Some observations:  Winning on the road against anyone is tough, but Cleveland State has only Green Bay on the road among the other contenders and it will be their fourth game in 8 days thanks to a non-con against Western Carolina.  If they can win at Detroit, they be playing for a high seed against us there to end the regular season.  Green Bay has the game here as its only road game against a contender although they have both Cleveland State and Oakland at home.  Oakland may have the toughest schedule (what's new!) with four road games in the next 10 days (one of them here) and ends the season at Green Bay.  Toughest home game is Detroit so if they win the next four they're probably in good shape for a high seed.  Valpo has games remaining against each of the other contenders but Oakland and Green Bay are at the ARC so holding serve at home is critical -- and it has to start Wednesday with Detroit who we play there in three weeks.

Seeds 3 and 4 get a bye and seeds 1 and 3 get the double bye and it will be surprising if those positions are determined before the last week of the season and perhaps only then by invoking some tie breaker rules.  It should be fun but nerve wracking!  And those free throws everyone keeps talking about.........

Valpo Basketball / conference realignment
December 14, 2012, 10:19:29 AM
Chicago Tribune reports today that Butler and Xavier will join the 7 Catholic schools from the Big East to form a new conference.  Creighton, Dayton, Saint Louis and Virginia Commonwealth are other candidates for what could be a 10- or 12-team conference.  Lots of money issues to be worked out apparently, but clearly there is a likely breakup of the Big East into football-driven and basketball-driven groups.  Will be interesting to see where the A-10 goes, especially if Dayton and/or St. Louis leave, and it would seem that the St. Louis market would be particularly attractive to the new conference as well as give another geographic rival for Butler, DePaul and Marquette.  Dayton-Xavier also makes an attractive pairing.  Does the mention of Creighton mean it may be looking to "step up" to a new conference?
