Washington Generals Vs. Globetrotters @ Valparaiso University

Turns out that VU plays just a mite more defense than the Globetrotters.  But, it was good fun!

Pretty decent crowd in the house, lots of kids.  A certain number of familiar faces from VU games, but lots of less familiar faces too.  Hopefully some good advertising for the VU teams.

I didn't realize they were on TV at the same time (6 PM ESPN2?).

Final score was Globetrotters 104, World All-Stars 100, I think.

But 10 or 15 of the All-Stars were from their coach monkeying with the scoreboard.  And 2 of the Globetrotters were from a nine-year old.

Horse a piece.

Since you didn't quote anything before your comment I have no idea what "Horse a piece" refers to or means. Was there a spelling error?  ??? ???

Wisconsinese for "doesn't matter", "6 of one, half dozen of another," or "machts nichts."  Oakland/Detroit hosting = a horse a piece cuz it's still in Detroit.

Thank you. I may of even heard this phrase before but to me at the time it seemed out of context and I'm sure you didn't mind as the educated person you are for providing an explanation. The other phrases, "6 of one, half dozen of another" and "machts nichts" (it doesn't matter) I'm much more familiar with.

IPFW 85-65 over South Dakota .  They are now 11-4 and continue to sit at about RPI 90.

Ball St 87-69 over Toledo  Their RPI barely moves to #229. You would think their 9-4 record would deserve better, but their SOS is near the bottom at 346.

Well, it is a half hour away.  I suppose Oakland might be part of the Greater Detroit metropolitan area.  I didn't map the distance between Calihan and Joe Louis, but I'm guessing it's significantly shorter.

Whatever.  My point remains.  UDM has just as much of an advantage, and a little bit more I would think, to say nothing of the fact that I expect Oakland to a be lot more worthy than Detroit will be.  We'll have to see of course.

As good as Oakland is....even if we escape with a road win in the O'rena we may drop in rpi because they are around 130ish.  (Just as Belmont did last night)

They're 9-6. Some bad opponents in their record, but some good ones too.  I bet our RPI is fine, increasing at least a bit, on a road win at Oakland. It's probably our best chance, right? And, they haven't played UIC or NKY yet.

Playing with the numbers a little, maybe it's not quite as dismal as some of us assumed. Most road wins seem likely to help our RPI, and some home wins.

We're currently RPI #35 or #40.  RPI Forecast says #40, Warren Nolan (probably more up to date?) says #35.  If we win out the regular season (4% chance, says RPI Forecast) RPI Forecast puts us at #25.1, #38 with even two more losses (25% chance of that particular outcome, or 45% chance we do at least that well).  So, we can certainly improve.

RPI Forecast currently has us 53%, 0.8 point, favorites at Oakland.

Turning to RPI Wizard, the computational details get a little murky, but if I give us _no_ other games, _just_ our current record, they give us #33 (at the end of the season for everybody else, I think).  If I add the Oakland road win it improves to #24. They claim a loss there would drop us to #37.  They claim that even a win against Oakland at the ARC, as the only other game of the season after today, would put us at #25.

They've got Milwaukee, Detroit, and Green Bay road wins helping us too.

Road wins that hurt us: UIC, NKY and Youngstown's a push.  But, it seems that most road wins will help us.

They've got the Milwaukee win at the ARC helping us, but the Detroit win a push. So, probably a number of wins at the ARC will hurt us.

Approximately 35 miles from OU to Joe Louis, about 40 minutes.

Aprroximately 10 miles from UDM to Joe Louis, about 15 minutes.
