There's no chance Alec will be at Vandy next season. Can we stop this speculation. It's not going to happen.

And 2 of the 4 we beat in March.

Most people don't consider teams from the Mountain West and Atlantic 10 mid-majors, so there are only 4 mid-majors ranked ahead on Valpo.

Valpo Basketball / Re: Ryan Broekhoff

If Brandon Wood was a better player than Shelvin Mack, he'd be in the NBA. Mack played real solid ball down the stretch for Utah in a starting role. He's not a fringe NBA player. He's very good. Any player better than him that wants to be in the NBA, would be in the NBA.

The reason why everyone close to the situation thought Keith would get another year is because the facts were in his favor. Keith was injured at St. Louis and that's the reason he only played 39 minutes. Thus he should have been eligible to turn his time at St. Louis into a medical redshirt. If that had happened, his time there basically would have been aborted and he'd still have another year. However, for some reason, the St. Louis medical staff refused to sign off on Keith's injury. The fact is Keith was so injured that he didn't even practice his first few months at Valpo.

Bill and Bob committed well before Bryce, however your other points are extremely well said.

Everything I've been told from the administration is that the area north of the football field is for a rec center. Want to make this clear, it would not be used as a new basketball arena.

Lottich knew very well that he may lose Skara if Vujic wasn't hired, but he has too much integrity to play that game. Other coaches would have given in and found a spot for Vu strictly to keep the player. We should be very happy to have a new coach with great moral character.

Imari Sawyer was one of 4 guys to finish ahead of Matt Lottich in the 2000 Illinois Mr. Basketball vote. While Lottich finished 5th in the vote, Dwayne Wade finished 7th. Darius Miles won Mr. Basketball and then a few months later was the third pick in the NBA draft. It was a banner year for high school basketball in Illinois.

BTW: As someone that was around the team as much as anyone the last two years, I can tell you without question that Skara was very close to Matt....So any comment from Maravilla about coaching changes...closeness to Bryce, recruited by Bryce and Roger is all  :censored: misdirection.

Each coach has a different plan for the DOBO. Both Will Phipps and Luke Simons were a combination traveling secretary/assistant to the head coach. Matt Lottich has a different plan for the DOBO. He's hired a very successful former head coach, and he's going to help with scouting and game planning. The DOBO has two main restrictions - he can't be on the road recruiting and he can't be on the court coaching during practice. Thus the schools have many options for the DOBO. Bryce and Matt have a different philosophy.

I find no fault with Skara. He's a teenager living in a foreign country. I've never been through what's been going on in his life. I wish him the best. As for the roster, a spot was left open for Keith, who is more likely going to get another year than not. Thus, there would only have been one open scholarship, now there's two. The staff is out recruiting and I'd say overall the program is in great shape.

Let's end the speculation. David is very close with Dave Maravilla and Ivan Vujic. Maravilla was very influential in Vujic going to Valpo as well as Skara. When Vujic was not hired as an assistant coach, the dominoes fell and Skara asked for his release. There's obviously more to the story but that's the focal point behind Skara leaving. The shame of it is Skara had a great relationship with Matt Lottich and was extremely excited when Matt got the job.

Wow...it had nothing to do with Chris. He's to classy. I was referring to others.

There are adults that David is close to that were hoping to get on the new VU staff, when they didn't they encouraged David to leave.

I hope he ends up at UWM. They're looking like an RPI killer next season. They need all the help they can get.

I'll say this that David is a great kid, and it's very sad to see him go. I wish him the best of luck. As Paul has implied there's a lot to this story. The coaching staff would love him to stay, of course. I think David would probably like to stay, but again there's a lot to this story. I want to make this very clear, David has done nothing wrong and is a great kid, but he's caught up in some b.s. Yes Paul it will be interesting to see how this develops.

It was no secret that Bryce had offered positions to both Roger and Matt. Thus, Mark asking Bryce for a recommendation would have been unlikely. The fact that BD offered Roger and Matt jobs in Nashville would be all the recommendations Mark would need.

Valpo Basketball / Re: Why Vandy?
April 18, 2016, 10:52:03 PM
I think this maybe incorrect. Mance has been hired (he's a close friend of Roger Powell). However, I believe Mance will have a different title, while Luke Simons with be the director of basketball operations. The only other possibility is Simons will have a different title but will be handling the duties similar to what he did at Valpo. The job titles vary from school to school.

Luke Simons did a superb job. I believe the position is now open again as he will serve the same capacity at Vandy.
#72
Sherry left nearly a year ago, while Will Phipps left last summer.

I just want to remind everyone that Bryce had opportunities to leave on numerous occasions but stayed at Valpo. He finally came to a situation that in his mind was in the best interest of his family and his assistant coaches. Has anyone ever spoken to anyone that has an unkind word to say about Bryce? I doubt it. This decision was very emotional for him, and that's because of his love for the community and the university. I'll root like heck for Vandy and not because my friend is the coach, but because of everything he did for the school I love.

Not a fear comparison, both Pearl and Ryan were long-time Big Ten assistant coaches prior to becoming head coaches - Pearl at Iowa and Ryan at Wisconsin.

I have no knowledge on what Alec will do next year, but there's not a school in the country where he'd only average 8 or 9 points a game. That's just silly. This kid is 3 times the player of Brandon Wood. He averaged nearly 19 a game this year for the team that finished with the 31st best RPI in the country.
