A group of VU alumns might make the three hour drive to Macon to see the game against Mercer. However one of our associates says he'll only make the trip if VU is undefeated. Bye,bye.

North Dakota! That's right about the time I'll be leaving but I might try to make that one.

According to the UND website, it will be Military Appreciation Day in Grand Forks when Crusader football takes on UND football on Aug. 29, 2013, Thursday. This is the school that is in the Big Sky conference, not the Summit League. The were formally known as the Fighting Sioux but due to pressure from the NCAA, which included the threat of forfeiture of NCAA championships the school begrudgingly discontinued the use of the Fighting Sioux as their mascot and nickname.

State law prohibits the university from adopting a new team name until 2015.[2]

The Fighting No Names will unfortunately blow out the Crusader "no games" in another mismatched football contest which will resemble Custer and his men at Little Big Horn more than a real game.

Let's look on the bright side:

We're not playing national champion North Dakota State and...

We're playing indoors in the beautiful Alerus Center in front of 13000 fans

Opening with North Dakota will be a big challenge! They were only 5-6 last year but still a tough task.  After that I see three winnable games in a row and the tougher PFL teams at the end of the schedule which I like! I see the coaches have posted comments on facebook and twitter about the need for more consistency and focus.  These are the same comments as last year from the coaches.  Enough talk about needing to improve in these areas.  This is the fourth year under the current coaching staff and its time to get it done. Consistency and focus should have been taken care of in year one. I think we are improving slowly but I hope this year we take a giant step forward. GO VALPO!!!
