Title: 2018 Womens Tennis Thread
Post by: VUGrad1314 on August 15, 2018, 05:33:37 PM
Valpo just released its womens tennis schedule. I had no idea that their schedule pretty much spans the whole school year. Also interesting that VU will play 3 HL schools this year IUPUUI UIC and Milwaukee. Here's the link to their schedule:

I read that we have 3 of our players out due to injury-including our top player
How do 3 girls get sidelined ?

Ask the MBB and WBB teams.

Yes but they only have 7 players so they are starting matches short 2 singles and 1 doubles. Their top recruit bolted at semester to further hurt. Maybe Katherine Carlson plays tennis...

Please don't go back to our previous coach who I believe is still around at the University unless the coach leaves immediately and then just for this spring. Her record is amazingly bad.

This whole thing must have come up out of the blue.  Tammy was seen watching a California recruit play a match.  I hope she wouldn't have spent the Universities money on a trip like that if she knew that they were leaving town.

I would assume that she will finish out this season, and then move to wherever Bucknell is located.  Maybe they will have a Women's Tennis opening soon.

I think you are right TX. He'll commute to PA, coach and start setting up a new residence. She'll coach, stay with their kids until the end of the school year, arrange the home sale,  and then move the family to join Dave in the summer.

Sounds about right.  He is down from the website but she remains.

Last match for her today. The record doesn't necessarily show it but we are in a much much better place than before she arrived. This year our MVC champion missed the entire spring season injured plus our top recruit left at semester. We have three good recruits signed for next year.

There remains an opening for a coach here. There is a need to add 1 or 2 additional players as we are down to 6 players as I believe our MVC Fall Champion has transferred.

Man!  You're right. I hope we see a [really good] new coach on board darned quick.

I believe that Valpo can be a niche member of the MVC. Yes, MBB is the biggie and we have to be very good there, but we could also easily allocate less than major resources to some lesser sports that could get us conference championships. WT is one. I also think soccer is another.

Don't get me wrong. We can be also a factor in sports like VB, Softball and Baseball, but with Golf (M&W) and Tennis (M&W) we could be a MVC player.

Where did you hear that Jelena transferred?  I know that she was injured in the Spring.

Twitter page...they just published the roster and she is not on it.  Big, big loss.

It's like thinking you scored an Ace but suddenly the umpire rules a foot fault and you lose the point, set and match all in one play.

There's nothing on Vujanic's twitter page regarding allegiance to a school so maybe she's not competing for a school this season?

Actually it says U of L with a tennis ball so I assumed it was Louisville.

Huge loss.  That is unfortunate.

It really isn't a surprise given what is happening in college athletics in general.  She was the Valley individual champ as a sophomore so nothing more to prove at our level.  Kinda like one of our basketball players being named first team Missouri Valley and then looking to move up, or one of our players not winning any accolades and then thinking they can move up!   ???

Very pleased to see this. This appears to be an excellent choice, plus Bob's daughter Meg was an exemplary student/athlete who I personally know is a terrific individual and could be great in assisting him, informally or formally.

So happy to see Bob as the new coach. He's a great guy, has an in with the area and obviously coached one exemplary player in his daughter.

You're right. I don't think that was there when I looked the other day but I could be wrong.

This seems like a great hire, locally connected. I liked that he will look at Juco's. This year we need some upper class help.

Wasn't he the Munster coach? That's a home run hire if I have the right guy in mind. Munster was a terrific program under him.

Yes, in 2009 he left Munster and then last year became head women's tennis coach at Valpo.
