Congrats all around, and to the overall team on a 5th place regular season finish, in a very competitive conference.  The improvement from the elder Bulmahn in her Senior year, has been nothing short of amazing.  In her first few seasons, honestly, I had wondered if she would ever contribute meaningful stats.  I am sure that a lot of it was personal work ethic to improve, but I have to imagine having a stellar younger sister Setter, with whom she would have tons of practice, only helped.

A very respectable finish from a well-coached team. I have a feeling volleyball is going to continue to be competitive. Great season! Go kick some butt in the conference tournament!

Another thing to keep in mind is that this team lost 4 matches early in the season by a score of 3-2, meaning that they were a few points away from being 15-5 instead of  11-9. One of those 3-2 losses was to #13 Notre Dame.  They return all but three players so should be very tough next year.

Very unfortunate finish to the season...due to COVID.  This team had a legitimate shot at getting hot and winning the tourney.  We proved that we could beat any team in the MVC.

I feel for these girls.  I was hoping they would make a deep run

VUFan2021

Sorry for the VU volleyball squad, tough luck! Coach Avery has a solid program built for the long term in the MVC. Unfortunately, COVID is not a friendly adversary. Fairfield University, the No#1 Seed in the MAAC Conference, just had to end their season due to a Tier 1 COVID positive case. It can happen to any team at any time.

I agree, it was a tough break, but next season should be exciting.

An unintended casualty is Rylee Cookerly who had a chance to get close to the top ten all time in digs for NCAA history.

valpotx

I heard that she is using her extra season, but the question will be if she and McCarthy return to Valpo for their extra seasons, or try elsewhere.

Cookerly and McCarthy are coming back to Valpo next year.

Sounds like a nice pick-up!  I can't remember many Volleyball transfers, either into our out of the Valpo program.  There was a Grad Transfer from Valpo to Illinois (Amy something?) several years back, but I can't remember any top players leaving or coming in, past her.

Good start to the conference season after an excellent preseason. This team looks solid.

These girls are so fun to watch!

Beacons beat Drake in 5, now 4-1 in the Valley and come into the week ranked #50 in Volleyball RPI.  I think Volleyball has always fit in the Valley.  Great start!!!! Keep it going!!

I can't believe there isn't more excitement on the forum.  The girls are doing amazing.  I know many can't see past basketball, but we are enjoying tremendous success in TWO womens sports right now.  I am bandwagon fan, I'll admit, but I am so enjoying the ride.  GO VALPO!!

I had noticed but having only watched their Toledo win I didn't know enough to comment.

Loyola in first at 5-0.   Valpo sits in second at 4-1 but at 13-3 overall has the best winning percentage in the Valley. It could be their year!

Both new teams to the MVC are tearing it up in Volleyball and Women's Soccer :)

I am a long time VB season ticket holder.  This team is one of the best that I've watched.  The Libero, Rylee Cookerly,  leads the MVC in career digs and has moved into second place in D-1 history.

Agree, all while being "undersized". Interesting to me is the fact that Valpo only has one assistant coach while other schools 3 plus a student assistant.  Obviously Karen is a wonderful coach.

Tough stretch away from home, as we are 3-0 at the ARC, and 1-4 on the road.  Hopefully we sweep our next 2 home games!

Probably the toughest road trip is now over. Close, by no cigar!  We also were down one starter (Gretchen Kuckkan) who appeared to be in a boot.  Hopefully she will be back soon.

Great win for the Beacons tonight!  3-0 over Missouri State, a traditional powerhouse who beat us 3-1 at their place.  We are still down a couple of starters to injury. Hopefully they will be back soon for the stretch run.  Very good crowd tonight as you might expect on a nice Friday night.

For what it's worth, the arena looks great with the new floor and new Beacon curtain as well as them finally getting the "Homer Drew" court  floor mess done correctly.  the TV work is outstanding and should be a joy to watch basketball broadcasts.

I was able to see the new court a few weeks ago and it looks so much better. Brighter and clearer and will most likely look great on TV.
