment?

Admittedly, when you spend minutes on the bench, you shouldn't be _too_ surprised if the other team outscores you.

Just 24 minutes? 14 in the first half. UMW got 20!

Quote from: talksalot on January 24, 2015, 08:42:25 PMWe will no longer have Lights Out for player introductions  (Not possible in the ARC to bring the lights up in a timely manner)

A big thank you from all the photographers.  Actually, following darkness for intros the lights usually do not reach full strength until after the first media timeout with about 15:00 left in the opening half. I sometimes wonder if that influences early game shooting of basketballs the way it influences shooting photos.

The lighting was remarkably better at the beginning of the game, which seemed to help Valpo's shooting (not so much for Milwaukee) leading to a 30-5 opening.  ::)

Not a storm per say but there was an inch of snow on the car when I left the game and I had to brush it off when I left work at 5. Conditions were slick but not hazardous.

Wondering how Tevonn is feeling today.  He had a great start to the game, but was not the same player after he got tagged in the face with the Tiby elbow.  Really surprised that replay was not looked at after he was knocked to the floor.
