This should be a fascinating season. We graduated 3 had 3 others who played regular minutes leave. In all we lose:
Points 67%
Rebounds 54%
3 pointers 73%
Assist, steals and blocked shots all over 70%.

We replaced this with 3 guards though 2 are 5-10 which may make them forwards. Both transfers look like good shooters. Hopefully Tecca is healthy she missed her last two years of HS plus basically 2 more years with injuries. Sims dropped off Oakland's team after playing 12 games.

The freshman apparently joined the team second semester which has to be helpful.

Maybe this is the year Johnston and Beyer earn some action.

Plus we redshirted 2 last season.

A couple of thoughts on that article and the follow up on Pitts.

Certainly COVID wreaked havoc but we were not alone as every team in the country experienced it. I find that a bit of a cop-out.

Pitts completely threw last year's leadership under the bus.

As I said previously this year should be fascinating.

Molly Shannon just entered the portal.

I don't think there's a portal for actresses just yet.

Molly Sheehan?

6-0 wings for 2023 from Fort Wayne Northrop.

I wonder if this is an "Oppland" like situation where one is the star and the other is just OK but they wanted a school who would take them both and Valpo said yes.  Not sure which is the star but am guessing it's Nevaeh who MaxPreps has ranked #7 in the state.

Always 100.

That would be a good name for the new B1G with USC & UCLA.

Congrats to her!  I felt bad for her, knowing that she enrolled early, and rarely played

Presuming that we'll see this thread all year, could someone please fix its title?

The Supreme Court took some choice away from wonen so I thought this was a protest spelling. Maybe I was wrong.

Mark Schwitzgable the longest tenured assistant coach was named head coach at D2 Walsh in Ohio. Their prior HC took the IUPUI job.

Matt et al might want to take some lessons from Mary Evans regarding scheduling.  The women have Southern Miss, UAB, Bowling Green and Western Michigan on the schedule while playing at Northwestern and Wisconsin. Not going to be her strongest team but no fear on the scheduling side.  Good for her!

Cannot compare men's vs women's pre- season schedule.  Our women have not been very good lately and the bigger schools like an almost guaranteed win so getting on their pre-season schedule is not as much of a problem.  While our men's program hasn't been great as of late, larger programs don't always jump to schedule us because we can surprise some teams and potentially beat them.

DuneHwx

Huh? Our women have beaten Power 5 teams just in the last couple of years.

vu84v2

You are both right...Valpo's women's team has beaten several Power 5 teams in recent years, but there are some really weak women's programs in the major conferences. Wisconsin was 8-21 last season. Valpo beat Illinois two seasons ago, but Illinois was 5-18.

Still, I do think that the women's program has been more effective at scheduling in recent years than the men's program.

valpotx

Our women surprisingly win their first game at Central Michigan, who we lost against at home last season.  I had figured that it would take 8-10 games to get our feet under us with the large amount of contributors that graduated, but this is hopefully a good sign that we can continue to progress.

Great win to start the season! Major kudos to Katie Beyer who had played a total of 12 minutes in her 1.5 seasons. She scored 11 with 5 rebounds in 17 minutes!

valpotx

Yeah, that was good to see, as she and Molly Sheehan had joined Valpo before their final HS season, due to COVID, and it was sad that neither did anything over the first 2 seasons.

Great win for the Beac's over Southern Miss 72-65  this afternoon...

Brown  15 Pts, 6 Rebs, 2 Assts, 1 steal
Pitts 10, 1 Reb, 3 Assts, 1 steal
Earnest 12, 8 rebs, 1 asst, 1 steal
Saunders 11, 3 assts, 1 block
VanWeelden 9, 6 rebs, 1 block  (Great First Game !)
Dunson 8, 4 Reb, 1 steal

First time EVER starting a season 2-0 where both wins were against D1 teams.

Next home game...is Wednesday AT NOON!   Eastern Illinois.  Game time was changed due to the MVC changing the Volleyball schedule to have the VB team at home on Wednesday night.

Spend your lunch hour-and-a-bit more in the ARC... EIU picked 2nd in the OVC, plays at WIU on Monday.
