Does anyone else feel as much satisfaction as I do, in that LSU's winner against Maryland, was most likely a travel?  That foul/no call committed on Keith Carter, which didn't allow us an opportunity to tie, feels a little bit better today.

So who was the fan that held up the "GRITTY" sign?  I loved that!  If the team doesn't play that way they get blown out in the second half instead of battling back to give Golder the chance to heave one in at the buzzer.

That was me. I think every good team needs to have an identity or rallying call to call their own. After listening to the post game interview from PNW and hearing the word Grit/Gritty I just wanted to help bring it out like Matt was doing. As a fan I can just sit and do nothing or I can cheer the best I can. I'm trying to do the best I can.

They should sell Gritty or Let's get gritty merchandise. Make it an identity for the team and the fanbase. For a coach "gritty " means coaching to the very end and leaving no stone unturned tactically  within the rules. For a player "gritty" means grinding and constantly battling on offense defense and rebounding no matter the score. For a fan "gritty" means showing up cheering loudly and proudly and never giving up. Just as the team shouldn't quit no matter the situation neither should we. Tonight was a lesson for coach player and fan alike. When you do things right and don't quit good things happen and you can overcome seemingly insurmountable circumstances. And some say sports can't teach good life lessons.

This would also help ingratiate us to the region at large. There's a certain toughness or grittiness that is required to make it here and having a team that embodies that would make the team more accessible and identifiable to the  region.

At the moment the unread posts button doesn't seem to be working for me at all. Before it would skip some of the older unread posts but within the last week it isn't bringing up any posts. Thanks for looking into it.

A conference's very interesting attempt at getting higher seedings and more teams into the NCAAT:

Next season, C-USA's men's basketball schedule will look nothing like that of any other Division I conference. Instead of releasing a hard-set regular season conference schedule, C-USA will seed its teams after the opening 14 games of the conference slate. The conference will then face its best teams off against one another over the next four games, with the end goal of placing multiple teams in the NCAA tournament and securing higher seeds for those teams. It's the old "iron sharpens iron" adage, basically, with some added strength-of-schedule boost built in.

"We're going to play 13 games and your travel partner twice, which would be Western Kentucky for us," said D'Antoni. "Then they are going to seed the schools. If you finish in the top five, No. 1 through No. 5 will play each other for the next four games to get 18 games.

"Like, if you're No. 1 you will play No. 4. And you'll play, I think, No. 4 and No. 3 at home and then travel to No. 2. ... There are four games in that five-team slot. No. 1 will play No. 5 and No. 4, I think. And No. 2 and No. 3 will come to No. 1.

"Then, if you're No. 2 you will play No. 4. It just reverses all the way down until you get everybody in that top group playing each other once. That will give you 18 games."

By having its best teams essentially play a mini-tournament before the conference tournament, it is identifying and doing away with games that conferences schedule based on meaningless East-West or North-South divisions; in their place will be a system that emphasizes important, head-to-head matches between its best teams. Teams won't have to stake their postseason cases—or, anyway, their RPIs—on their sole mid-season encounter with the one other good team in their conference. Instead, they can look forward to three-to-four games against those teams by the time the conference tournament ends.

I have not taken specific note, but I  think nearly all schools put the students behind one of the hoops.  You see them waving and yelling at the FT shooters that way. Duke would be the only exception I have seen.

I'm pretty sure at Illinois, and also I think at Cal-Berkeley, the students get something like an entire sideline.

Valparaiso University basketball player Micah Bradford was arrested Saturday night on charges including possession of marijuana.

Bradford, of Bourbonnais, Illinois, and Nailah Bush, of Chicago, both 19, were taken into custody after a 9:12 p.m. call to an apartment in the 200 block of Sturdy Road in Valparaiso.

They face felony counts of obstruction of justice and maintaining a common nuisance, and a misdemeanor drug count, according to Valparaiso police.
