Wouldn't a UIC-YSU tie for third produce the same result?  GB 3-1 vs. the combo, while Valpo is 2-2?

There is no such 2-way tie for 3rd unless it involves Detroit, who already has 9 wins.  And Detroit split with GB while Valpo would have swept Detroit.
