Man, this is so great--thanks for doing this.  It helps a lot to see it all laid out like that.

Plus it is interesting to see so many scholarships coming available soon...I wonder how that will play out--either a huge class or a smaller one with trump cards being held on to...

Can an admin sticky the grid at the top just below the schedule for easy access?

FYI, it was borrowed from the Butler message board which probably borrowed it from somewhere else.

wait...you mean the butler board is keeping up with our own players better than we?

Probably he means the idea, or the format.

It feels like we should have * on Dority and/or Coleman too, until somebody definitively figures out their eligibility.

And, perhaps, that there should be a legend explaining what the *'s mean!

Regardless of NCAA status for Coleman and Dority, they are taking up a scholarship so that is why there is no *.  I did it that way with Bobby and Vashil

I like the idea of the legend and I'll work on that.  I prob need to use a couple different ones as they mean different things.

And yes, we took the idea from the Butler board.  Ours is a much more simplified one that works for this particular board's set up and allows admins as well as myself to edit.

I also think it would be great to sticky post the entry with the schedule...that is kinda why I made the thread to bump it back up and remind people its there.

I think a '*' would be good to denote 'eligibility pending' for at least the first year of the scholarship offer, or if the recruit might be a transfer that we can't play until 2nd semester.

Its not a eligibility chart...its a scholarship one, but we can do it if that is what everyone wants

Right - I was conflating the two.  A scholarship chart makes sense.  Perhaps notes about eligibility could be added?  If it wouldn't clutter things too much.

Im gonna figure out a way to do it that will look good.  The legend of * like symbols will help, I think.  The players are all hyperlinked to their VU roster page (or if there isnt one to an article with as much info as possible) to give more deep info.  Ideally, we'd like more on it but had to streamline it to make it work.

I hope I'm not stepping on Matt's toes, but after my last effort at helping the blog was indifferently received, I tried to think of a way to be more helpful.

This is my first attempt at an Eligibility chart...this is assuming both Dority and Coleman are more-or-less-immediately eligible.

Please do give feedback.  I'd have attached the file itself if it would let me.  Thanks.

It doesn't have to be editable by everyone, I was just giving the blog as an option.  If you want to edit it in Excel and upload a screen capture of it, or whatever, that certainly seems reasonable.  We would also be able to link directly to the image here.

I think it would be easiest to upload it to the blog, host it there then link to it here.  Why don't you send it to MattCarter and let him put it in the original blog post, then we can update the first post in this thread to put it there.

I think I will sit on it a little while longer, if 'tis OK with you, O4 and Matt, since there's that one open slot sitting there that I have a feeling Bryce will fill.  After all, he'll still have four other slots open the year after even with the two commits already coming in.

If it seems he will keep it in his hip pocket for next year, then I'll send it to Matt.

What about a tentative "depth chart", a la football, for "1"s through "5"s crossed against the eligibility chart?  Too esoteric or helpful?

(ie roughly
1
E Buggs
L Dority
2
Will Bogan
etc.

Can you produce that on Google Docs?  Would make sharing with Matt pretty easy.

I'd prefer to only have one blog post with the chart, so if you both don't mind, I will put your's on the same post as Matt's.

Less transfers. Sometimes it doesn't "taste" well when guys we know for two years get "forced" out. It is a lesson on working towards a goal and the consequences of not really working.

Just a slight tweek--Rossi's color for 2012-13 should be brown (junior) since he has been granted eligibility by the NCAA for that season.

Is Alex Rossi eligible to play for Valpo next season? When did the NCAA grant him eligibility? I know he applied for some form of hardship eligibility based on medical issues in his family, but I didn't know his petition was successful. I hope it is true, that he stays healthy, and contributes to the next couple season's success at Valpo!

Maybe I'm confused myself but doesn't Rossi get to play in December 2012 even if his hardship waiver is not granted? I may have him confused with another recruit.

Think you are getting Rossi confused with Dority (from S. Florida). Rossi played 1 year (3 games) at Cal and redshirted due to an injury one year. Rossi is hoping to be able to play right away because of hardship and have 3 years of eligibility.

I realize the need for a scholarship chart is to keep track of the numbers and when scholarships become available. Maybe as a footnote walk-ons should be included with an asterick or something. With their NBA or famous fathers paying their way some walk-ons are just as valuable as some scholarship players.

My bet is that he may be a "grayshirt", meaning he'll redshirt but pay his own way, then when there's a scholly available (i.e. next year when we don't have any commits) he'd get one.

then i'll put him in?

Yes it is his last year.  Don't think he ever redshirted.  He is listed on the roster for 2011-2012, his freshman year.

I have always found it hard to understand how VF used up a year of eligibility in a year he was held out awaiting the NCAA to declare him eligible. The only thing I can think of is the NCAA declared him to be a sophomore in terms of eligibility from the get-go (like they did KVW). And, if the season had already started by the time the decision was made, valpo may have been given the option of holding him out for the rest of that first season and start his 3 years of eligibility the following year. Just a guess.

I still was unable to open these links.  I sent a PM to LAA to see if he'd like me to take over the updating of these files.

I've noticed that LAA has been missing from the forum, and for a long time had not signed in since his last post on 30 March.  I now see that he was on the forum in early June.  I hope all is well with him.  I seem to recall that they were expecting another child this past spring.

It's unfortunate LAA has left. He was a knowledgeable poster.

That said I have tried my best to recreate the scholarship grids. Instead of having 2 different books, why not one with 2 sheets in it. So I made the Valpo Scholarship Grid. There's a men's tab and a women's tab. For the women's tab there's 2 (Annemarie Hamlet, and Haylee Thompson) who are listed as Sr./Jr.  I took that to mean a redshirt Junior, but I could be wrong. If I am please let me know.

Sorry to read this as well.  I know that they were expecting their second child - hopefully he is spending more quality time with his family.  He can come back to this family at any time.

Thanks.  I like looking at these from time to time.  I think the number of scholarships for women is actually 15, which means that we are playing two short this year, with 5 spots available next year.

You are right and I fixed that. I should have known the numbers would be different for men and women.

It's kind of fun looking at 2017-2018 for the guys and seeing a potential starting line up of
PG- Lexus
SG- Tevonn
SF- Skara
PF- Soph. Recruit or Juco Transfer
C- Smits

I am also sorry to hear this. Everyone's situation is different and I do wish him the best. I was told that LAA was once studying to be a priest.

He'll just resurface as another handle, like he has before...
