Most points, first two seasons
1) Bryce, 912
2) Alec, 871

Needing 129 pts to become the first player to score 1000 in his first 2 years, Alec needs one more game than the 7 we're guaranteed to get (although since we'll go to the postseason someplace, maybe we should start projecting based on 8) at his current rate of 17.5 ppg.

...Did you know that in the D1 era VU has only had 1 player score more than 20 ppt, and that only in one season?  Don't cheat by looking it up, but just think about it for a second...

3FG%, season
4) jr Casey Schmidt 47.7%
5) Alec, 46.3%
6) soph Scott Anselm, 46.1%

OK, I cheated... won't spoil it...I do remember commenting when Bryce appeared on the scene... "He might just lead us to forget _________" and everyone laughed.

I know LAA was looking at single season numbers, but when I checked out his trivia question (I had no idea, talksalot was right and also I blame the fact that I was 5 when it happened) I saw something interesting with Alec's numbers.

3-POINT % Career (min 150 attempts)
1. Samuel Haanpää 2006-08 44.5%
2. Bryce Drew 1994-98 43.5%
Shawn Huff 2004-08 43.5%
6. Rob Cavanaugh 1990-94 42.3%
7. Alec Peters 2013-pres 42.1% (285 attempts)
8. Casey Schmidt 1992-94 41.0%
9. Mike Jones 1986-90 40.9%
10. Ryan Broekhoff 2009-13 40.8%

He's also 30 threes away from the career top 10 in 3PM made which could be hit this season, and once he has enough FTA (60 away, that'll be next season) he'll be #9 in FT%.

So really Rowdy and Alec should be ranked No. 1 and 2 as they are the only 2 on the list that shot(shoots) from further away!   ;)

It's pretty amazing to see what Vashil has done this season. Top 3 in the nation in blocked shots, one of the best defenders in the country, he has been sure handed this season, his offensive have increased as well.

I recall early in the season Ickow asked Coach Gore (I think it was Gore) who was most likely to be in the NBA, his response was Vashil. Will he be NBA ready next season? No. But the steps he has taken in his brief basketball career is pretty amazing. He still hasn't plateaued out, he is still improving and getting better day-by-day. In his 3 playing season he went from a little used guy sitting on the bench to a top-tier defender in the country. He does have NBA potential, he still needs to add more to his game but interior defense is always a plus to have.

Is he gonna be playing for the Bulls next season? No. After 3 to 4 seasons of playing basketball in Europe or elsewhere? Maybe.

I'm recalling a player in the 1970's that came from a transfer or JC and was from SB LaSalle HS.  Richardson, Williams - I can't remember the name.  One of the first years of Valpo Div I basketball.  My other guess (without looking it up) would be Harry Bell.

Was there a VU player in the late 1970's named Darrel Ashby? I thought he might have been from South Bend Adams.

It was Ashby that I was most likely remembering.  He did attend SB Adams, and played four years at Valpo.  His 1247 points are still good for 17th on our all-time scoring list, passed by 12 that played after Ashby finished his career.

After my earlier post, I had to look it up.  How soon we forget.  After Smith and before Homer's teams were competitive.

Now I know why I remember Ashby so well. When I was in grade school I went to the Valpo HS games vs North Judson and SB Adams at the regional tournament at Notre Dame in 1974 with a relative. Daryl Ashby was by far the star of the Adams Eagles who lost to Valpo High in the Saturday night championship game. I also remember attending the semi-state games at Purdue but I don't remember who Valpo High played against. When I heard Ashby was going to Valpo U it was really exciting for a kid like me.

Boy do I remember that regional.  That was something else.  The only SB Adams guy I remembered though was Glen Sudhop.

Oh yeah, Glen Sudhop. Ended up at NC or NC State, didn't he? It sure was a big man's game back then. Feed it to the post and he gets fouled or just slips it over the top of the rim.

If I remember correctly, Daryl graduated in 1978, the year before Valpo went Div 1.  He is pictured along with his team in a large photo mounted in Hilltop.

That makes sense. Ashby played for Ken Rochlitz. Life was rough for Valpo and Rochlitz. Dick Koenig was adamant that Valpo move into Div. I (University Division). It did eventually bring Homer Drew and son Bryce here.

From info on the internet with places of residence it seems that Daryl L Ashby of South Bend and Chicago, 59 years old, well known/or relative to Cheryl Childs, current address in Chicago. If you want to pay the fees you can find out more.

Except, and I'm sure I'm repeating myself, on that night, little Billy Hart owned him in the paint, at least on defense.

3FG%, season
4) jr Casey Schmidt 47.7%
5) Alec, 46.7%
6) soph Scott Anselm, 46.1%

3FG%, career
t6.  Alec, 42.3%
t6.  Rob Cavanaugh, 42.3%

(I'm sure they're not literally tied, but I can't find any of Rob's stats to break it down further.)

As an aside, Alec has 121 3s in his first 60 games.  At 2 a game, he's no threat to Bryce's record of 364.  Which is a lot of 3s.

He already has more rebounds than last year (167-164).  Roughly on pace to be #6 all-time.

And, oh yeah, points.  On pace to be #2.

But first things first.
