Weird atmosphere at YSU.   Small HS gym....generally apathetic crowd unless YSU gets a lead and holds it for a while.

we will have to start strong.    Perry will be a wild card.

Unfortunately:
YSU   74
Valpo  69

Their attendance is the lowest in league at 1674. Should be a fun crowd.

The Beeghly Center has not been kind to Bryce. Beeghly and the O'Rena are the only barns in the league that he's yet to get a W. By my count he's only lost 5 HL road games since taking over (@WSU, @UWGB, & @YSU in 11-12, @YSU in 12-13, & @OU this year). Even in Homer's last year against a very bad (2-16 in the league) YSU team we had to battle back late just to force OT before eventually winning.

Considering this team's road woes, past troubles at Beeghly, YSU's recent hot streak, and Kendrick Perry I fear this one might get ugly. I'm taking YSU by double-figures 75-62.

Hate to get off subject and I apologize.  I didn't realize our rpi was 204.  Made me wonder what was the program's wors rpi and the programs best rpi.

Hopefully we continue to build on the progress made in the last couple games.  If we get double digit scoring from Alec and a positive contribution from KC off the bench, I think we win in a close one.

Valpo 76
YSU 73

Our best was ever last year (58). This of course, doesn't include 1924.

Our worst in the Horizon was 2008-09 when we finished 9-22... our RPI was 260. The worst recorded RPI in the MidCon was 1991-92 where we were 5-22 with an RPI of 286, but the 4-24 1989-90 and 5-22 1990-91 seasons were presumably worse... the NCAA didn't start keeping RPI archives until 1991. I think I found a random 1986 RPI listing once, but it's impossible to find RPI data for anything prior to 1991.

YSU is my least favorite place to go to watch Valpo. The gym is a dump. The fans are snarly. The refs are usually terrible. Finding the gym/parking is always tough in the cold, snowy winter (although parking has been better past 2 years). And, crazy stuff happens there. But, we will load in the car and be there tonight. Say hey if you're there. Every game we've been to has been close. Even when Bryce played we struggled there. I believe it was '98, Bryce came around a Tony V pick and the ref called a Mid-Con/HL moving pick right by the bench. We all exploded. We managed to escape 70-68 with Bryce scoring 25. But, on the positive side, the Igloo does have Mr and Mrs Penguin and a decent pep band, so they got that.

What about the year we went to the sweet 16?  We should have had a better rpi ranking than 58.

I don't see us winning at YSU with Perry still playing:

Nope, it was actually better the year before in the 96-97 season (65) than the 97-98 season (83)

Keep in mind the SOS was a lot worse in the MidCon.

For reference:

Year   W   L   RPI
1991-1992   5   22   286
1992-1993   12   16   215
1993-1994   19   8   118
1994-1995   18   8   115
1995-1996   19   10   129
1996-1997   22   6   65
1997-1998   18   8   83
1998-1999   17   8   134
1999-2000   16   12   193
2000-2001   24   8   117
2001-2002   24   7   91
2002-2003   20   10   107
2003-2004   17   12   154
2004-2005   15   16   181
2005-2006   16   12   206
2006-2007   16   15   162
2007-2008   22   14   104
2008-2009   9   22   259
2009-2010   15   17   178
2010-2011   23   12   84
2011-2012   22   12   103
2012-2013   26   8   58

If anyone has RPI data in the 80's, that would be wonderful. It doesn't exist on the internet.

We were 83rd that year.  The MidCon was atrocious and our schedule wasn't exactly littered with high ranking teams.

I think this game will be a good measure of Carter's defensive abilities. Perry is the best player in the league. If we can keep him under 20 points and 5 assists we win. If Carter can't handle Perry than we probably lose.

I think Dority guards Perry 85% of the time tonight.

Dority picked up 4th foul.  For some reason Yeo is now guarding Perry.....

Great Road Win...74-41...CLUTCH free throw shooting when we need it... and well played with all of those fouls...

ALWAYS good to get a win at the Beeg!  Very important road win and hopefully some swagger headed into the weekend.

First win there in 3 years after 2 hideous losses.  Remember that one?

B-Wood for 31 in an OT thriller.  Kendrick Perry with another clutch shot at the end to force OT.  (He's now a 7th year senior I believe : )

Great production from everyone--we got 75 bench minutes (37.5% of team minutes) and YSU only 31 (15.%%).  Bodes well for Saturday!

Big win.  I actually posted good conference road win, but Perry hit a crazy 3 with 10 seconds left.  I quickly deleted the post...
